having been my mother's support when my father died when i was 15, i can say that its a lot to lay on her shoulders. as much as teens can seem all grown up... emotionally they arent really adults and can feel burdened by having to be a big emotional support for a parent. i would strongly suggest you get your main support elsewhere... from adults. and make it clear that she will not be required to physically care for you after surgery. this can cause teens to be very uncomfortable. they already have a lot of issues regarding physical bodies and caring for a sick or recovering parent can be too much for some. assume what she is actually telling you is that she is overwhelmed by the thought of your surgery and your need to be cared for afterwards.

treat your anxiety. you dont need to live in fear. there is a great blog i love called megsanity. google it. you wont be successful with this surgery if you dont deal with your anxiety anyway. so you might as well start confronting it now. there is lots you can do in addition to medication. you are not hopeless or helpless, help is available, you need to be open to it though. its your choice how you want ti proceed. but dont try to push through with this surgery without addressing your anxiety. it will bite you in the ass. -

you should speak with your surgeon about what his/her complication rate is. each doctor is different, each facility is different, each patient has different risks based on his/her medical status at the time of surgery. you should speak directly and frankly with your doctor and only sign the papers if you feel like the risks of surgery are less than the risks of remaining obese. do not rely on what you read here to make your decision, rely on what your doctor tells you. -
i dont think you know a single thing about mental illness! stop trying to shame this woman. she came her looking for help and support and you are treating her like she is a horrible human being! GOODNESS i am glad my thoughts are private, i hate to think how you would judge me! i am entitled to WHATEVER my thoughts might be. they are mine and no one else has the right to judge them. if i act on my thoughts, that is a different story. you cannot shame people into changing. anyone on this site should intimately know that shaming someone is never a substitute for actual support. you are acting no differently than you are accusing her of acting... judgmental and unkind. (and ignorant of what she is actually struggling with)

bag of chemicals..., love that! and its very true too! as someone who suffered from PMDD (pre menstrual dysphoric disorder), PPD and now perimenopausal symptoms... i wholeheartedly agree. our thoughts and feelings are, to a great extent determined by our hormones and neurotransmitters. upsetting the balance can greatly affect us. it has nothing to do with our morals, religious leanings, manners, social graces or anything that we can consciously choose. we are creatures of chemicals, and despite the fact that its distasteful to admit it, we cant control that, its a simple fact.

holy _____ everyone! she came here looking for help and support, not get ripped to shreds! lighten up everyone! she isnt asking for support for eating a pizza while drinking a 6 pack... she knows she's having issues... help her out! dont give her shit... a lot of you are jumping down her shit for not being kind, how about you model some of that kindness for her?

fat cells store estrogen. when you burn the fat, the estrogen is released into your bloodstream. estrogen is what makes us women bitches from hell if we have too much. its likely hormonal. doesnt make it easier, but at least it means you arent going crazy.

Why can only 50-70% of excess weight be lost?
moonlitestarbrite replied to BarnGirlWK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
they arent 100% sure how the surgery works exactly. part of to is the restriction, part of it seems to be some sort of metabolic reset that tells your body to start burning fat like mad. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/24670636/ -

moonlitestarbrite replied to BarnGirlWK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
plenty of people lose 100% of their EW. but those stats refer to long term net loss. everyone is different. so they average it all out. people with BP loose more faster, but it ends up (on average) being about the same long term loss as the sleeve. its all about what is average. there are always people who lose more or less. -
measure your food first, dont eat more than 1/2 cup at a time. eat slowly. chew well. space out your bites. dont drink with food. eat only things you can tolerate. rich foods at 9 weeks post op isnt a good idea. your stomach is still healing.

Please help I can still eat a horse
moonlitestarbrite replied to Tobytoes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
you can request a dye test to see how big your sleeve is. speak to your doctor about it. any doctor can order it. you need to be sure to measure your food before eating and not eat more than what you measure. you need to time your bites, chew slowly and well, take small bites. SLOW DOWN. breathe. pay full attention to what you are eating. look for a therapist who specializes in eating disorders. good luck! -
Ok this freaking constipation!
moonlitestarbrite replied to iamblessed1225's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
laxatives every day can cause serious issues. better to manage with food. try food high in fiber.. oatmeal, sweet potatoes, dried fruit, lentils, hummus, broccoli, carrots, chia seeds. i take a food based fiber supplement called konjac root. fiber supplements like benefiber can actually make some people worse, because they draw Water out into the bowel. Probiotics also help, and make sure you are getting in all your water. -
i dont use any excuses. if someone comments on what i am eating, i say i am fine and ask how their meal is. or i say, "this is all i want." its not anyone's business. i usually take the "thanks for your concern, how are you?" route. people love to talk about themselves, just redirect them. nod, smile, shrug, or chuckle and then ask them about themselves. works every time.
