Increased calories by 600-700 and impressive weight loss as a result

because once you go below a certain number of calories, your body goes into starvation mode and hangs on to every single pound. adding in more calories makes your starvation mode switch off. -
omg my stomach tried to kill me last night!

my surgery was 3 weeks ago. i have not been doing great. i have a lot of swelling still which is making my stomach not empty. i am doing a bit better every day, but can only tolerate 1-2 ounces of soft food and 2-3 ounces of water at a time. otherwise everything comes up. i think this will eventually pass as my stomach starts working again, but last night was scary! -

see tomorrow what the surgeon thinks... meds to help the stomach squeeze and empty were the NPs recommendation, but the surgeon wants to see the offical reading of the xray first. -

i had my procedure on july 12th. the doc found lots of scar tissue. my spleen, pancreas, stomach were all stuck together. he cleaned it all up ( extra 1/2 hour in surgery) and told me to expect extra recovery time. here i am 11 days later and am having trouble tolerating almost everything i put in my mouth and yesterday had two episodes of regurging everything to the point i felt dehydrated cause nothing would stay down. finally fell asleep and woke to just mouthfuls of acid..... so horrible. anyone else have severe GERD after surgery? anything help? my first dye contrast said the transit from stomach to intestines was very swollen. and my stomach was emptying very slowly. but that was 10 day ago. waiting to hear back from the NP after she consults with the doc. but, wtf? was hoping for much quicker recovery time. didnt expect to be laying in bed sucking ice this far after surgery. -

yup. double strength. surgeon called tonight. he can see a place on my xray where my stomach is "folded over" and not "squeezing." he saw it on my leak test. said its better now, but still there. will call me in the morning with recommendations after he gets the official report from the radiologist. -

right? "gee i wish i could go back to eating enough food so that it will kill me, please." um, no. -
dumping means the food moves from the stomach to the intestines too quickly. it can happen without the sleeve. but it doesnt have to be junk food. any food, ep any food with sugar or fat, can cause dumping syndrome. i have a friend who has this naturally and she can get sick on any food if eaten too fast or in too big quanities.

how do you know i havent lost a child? you know nothing about me. seriously, you are reading a lot into this. the OP felt this was supportive and felt like people were crowding her about god. maybe you, dear, should take a seat. since i in no way was personal (except the OP) to anyone here and you are attacking me directly. you can take back your projection now.... who's doing the hijacking?

my naturopath is a curvy, big boobed, vital woman whom i love. she smiles, is warm and inviting and sparkles with life. i want to parktake of what she is offering. she says, " i eat like this" and i want to join her. my nut looks like she is starving herself. she seems unhappy and never smiles. she comes across as severe and rigid. never welcomes my questions, acts like any other points of view about nutrition are illegal. its not about her being skinny or too skinny, its about how she treats me.

watch out for the sodium in canned products. it can be ver very high. also, a lot of the additives in canned/processed foods can be really hard on the stomach and GI tract. i would say avaoid them as much as possible. ep canned soups.

better to reward yourself with a pedicure, massage or a cute new dress... rewarding yourself with food is like a sober person rewarding themselves with a drink!

i was told no carbonation. but who knows? one of the million times i was trying to wean my H off of his coke addiction, we got bottles of flavored syrup, and made italian sodas. they do come sugar free, though i dont do artifical sweeteners. you can order syrups at www.monin.com . it didnt break my H's addiction, but i loved it and far less sugar than soda pop. when i was in the hospital, i dreamed of food. not since then though.

pureed foods make me gag. its a texture thing. except for Soup. so i figure, i'm gonna make a lot of pureed soups! one thing i do love is roasted and grilled veggies. figure they can be made into a dip type thing with olive oil. my sheet says soft fish, so i'm gonna try that, cause we do like fish around here! figure i'll cook it in little parchment packets and mash mine a bit with a fork. refried Beans come to mind too. i'll have to make mine myself though, since gas is an issue for me. refried beans, little diced veggies on top with greek yogurt and tiny bit o cheese. i like cottage cheese all different ways, sweet, savory... blame my mom, beng gluten free in the 60-70s was not easy! when i was nursing, i made a supercharged rice pudding with no added sugar. it was mochi (short grain) brown rice, milk and eggs. you can make this with any kind of milk beverage you like. i wonder if that would work, though i know some people dont eat carbs... my nut sheets say 1-3 whole grain products a day.

this very interesting to me, cause i poached up some dark meat before surgery... made broth with it, so it was wayyyyyyyyy cooked soft. the way i would cook it for my kids when they were first eating solids... i had maybe 5 bites, well chewed. thought it was gonna kill me last night. needed two painkillers to deal. it was the worst. so, holding off on chix for a while here.... (whew glad i read this)

sometimes people need a lot of space with religion after something really devastating happens. dont shove the god talk down her throat. give her space! it can take lots and lots of time to sort out your feelings about god and life after losing a child. let her find her own way, please!

i am 8 days post op. i am still on liquids. but i miss food and am eperiencing hunger. my concern is about food preperation. my H does not cook. he has been warming up food my friends have graciously brought over for him and the kids. soon he will go back to work and it will be my job again to cook. i find i am terrified to do this. i feel afraid to be around food again. esp food i like, but cant or shouldnt eat. how have others handled this? my only friend with this surgery who has kids has a H who does all the cooking. my other two friends with bypass, one is single and the other a H who does his own thing with food. could really use some input, a little freaked. thanks.
