  2. i personally assume that all of us have disordered eating in some form or another. YMMV.
  3. "nope, I just ate big portions, and or bad food that's all" yeah, well, dont believe everything you read. if that was all, then having major surgery wouldnt have been needed. i assume almost everyone here is either an emotional eater or a full blown food addict. people who arent dont need this kind of help. dont compare your insides to anyone else's outside, you dont know whats going on inside anyone else, except for the clues in their behavior.

    True Life Story

and there are so many thing that my bio mom and i share, it's freaky. i mean really mind blowing. too many to list. but in some ways, this is a trap. she assumes she knows me, cause in so many way, we are like twins. but really, it would be better if she spent time just asking me questions and listening to me. but she's not very good at that. so i try to do that for her. as much as i can. but she isnt very open. she spent too many years buttoned up tight about herself. but i try. the best thing you can do with your dad and brother is ask questions and listen closely to their answers. just spend time getting to know them and letting them know who you are.

    True Life Story

i was reunited with my bio mom 11.5 years ago. its a life changing event. i have a bio dad and half sister on the other side of the country i have not met in person yet, but keep in touch with. i call it the intimate stranger effect. the person is a stranger... and yet you know him/her intimately. its pretty freaky. i am so sorry this was kept from you your whole life. i always knew i was adopted.

Please Help Me Wrap My Head Around This...

this is called body dysmorphic disorder. if you find a therapist who specializes in treating eating disorders, you can get some help for it. losing weight isnt going to make it go away. you need professional help. ***hugs***

On Display Like Some Kind Of Freak!

you cant control other people, so what is it you need to do to take care of yourself in this situation? only you can make yourself feel better, only you can change your thoughts about what is happening... how can you reframe this so you can move on?

    Putting weight on

how long did it take you to gain 12 pounds?
  12. i was told to eat every two hours. Protein, protein, protein. drink in between. sip, sip, sip. and the doc said i would be dragging ass for 6-8 weeks. i didnt actually feel "better" till week 9. so, he was right. they didnt even pretend i could eat a "meal" i was told to eat one egg, one cheese stick, 1/4 cup cottage cheese. whatever i could fit in each time. one thing i realized right away. if i didnt eat every 2-3 hours, my blood sugar would drop and i would eat too fast the next time and everything would come back up. so listen to your body nd et when you are hungry... otherwise you just continue the cycle of disordered eating.

how many grams of protein are you getting daily? how many calories? how much water? do you use a device that measures your calories burned each day?

    Young & Nervous

i think most bariatric doctors, etc would recommend bypass to you simply because you arent going to lose as much weight with the sleeve. you will lose only a percentage of excess weight not matter what route you go, bypass will allow you to lose the most. i am not sure you are a candidate for any wls right now though. i know the hospital i was at will only operate on people 400 pounds and under, its simply too risky for most people at 450 pounds. but it might depend on your co-morbidities. if you are generally healthy, which at your age, you might be, they might agree to do it. have you gone to see a bariatric doctor yet? really this is all about how bad you want this. if you are ready to do whatever it takes to be normal weight, then you accept the risks... 'cause seriously, what is your quality of life right now? honestly? if you can be truly honest and really look at what your life is as a morbidly obese person, versus what it would be like if you weighed a third of what you do... well then the surgery doesnt seem so invasive anymore, yk? do some heavy duty soul searching and then you will have your answer. good luck.

    cycles, wtf is happening?

firstly, i am almost 48, i dont have very regular cycles. sometimes they are very light, sometimes heavy with cramping. 4 days after surgery i started spotting. never got a real period. i spotted on and off for a week. i guess it was because of dehydration. 6 weeks later i start spotting again. my period never really starts. i figure it is over after a week of on again off again bleeding. then i wake up this morning, heavy bleeding. huh? very abnormal. any clues anyone? i realize my body is still in the wtf just happened stage, but this is annoying and confusing.

If you still struggle afterwards, why do it?

not to hijack this thread, but i wonder the same thing. i have always been happy with 150-160, which is 30 pounds more than i m "supposed" to weigh. i still have 30 more pounds to go, i guess i shouldnt think about it too much about it! lol

    Overeating

my nut said eat every two hours so you do not get too hungry. so i had to get a reminder on my phone to remind me. usually its a mini protein bar, or a cheese stick, nothing big. but it prevents the blood sugar drop so i do not over eat.
