Why am I ashamed that I had to have WLS?
ElyQuint replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me secrecy breeds shame. I have to pay close attention to anything I am hiding, especially if its edible. I confront my shame with honesty and exposure. If i kept my surgery a secret it would mean i felt i was making a bad decision or didnt deserve this chance and others would be able to poke holes in my deservingness. Its MY judgment I fear, not theirs. Im afraid they will discover that i am not worthy of this amazing tool. Confront the shame by refusing to protect it with secrecy. -

Insurance requires 12 week preparation program
ElyQuint replied to Miss Mac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had to do 6 months for my insurance but every moment was like torture. It went by slowly but it did go by. I used it as a lesson in patience. This whole project seems to be a lesson in patience. -
How to work around not telling everyone about VSG?!
ElyQuint replied to jessicaanders29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tell everyone, everything. Secrecy and shame are binge triggers for me so i decided to make my journey public. So far it has paid off. My support system is huge and i can avoid making excuses. I could never keep this a secret. Good luck all! -
I could have written every word of your post. Just started purees yesterday.

Hi. I am 3 weeks post op and had lots of struggle with my pre-op diet. The surgery will initially control your eating habits. I couldn't graze, binge or compulsive eat today no matter how hard i tried. That said, recovery from the surgery was hard enough on my body. Im glad i didnt have to battle, caffiene, wine and soda withdrawal at the same time.

Today I moved into mushy foods and am totally thrilled. I had a third of a cup of soup and a quarter cup of cottage cheese. I think I followed the cheese to quickly with a low-sugar ice pop. Now I have some cramping which is new. Is that my sign?

I feel for you. My boyfriend has made more home made pies than i have produced bowel movements since surgery! Last night while baking an incredible smelling peach pie he asked me to pay the pizza guy when he arrived! I finally put my foot down and said no. Ive had nothing but shakes for five freakin weeks! -
