where did you have your surgery? i am really surprised you are able to tolerate and were told to eat these kinds of foods. at 5 weeks i was moving from purees to soft foods. at 6 months i am able to eat 2-3 slices of raw apple and can almost get down two eggs for breakfast. is what you are eating your actual post op diet? how many grams of Protein are you getting each day? how many ounces of Water? how much exercise?

Gaining the weight BACK after doing everything to get ready and now losing the surgery because my weight went up instead of going down

i would try something like 1/2 cup low fat canned refried beans, 2 poached eggs, 1/4 avocado with a dollop of salsa and plain greek yogurt. you probably arent going to be able to go no carb, but just start with cutting out sugar. try protein and sweet potatoes for lunch and big salads with beans and protein for dinner. make sure you plan snacks. apples, berries, premeasured packages of nuts, cheese sticks, greek yogurt. planning and premeasured portions are key. track everything you eat on a food tracking app like my fitness pal, and read labels obsessively. no fast food, no fried foods, dont drink your calories, try cutting out, little by little, added sugar sources. the suggestions in that article are really good. walk as much as you can. -
Have you ever been chastised by another doctor for having weight loss surgery?
moonlitestarbrite replied to ribearty's topic in Rants & Raves
google "natural anti-inflammatory treatments." there are lots of alternatives. my fav is turmeric (the spice) and bromeline (from pineapple). you can buy them in one capsule from the HFS. i used it to treat my asthma for several years until i didnt need treatment anymore. if my asthma comes back after being sick, i take it for week or so and all better. doctors dont know what they dont know. no one does. -

i know that 12 step groups suggest giving it 90 days before you make a decision about the meetings. there are also lots of online resources for OA, so you can access support 24/7. if you are eating breadsticks and fruit for breakfast, it sounds like you have a problem with sugar. here is a good article from NPR. try going paleo for a few months to break that addiction.. good suggestions in the article too. http://pinterest.com/pin/75716837459097661/ focus on Protein, Water and veggies, tracking all your food and walking! with the OA support, you can do this! -
Scared to be a failure...yet again...
moonlitestarbrite replied to hmjdreamingbig's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
its life changing surgery! you are right to be scared, its not a trivial thing. follow your post op plans... diet, exercise, meds schedule, you'll do great! a tiny amount of fear will keep you honest. -
Gluten Intolerant and Sleeve, Anyone have and advice?
moonlitestarbrite replied to Mini Me Wanna~Be's topic in Food and Nutrition
feel free to private message me. my H is GF, and i cook mostly primal for us... we stay away from packaged GF products. they are expensive, unhealthy and my H cross reacts to the corn products in them. specialty products like almond flour, rice Pasta, certified gluten free oats can be ordered easily online from amazon.com, vitacost.com, etc. just stick with simple Protein and veggies in the beginning, and you will be fine. -
The benefits of eating celery
moonlitestarbrite replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
my post op paperwork says to destring the celery before eating it. those strings dont digest and can cause problems. -
gross generalization. just like any place you shop, there will be weird people and not so weird people in HFS. i worked with bodybuilders, devout christians, practicing buddhists, yogis, people who smoked on break, people who ran to fast food places after work, people who could have given a rats ass about health food and people who were convinced coffee enemas would lead to world peace. and a whole bunch of people who were so normal i dont even remember them. there were way more freaks i worked with at the county hospital in mental health. way more.

you should consult with your nutritionist and/or diet paperwork from your hospital.

Bypass vs sleeve
moonlitestarbrite replied to sbailey1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
diabetes resolves with the sleeve too. as does high blood pressure and other comorbidities. i have not used my CPAP machine since the hospital. -
Decisions, Decisions... RNY or DS?
moonlitestarbrite replied to patrice1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
you should not take NSAIDs with the sleeve, but losing weight seems to go a long way in taking away a lot of reasons for taking them in the first place. portion control is doing it for me, and sugar still makes me feel icky. i have lost almost 70 pounds in almost 6 months. i am very happy with the sleeve. -
Decisions, Decisions... RNY or DS?
moonlitestarbrite replied to patrice1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
my hospital is a "center of excellence" and does not offer DS. i dont know if that is significant or not, but something to consider. -

most of them are super high in carbs, low in protein, so pick your recipes carefully.

i just juiced today! being 5.5 months OP i can drink more than i could this summer. usually i do cucumber, red pepper, romaine & half an apple. or carrot, ginger and romaine. look online for low sugar juicing recipes, stick with 1/2 to 1 piece of fruit. my H likes the clean taste of beet & romaine, little ginger.

No one ever said..i'm worried about how heavy you are getting!
moonlitestarbrite replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
dont know if its maturity or apathy! lmao! i was married to a very dysfunction human being who used this as a tactic to distract me from his bullshit... he would always start with what his ex had supposedly said about me. i learned (bitterly over many years) that almost everything he said was a lie. so, seriously, when someone tries to tell me what someone has supposedly said about me i, 1. doubt their sincerity. 2. question their intension. 3. almost never believe it. 4. ask them what their purpose is in telling me something someone chose to not say directly to me. really and truly, it is not my business what someone else thinks of me. if they want me to know, they will tell me directly and even then it has very little to do with me. its all them. -

"what other people think of me is none of my business." i always wonder about the people who say to me, "so, you want to know what so and so said to me about you the other day?" 'cause what exactly is the motivation driving that kind of communication?? thats who i usually drop outta my life. . -
Cheated with veggies
moonlitestarbrite replied to planetheather's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
veggies! yum. eat them up. i was allowed cooked veggies at 3.5 months. i get 50-60 grams of protein a day. aim for real food, not supplemental protein. if you are a little low, eat a string cheese or egg. or two. -

My new plan to reduce snacking habits/ increase weight loss
moonlitestarbrite replied to mamamareli's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
according to this http://gastricbypass.netfirms.com/understandingsmallgastricpouch.htm (written about RNY BP, but applies to the sleeve too), liquid calories are a Very Bad Idea. you are better off with 3 meals of 3-4 ounces of protein and 2 snacks one of which is also protein. its a technical article written by a doc for docs, but worth slogging through. -

You Should Not Consider Bariatric Surgery if..
moonlitestarbrite replied to No game's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
yeah, my nut said lack of family support (ie house full of crappy food choices) is the number one factor in regain. she recommends at the very first nutrition seminar to eat up what is in your house and not buy anymore crap. if there is still stuff in your house 2 weeks before surgery, throw it out and forbid any take out in the house at least until 6 months post op. she recommend family members come to the nutrition seminar and tells them, eat take out, etc elsewhere, not in the house. many people are all "no no, it's fine i can deal." but the fact is... you wouldnt have a house full of alcohol if your loved one was coming home from rehab. my H had been really great. but he's eating gluten free now and struggling himself with healthier food choices.
