Slower than molasses, but...
lifer replied to fezik23's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery right before my 60th birthday. Ten pounds a month is perfect. I think we are much better off losing it at this rate. In my opinion, it really helps let your skin keep up with the loss. I don't have hardly any excess skin;). What I said to myself before surgery: "I can't do anything about getting old but I CAN do something about being old and fat ! " Best of luck to you all! -
As long as you follow the rules, you should not throw up. The only time I came close was when I took the nausea medicine. Not gonna lie, the first three weeks suck but it's worth it.

Stool softeners are the only way to go. I still use them occasionally , one year out.

lifer replied to Vixynne's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Dr Streeter did my sleeve. He and his staff were great! My roommate was a nightmare, BUT I've lost 100 pounds! Last summer sucked but this summer has been amazing so far!! Going to the beach all the time, lobster salad and I even had my first drink since surgery. ( a lite Cosmo )! Life is good -

My one year was on Wednesday. I've lost 88 pounds, which us exactly what all the info says I could expect to lose:). So happy with my decision. Not bad for a 60 year old!!!! -

3 weeks out and cant get protein in
lifer replied to Kelsnikol's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Water is your first concern right now. I could not stomach the protein, no matter what I bought or mixed it with. At four weeks I was approved for all foods. Went back to Protein Bars and they are my lifesavers. Was advised to stay away from the really nutty ones at first. The Premier Protein bars are my faves. -
10 days Post-Op & Feeling Down
lifer replied to the-Russ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything you described is normal. In six weeks you will feel like yourself again and you will love it. Enjoy the fact that you can get all your water in- that's your job now . -
I think this is a great option for you. The ONLY thing I worry about is that fact that you are so young and will need to say goodbye to beer and other bubbly stuff for a long time, if not forever. Other than that, this is a great tool to "reset" your life and relationship with food. I know I could not have done it on my own and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Dehydration? Help!
lifer replied to GlutenFreeSingleMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A nurse at my bariatric office told me to take a nice tall glass of ice water and a spoon and take a spoonful every five minutes. That was my job for the day and it worked! -
I've started to have hot flashes again! True story:(

Three weeks out? Soup or fish. Be careful not to rush things. You'll be happier with yourself in the long run. Your stomach is still healing, go easy on it. Also, congrats to your kids for their good grades!!

pre-op in massachusetts. looking for a buddy

How did the support meeting go? -
I'm 3 months out and will be 60 in November. I feel great and my joints feel even greater. The only thing I will say is that I noticed that my recovery took a week or two longer than younger patients. That would stand to reason, I guess. I say go for it, you won't regret it.
