6 years is a long time! how many sleeves a week does he/she do? ask them that. -
fiber supplements from the drugstore that draw Water from the bowel can actually make things worse. Probiotics from yogurt and kefir are really important for regulation after after surgery or big dietary changes. you are better off with fiber from food like oatmeal, chia seeds, sweet potatoes, lentils, dried fruit than laxatives. there is also a supplemental fiber called "konjac root" (which comes from a plant) that is very affective. there is also an herbal supplement called "triphala" which is a mixture of 3 kinds of dried fruit powder. these are things you can take every day which are safer than laxatives. its better to prevent constipation by making sure there are certain things in your daily diet than trying to treat it whenever it happens.

you def want a surgeon who is very experienced with the surgery. the more he/she does, the better. the more surgeries per year, the better the patient outcome. look for a center of excellence, with a doctor who does AT LEAST 100-200 a year. my surgeon probably does over 500 a year. -

well then, you are probably right that the risks are too great. this surgery is for people who feel they have no other good options available to them to recover from obesity and the illnesses that come with that. -

you said you have kids... my hair loss was pretty much the same as after my kids were born. if you take care of yourself after the surgery, the hair loss is minimized. people who seem to have the worst hair loss seem to have other issues also related to poor nutrition. you def need to be ready to have this surgery. if the surgery scares you more than being morbidly obese, you arent ready. -

Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?
moonlitestarbrite replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Rants & Raves
this is probably the worst analogy to use for us, but, here it goes.... when you go to a buffet and there is a dish there you dont like, do you get angry and rage at the chef for making and offering you something you dont like? do you feel offended and take it personally? do you feel like the chef's choice was made specifically as a way to hurt you? probably not. most likely what you do is say, "oh what is that over there that i do like?" and you move on to choose the dishes you do like. you dont let those dishes you dont like ruin your meal or wreck the enjoyment of the food you do like. online forums are exactly the same way. people will offer you all kinds of things. you get to pick and choose what you want to take in. you need not get angry, enraged, offended, take it personal, or allow it to wreck your experience here at bariatric pal. take what you want, leave the rest. of course its your choice. but ultimately, your experience here is your responsibility, no one else's..... only you can choose your attitude. -

Regaining of weight
moonlitestarbrite replied to LFitz66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if you have been "in" therapy for 12 years and are still binge eating, you A.) arent being treated for an eating disorder and B.) need a new therapist and C.) are most likely not being honest with the therapist about your eating behavior and what is really happening with you. as a former chemical dependency counselor, private therapist and human services professional, i will tell you that any therapist who agrees to see a client for 12 years is crappy. (unless you are seeing a psychiatrist for meds, thats not therapy) no self respecting therapist should see anyone for 12 years! you need to look for eating disorder treatment regardless if you have this surgery or not. you need to get rigorously honest with yourself. and do what you know in your heart you need to do to overcome your ED. i will tell you i wasnt able to really get a handle on my food issues until i was able (with this surgery) to stop eating! its not easy to regain weight after weight loss surgery if you are aware of and healing your food issues... it is easy however to remain in denial about your food issues and disordered eating. -
american in general need to stop fooling themselves into believing that anything on TV is real. even news is carefully edited and presented in a certain way to manipulate people and push their buttons so they keep watching. its not real, its a carefully created fantasy. all of it... sports, news, reality TV, etc. there is nothing wrong with watching, but you have to know what you are watching and not get manipulated and sucked in.

whenever you are cleared for beans and veggies. i had a different timeline for cooked versus raw veggies.

. yup, its commonly recommended for babies and children who are constipated. people should do what works for them, i just want to mention, for noobs, that juice can cause dumping. my H, who suffers from IBS, eats an apple and a yogurt every day. this works for him. there are lots of ways to treat constipation. my MIL eats a pear or dried fruit every day.

some people, even with sleeves, dump from drinking juice. its pure sugar and leaves the stomach very quickly. this may be why it works so well.

this was in my feed yesterday. i love jamie. i really prefer the taste of freshly cooked chickpeas, but canned is much easier. just make sure you rinse them well. http://www.jamieoliver.com/news-and-features/features/best-basic-hummus-recipe/

i have no idea if this is okay to post here, but i could use a little feedback as i am overwhelmed and having trouble getting focused (nothing new there! lol) i am in the middle of becoming a certified personal trainer. i am saving money to become a certified health coach. i have a background in counseling (chemical dependency counselor for 7 years, family counselor and private therapist for 6 years), natural health and healing (managed health food stores for 3 years, among lots of other things i did/learned), and cooking for health (taught classes and did private consultations for special diets). i want to focus on helping people get prepared for surgery (or just lose weight) and adjust after surgery. what do you think would be most helpful for me to offer? currently i am working with 2 people on anxiety/emotional eating/autoimmune diets. we meet 1:1 and we plan ways to practice dealing with anxiety without food. i also help them plan meals to deal with autoimmune disorders and help one of them cook. they are friends and i do this to help them out and practice what i know. i want to figure out how to monetize my services, but am not sure what A.) would be most important for people and B.) what people would actually pay for. C.) or how to present myself to people. any feedback would be important for me to hear to help me with moving forward. thanks.

thanks jane, i like a lot of what you said! at our support group we only talk about actual food with noobs. the inside work seems to be about everything but the actual food. eating behavior and feeling hungry yes, but not about the food.
