    Kinda Personal Question

things are better with my H and i. sex is more fun and i enjoy it more. i still have issues with desire that i think are more emotional than anything. but i do think my hormone issues are much much better. i am off of meds for PMDD, my periods have become regular again, and i am certainly way more interested than i was pre surgery! i think surgery can really help, but honestly, you are going to have to do some inside work too, as you are gonna lose weight but you're gonna get saggy to. just losing weight isnt going to magically make you like your body. to like your body again and feel sexy is going to take some work on your part. take a look at some of the books on amazon about desire and learning to love your body. there are a lot of good books there to read. i bought and read this book a few years ago and my H and i are reading it together again. just an FYI. http://www.soundstrue.com/shop/The-Enlightened-Sex-Manual/2996.pd

    9 days...

its not easy learning how to be alone with yourself and not being able to medicate yourself with food. i worked on organizing projects, watched TV series on netflix and took long slow walks. my 22 year old cat died when i was 3 weeks post op and that week i kinda came to grips with with the fact that i cant eat away my feelings any more. i pretty much felt like i was imploding and freaked out, but made it through the night and felt the next day like i really could do it! i would suggest seeing a counselor to help you with how you are coping. you will need to create new ways of dealing with your life and will likely need help. i have adhd too and was not able to take my meds again until i was 2 months post op. i am lucky to have great support for my new life.

    hypoglycemia

fat and fiber help to stabilize blood sugar levels. the best way to figure out what is going on is to take lots of BGL readings with a glucometer. first thing in the morning, right before you eat, 15 minutes after you eat, then 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours after you eat. for you, add in before and after you exercise. if you then track what you eat (and the type and duration of your exercise) you will then know how food and exercise are affecting you and you can adjust accordingly. many people find adding in fiber and good fats to their diet help stabilize things. others find they need more low GI carbs or better hydration. the only way to know though is to test and experiment. good luck!

    The Neverending period

actually the anemia usually comes first. and affects clotting ability with it. have your vitamin D levels checked too.

What you wished you had known before being sleeved?!?!?

i wish i had really understood how hard it would be to not drink with meals, eat slow, chew well, get in 60 grams of protein and 64 ounces of water. and how damn easy it is to become dehydrated. i had complications from my surgery (from a bout of pancreatitis from my gall bladder surgery that we didnt know about. which left me with a belly full of scar tissue that needed to be cleaned up). so i really struggled with getting anything in and keeping anything down for more than 3 weeks. so i wish i had known to be more serious about what i needed to practice before hand. now that i am 8 months PO most things are habit, but the first few months were really hard. the learning curve is steep. it was a shock. i wish i had been better prepared mentally and emotionally. but i am not sure if that is possible.

    do you miss?

rice doesnt sit well in my stomach. it swells after you eat it, so i can tolerate more than 1-2 tbsp. but i dont miss it. not really. like i said, i miss stuffing myself, but the food, even food that i loved loved loved, i dont really miss.

    do you miss?

i have had plenty of opportunity to overeat before i had this surgery. so no, i don't wish i had indulged more. that's how i got to the place where i needed surgery!! what i do wish was that i had spent more time before surgery practicing dealing with life without medicating myself with food. sometimes i really struggle and there is no easy out anymore. i can't eat mindlessly until i am stuffed and not feeling stress or anxiety or being overwhelmed. i dont miss food. i miss being able to use food to easily make myself feel better.

went to the ER with chest pains, guess what it was?

anyone having any kind of spasms should consider 600 mg of magnesium a day, with extra B6. it is safe to take with medicines and will not interact with anything and may totally clear up your spasms. i recommend a good chelated brand like county life in divided doses.

you may want to look for a bariatric center of excellence in your area. that would be a good place to start.

    Vitamin deficiency?

i wonder how many normal (or obese) people with standard american diets are deficient in these nutrients. here's the thing about any follow up study with people who have had WLS, we are, as a group, not people who generally comply with diets, follow doctors orders or follow through with caring for ourselves. if we were, we wouldnt need this surgery. in my group, many people are not consistent with their Vitamins , or they take the cheapest kind they can. a few dont take them at all. and many still eat a diet full of processed junk and fast foods with very few fresh fruits and vegetables. out of 60ish people in the group, i think their are 3 of us who eat whole, organic diets. so, i wouldnt base what is going to happen with me on what others do... since its about my choices, not theirs.
  23. you know there are no carbs in eggs, cheese and onions right? how about adding half a piece of fruit? when you are shaky, take a spoonful of honey or maple syrup and hold in your mouth for 60-90 seconds before swallowing. if you dont feel better in 5 minutes, do it again. 77 is too low and you could pass out next time you feel like that. its dangerous.
  24. yeah, that is super low. what did they recommend for you about the low blood sugar? did they suggest you get a glucometer to track your BGL? some people just cant do carbs that low. i did the slow carb diet (as recommended by my doctor) several years ago... it's no processed carbs, lots of lean Protein and non-starchy veggies and a small amount of fruit. i felt really crappy. recognizing my symptoms from when i was pregnant, i asked my doc for a script for test strips and got a coupon for a free glucometer. sure enough, i was low! (fasting BGL: 86) even after my morning coffee with 2 sugars. guess what? my birthmom has reactive hypoglycemia too! i need at least 100 grams a day too feel "normal" and not feel like i am in outer space. (i hated the feeling of ketosis after my surgery too... though some people claim they feel great when in it) so you should go with what is healthiest for you. i would ask for a script so you can track your BGL... fasting, before you eat, 15 minutes after (some people shoot up really high after they eat.. also bad for the body, so good to know), 1 hour and 3 hours. if you write down all this info, along with what you eat, you will have a better idea how to manage it. not everyone reacts the same to the same food, which is why everyone needs to listen to their own body when it comes to eating. (ie, some people can't tolerate dairy, despite the doc saying eat two dairy servings a day) tracking your BGL will take out the guess work and give you concrete info to go on when making decisions about what and when to eat.
  25. i have never seen anyone who was told to stay under 25 grams of carbs a day. my paperwork, from a bariatric center of excellence, says that after 6 months you should be getting 120-150 grams of carbs from whole food sources. under 25 is really really low. my center recommends a high fiber meal plan for life after surgery, you cant do that on 25 grams of carbs...
