What the heck do you eat?!?

how many grams of protein are you getting per day? maybe you need to add more protein.

    No meat...? Oh the struggle...

i am 11 months post op and tolerate ground meat much better too. we just do lots of organic ground meat dishes.

What do you do instead of "Going out to dinner"?

take a walk in the woods, go to a movie, work out together, go to a library or bookstore, visit a local museum or art gallery. google "date night ideas." i am really trying to get away from the food = socializing idea. for my birthday i invited my girls to a yoga class and then we all used the hot tub and sauna at the local JCC. then we had tea and coffee and hung out and talked. it was great and normally we all would have gone out for dinner, sat on our asses for 3 hours and eaten way to much food and consumed too much alcohol and spent far too much money.

What the heck do you eat?!?

real food. last night be had sloppy joes made in the crockpot. the night before was baked catfish. before that was chicken salad and the night before that chicken stir fry. i eat eggs, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese, almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, oatmeal, quinoa, sweet potatoes. i make lots of things with oatmeal. i eat most meat, though my budget and my H's preferences dictate a lot of ground meat (we eat organic), sausages, chicken thighs and not very expensive fish. i have kids and a husband with food allergies, so my cooking is more complicated than most, but we eat mostly things that are not processed, dont come from a box, jar, can, package. i try and keep it simple... ie, meatballs, roasted broccoli and brown rice. or baked fish, roasted sweet potatoes and salad.

Maybe I shouldn't be reading so many posts

just remember that people who have smooth sailing dont post on forums (usually). they are busy living their lives. some people like the companionship of the forums.. but mostly, people who struggle are the people who are here. struggling isnt bad per se, this isnt easy stuff to overcome. in my surgery daye group on FB, there are about 65 members and pnly about 25 post regularly, the rest only show up when they have problems.

Spouse not on board with WLS

i havent read all the replies, but my H was not happy about the idea... but any surgery scares the hell out of him. so i took him to the weight loss surgery seminar my hospital does. they lay everything out... the diet, risks, possible complications, outcomes, everything. and then he wasnt happy, but he was supportive. he understood, there was no more confusion, and it really helped him understand what i needed. and he's been great. it helped that he had very painful surgery 3 years before and i took care of him, so he was able to use that experience to guide him.

Bariatric Bullies--You know who you are!

maybe the term bullying is being used when people feel intimidated but its not exactly bullying? i dont know that i have seen anything like this around here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullying but guessing semantics can be debated till the cows come home. (skinny, fat free cows of course!)

Bariatric Bullies--You know who you are!

i guess i fail to see how anyone else can "ruin" anything for me... this is an online forum. there are 100s and 100s of people here. at any one time there will be many people saying things i dont like, for whatever reason. if someone says something i dont like, i move on. people werent put on this earth to act the way i think they should and vise versa. its not my job to babysit anyone's feelings and no one should have to babysit my feelings.... if someone is personally attacking me then i report them. otherwise, no one ruins anything for me... i am an adult, i get to choose how much weight i put on someone else's responses to me (or anyone else). once i start requiring other people to act a certain way so i can have a certain experience, i am giving away my power and responsibility. i am here to get support, knowledge and share my experience. if any one person isnt adding to that, so what? move on! if you are going to hang out in an online forum, you need a thick skin... people are always going to act in ways you dont like, you cant let them ruin your experience here if the reason you are here is important to you.

Looking for a surgeon in Rochester New York

i know there's a support group... but i have heard mixed things about it. its a teal life support group, not online. there is a band revision group here on bariatricpal.com i think you will get pretty honest responses.

Looking for a surgeon in Rochester New York

i loved dr joseph johnson. many people have o'malley. mostly everyone loves him, but say his manner can be abrasive. dr johnson is the chief of surgery at highland. no matter which doc you get, you have the same team pre and post op. good luck!
  16. cravings are a mental response to a physical or emotional state... everyone has different triggers. and only some of them come from being hungry. (which is the only thing this surgery is reported to "maybe" control.) mostly cravings come from anxiety, discomfort, tiredness, loneliness, anger, smells, sights, etc. in order to get past cravings we have to identify our triggers and then plan out ahead of time how we will deal with them. the more we work through them the easier they become to deal with (weaker the response next time), eventually they may go away... but can come any time from any trigger. we have to do the work, the sleeve doesnt magically fix eveything. cravings dont usually have much to do with being hungry, which is why we all got fat.

    Protein

protein malnutrition. which can make you very sick. it can affect every organ in your body. it will also slow down your metabolism to the point where you wont lose any weight. i was not able to drink the shakes, but i realized that milk mixed with greek yogurt gave me about the same amount of protein as a shake. so i drank that and when i was a little more healed my nut okayed protein bars for me to eat instead.
  22. . did you see my post that i had the same thing and acupuncture helped me a lot? i went 3 times a week for 3 weeks... made a big difference. if you google natural treatments for gastroparisis, acupunctures was shown in a study to actually help.
  23. he's abusing you. i hope you and your counselor have already come to this conclusion. you will have to keep working on your own self worth until you feel strong enough to stand up to him and not allow him to treat you like this anymore. he is a very disturbed person. there isnt anything you can do to change him. do you have family or friends you can go to stay with? but guessing you arent ready to leave him yet. its a shame, you deserve to be treated with respect. keep going to counseling. good luck.

So anybody else want to do bodily harm to their psych?

and this is the person who is determining if you are stable enough to have surgery. *rolling eyes* pretty sure this is why they use psychologists at my hospital... lil less whacko than psychiatrists...... (a friend is going through something similar... she is off of work due to anxiety and needs very specific paperwork for her job... first for getting paid while off and then so she can go back to work... the doc has: been late, no show for appts, claimed she had appts when she didnt, or didnt when she did, not returned her frantic phone calls, not faxed her paperwork even when reminded more than once, not refilled her scripts, insisted she take medicine that made her sick in the past.... how does this man even keep his job?? it boggles the mind. he seems not just incompetent, but crazy too!)
