Milk and Whey Protein
moonlitestarbrite replied to Losing in PA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
burping and sneezing means there is too much in your stomach. when your stomach is too full it irritates the vagus nerve at he top of the stomach and you sneeze. try drinking slower and give your stomach some time to empty. -
Reactive Hypoglycemia After Bariatric Surgery
moonlitestarbrite replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
yup, i had this when i was pregnant. i highly recommend getting a blood sugar monitor to check blood glucose levels before and after eating and exercise to see how food and exercise affects you. it's different for everyone. some people get high surges and then drops. some people are only reactive to high GI foods, so people are reactive to not eating enough carbs, some people have sudden drops whenever they eat. if you track your BGL you will be able to more easily treat it. -

yupper! our minds work alike. similarly, "i have lost 100 pounds but i still hate myself and my body and everything makes me miserable. does anyone else have this issue? i was really hoping losing weight would make me like myself. i dont know what to do." ummmm... does the phrase "professional help" mean anything to you? maybe not. -

we could just call it COPING WITHOUT food, since addiction is such a flamable word. i frankly dont give a FF what its called, i just know that if i cant figure out how to soothe, calm and entertain myself without food, i will fail at this. exercise, deep breathing, talking to others, doing art, these things all help. also losing weight has made my hormonal problems lessen, so emtionally i am more stable and need to cope less. its all good, but more help is always good. -

anything really sweet makes me feel "yucky." i dont know how to explain it. just icky in my stomach. not too sweet things i can do fine... greek yogurt with 15 or less grams of sugar, natural graham crackers, dark chocolate. even some fruit makes me feel yucky, bananas esp. i cannot eat pasta even 1/4 cup. rice i have only tried 1-2 tbsp. i can eat one piece of bread, no more. i have not tried fried foods, take out or fast food. i try to stick to whole unprocessed foods anyway. raw veggies fill me up and make me feel really really full. i have to be really careful, or i end up bloated and queasy. i am fine with cooked veggies though. -

not to be provocative... but one thing that really surprises me... there isnt a forum or even thread to talk specifically about food addiction. is it the word? ADDICTION. i am not sure why these surprises me, but it does. beyond the nuts and bolts of pre op and post op, i would think people would want to talk about recovery from and how to deal with food addiction. not 12 steppy stuff, just how to cope with life without medicating with food... a friend is having this surgery and she and i have spoken repeatedly about how to deal with everything from anxiety over work, to donuts in the break room, to physical pain to loneliness to, stress over money and everything else you can think of without using food to comfort, soothe and escape. it seems like its essential to being successful long term with this surgery. i went to my irl support group and two of the women there were 3 years post op. they both said, "its a head thing now. not about food at all." but i see forums for biker sleevers, tattooed sleevers and texas sleevers, but no forums on food addiction. **scratching my head** -

LMAO... yeah lots of fabulousness going on here.... i have to admit, i am a book whore, i will read them anyway they come... paper, kindle, nook, .pdf on my ipad... i am not fussy... i'll read them in the back of a car, in a dark alley, a park bench... my fav place is in bed though. preferably my bed, but i really dont care... and i adore the word metamorphoses... but mine has felt more like... uh... an excavation i think. an archeological dig where you have to sift everything away in a fine screen, or use a brush to uncover the layers, bit by tiny bit. -

oh you shouldnt take it personally, no not at all... i should have said i have ADHD and i get very easily distracted and suffer from extreme restlessness that nothing except falling in love can cure! (which is dumb, cause one cannot repeatedly over and over fall in love) it feels like chronic boredom. be glad you dont have this, its annoying as hell and makes me crabby and irritating to other people, but mostly to me! -

why i got fat.... i have been bored senseless most of my life! i left the mothering.com forums 'cause no matter the forum, it was the same topics over and over and over. ::yawn:: yeah, i wonder sometimes what happen to laura-ven, gamer girl, butterthebean... they must have gone somewhere private and now things are even more boring around here! private message me your book! i am interested! i need something more interesting than this cup of tea at 11pm on a rainy friday night. -
those are also the symptoms of dumping. i wonder if this happened from ice cream (which is a liquid and therefore exits the stomach really fast), if its not hypoglycemia but dumping.

Weight loss surgery is NOT easy... the things I wished they had warned me about.
moonlitestarbrite replied to Iambeautiful's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
its worth saying that some doctors believe that if you tell people all of the things that could go wrong, they do... meaning when people expect the worst, it happens. and i believe that for some of us, we want so desperately to have this surgery, we dont hear any of the negatives. or if we do, we are overwhelmed with so much info, we dont process it all. i know it took me a while to wrap my brain around everything. and frankly, very few of us a healthy when we have this surgery. and so our level of complications is likely much higher. sad, but true. -
i am sure it would, but just eat the veggies and fruit! juicing is different because it take out the pulp.
-
as long as your juice is almost all veggies, it counts for your Water intake. juice from fruit doesnt.
-
a friend told me to do this. i was like, "yeah! no." her H did a 40 day juice fast and lost 42 pounds. he won the weight loss challenge at work and $380. and a year later he's gained it all back. i think juicing can be amazing, esp for people with chronic inflammation diseases. but i dont think its a cure for obesity. its too easy to gain the weight back when you start eating real food again. just like any diet. you have to permanently change your relationship with food in all its aspects to keep it off long term.

I hate not drinking while I eat.
moonlitestarbrite replied to karinbuck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it was really hard for the first couple of months. now, i dont ever think about it. i do have a cup of coffee and then a big bottle of hot tea first thing in the morning before i have breakfast to give me a jump on my fluids for the day. its easier to get in my protein than my water. -

Weight loss surgery is NOT easy... the things I wished they had warned me about.
moonlitestarbrite replied to Iambeautiful's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
yes, surgery is risky and people can and do have complications. my surgeon was very straight with me about all the possible outcomes. he was clear that bad things do sometimes happen and there simply isnt any way to know who will and wont have issues. no surgery should be gone into lightly. ever. i had complications, it was about 5 weeks before i stopped being horribly nauseous. it was nine weeks before i really felt like i wasnt totally dragging ass. he told me it would be about 8 weeks and since i felt i was about two weeks behind everyone else with the same surgery dates, he was about right. there are people who have very few issues and are back in the game in a few days. i was not. i recovered from my gall bladder surgery really quickly. this was a different deal. i am glad you are feeling better now. and hang in there, i wasnt able to really get anything in here for at least 2 months, maybe more. i am amazed when i can eat 2 meatballs even now. i can barely eat an entire container of yogurt! i am nearly 8 months po. -
apple juice can make you dump... even with a sleeve. so be careful. maybe carrots, red peppers and sweet potatoes for a sweet taste. i did mostly cucumber and lettuce right after surgery. lil bit of ginger, spinach and berries.

the constant pain from the damn attacks stopped! i birthed two babies at home, no meds. i took A LOT of pain killers in the four months i needed my gall bladder out.
