have you been tested for C diff? you need to talk to your doctor ASAP! you could have a serious infection in your intestines from all the antibiotics. -

Almost 10 months out and having trouble losing weight
moonlitestarbrite replied to JessicaAnn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
def slowing your metabolism by not eating enough calories. start adding in calories until you start losing again, then you will know how much you need to eat so you can lose. i am amazed you are feeling okay, and not having physical issues with eating so few calories. -

Almost 10 months out and having trouble losing weight
moonlitestarbrite replied to JessicaAnn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
all of the research i have done (as an amateur online researcher), points to slowed metabolism, usually due to not enough calories, fat, Protein, carbs, micronutrients, Water, exercise or a combination of all of the above. the only way to really figure it out is to list out all the factors and how much of each you usually get (like tracking daily for a week or two) and then playing with each factor one at a time to see what affects your weight. i would start with seeing how getting 80 ounces of water affects you. (that would be the most obvious place to start) each person is different. each of us have different levels of hormones, inflammation, and presurgical damage to our metabolism. (and most importantly, genes) so you will need to look at it as an experiment and investigate what is working and not working for you. once you figure this out, you will know what the key is for you to increase your metabolism. there is no magic answer for everyone, but there are ways to figure it out for you. -
you take great notes. i want you in my study group!

What type of questions to expect during psych evaluation?
moonlitestarbrite replied to SillyMomo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
i had questions like: why do you think you are obese? do you think you have an eating disorder? what do you need to change in order to be successful with this surgery? whats your plan for changing those things? who will support you the most? what are three things you can do to cope with your feelings without food? did you have any trauma in the past that still bothers you? how do you feel about exercising? do you know how to shop and cook healthy meals? what do you do for socializing besides eating? a friend's appt took almost 3 hours, but she was still recommended for surgery because she is seeing a therapist and attending an eating disorder support group. -
This is so difficult!
moonlitestarbrite replied to aNewTanya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
one of the things that makes us obese is mindless eating. we eat quickly, we gulp our food without chewing, we eat large amounts. after surgery we need to MINDFULLY eat slowly. very slowly. we need to take small bites and chew slowly and throughly and be mindful of every single thing that passes our lips. we need to plan what we will eat, when we will eat and make sure we get enough Water in, in between eating. it takes a lot of effort to pay attention to all this. it can be a lot for people who are used to paying little attention to how and what we eat. thats why its so so important to practice all these things as much as possible BEFORE surgery. its also important to expect that recovery is 6-8 weeks. that learning to live with your sleeve can take 3-4 months or more. i know people who are still vomiting from eating too much or too fast 9 months out. most people learn really fast how to eat with the sleeve. most people get past the first 6 miserable weeks and feel so much better from losing weight that its all worth it. its not easy, but most people dont regret it. you have to have reasonable expectations too. its major surgery. its life changing. its going to forever change your relationship with food. you have to be willing to give that up. its not by accident that we are here. if we knew how to eat healthily, how to listen to our body's clues about hunger and fullness, about how to be mindful about food and eating, we probably wouldnt have gotten obese in the first place. turning all this around, esp if you dont practice before surgery could seem exhausting. but you have to accept that this is a lifelong change, you will need to be mindful of everything that goes in your mouth the rest of your life. so if you arent committed to that, arent willing to put that kind of effort in, then this isnt likely the choice for you. -

moonlitestarbrite replied to aNewTanya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
did you have a chance to discuss your expectations with the psych or surgeon before surgery? things will get better. you will feel better. eating like we have to will become more natural. but you will have to pay attention to how much Protein and Water you get for the rest of you life. if you go on "automatic pilot" again, you will regain. you might want to talk to your NUT, your expectations about this surgery may be a little unrealistic. and it does take 6-9 weeks before you really feel "normal" again. -
ABORT SURGERY!
moonlitestarbrite replied to Chubalicious's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
okay, i thought maybe your liver was enlarged because of drinking. do you eat a diet really high in fat? the liver has to work harder to digest fat than other foods. i was similar to you, 236#, 5'2". but my liver was not enlarged. people who eat lots of fast food frquently have enlarged livers and elevated enzymes. -

What was the point?
moonlitestarbrite replied to Pretty_In_Purple's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the point is, she feels what she is doing isnt working. and since you can only fit a tiny bit in your sleeve at this point, filling it with nutrient empty foods instead of Protein is counter-productive. just because something is on your list of food you can eat, doesn't mean you should. my post op list was full of sugar free crap. doesnt mean i should eat it. i have done fine without it. -

Hardest thing for you?
moonlitestarbrite replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
in the last five years i have done a lot of research on how to reduce inflammation in the body without drugs. i have issues, but managed to reduce my reactive C protein markers down into the normal range. my MIL has lupus and my good friend has both scleroderma and fibromyalgia.. all autoimmune disorders related to abnormal inflammation in the body. PM me your email or FB info and i will send you a few things. you can also like my FB page "whole health wellness" where i post a lot of things on reducing inflammation thru natural means. -
getting through the emotional past of this surgery is hard even if we are doing well. went i went to see my PCP about six weeks after the surgery, she commented, "you've had life changing surgery! of course you feel lost sometimes!" she was exactly right. i was struggling to learn how to have a different life and a different me. its not easy. but you can get through it. you've got this and its only going to get better. start looking for people locally who are interested in health, healthy eating and exercise. a new life needs people who share the same new goals you have now. you're doing great.
