how are you doing now?
-
at the end of my street (6 houses) is the most amazing cheesecake bakery in my city. i usually pretend its not there. la la la la. there is also an amazing ny style deli, sushi place, coffee shop, BBQ-bar, artisan chocolate and ice cream shop, and a great sit down restaurant. all in one block. and around the block a tex mex place, italian restaurant and a bar-grill bistro place. luckily no chain restaurants... not that kind of area. but i could eat really good food in this area for two weeks straight without repeating. luckily we are broke and my H is gluten free. so we stay home 99.9% of the time.

may lighting strike me dead if i ever act like this with my kids... i have an 11 year old son who is about 17 pounds overweight. he has a pedometer that syncs with the wii u. i encourage him to move. i encourage him to eat more fruits and veggies and drink water instead of chocolate milk. he is doing well. is getting stronger and loves breaking his own recored with the pedometer. i pray i never act like an ass with him though. or my daughter. who is skinny as a rail right now, but so was i at 7. i hope i am never a parent who "drains" my kids.... i never want to be that parent. -
pleeeeeze girl... we weighed the same when we met, 160. he is 6'2". i am 5'2". he would complain to me... "i am at 175." waaaaa, waaa, waaaaa... i wanted to smack him, since i knew i was pushing 200. then i got up to my high weight 235 and he went gluten free (for health reasons) and lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks....

i love my friend who gets up at 5:30 am and jogs. and drinks green smoothies for breakfast. but before i had my surgery she watched the movie "fat, sick and nearly dead." (about juicing) she was all over that sh*t. "you should do a 40 day juice fast! if this guy can lose 90 pounds juicing you can too!" i was like... "um, if i could live on vegetable juice for 40 days, i wouldnt be 100 pounds overweight dear!" btw, her husband did it, lost 42 pounds and gained it all back in 5 months.

these are all good questions for your nutritionist. as for Protein, for an adult, 2 things are important... lots of Water and dont go over 100 grams a day. i think the psych was likely right, but since you havent done your nutritional counseling, how are you supposed to know? go get your nutritional counseling and then another psych eval. i think you might have put the cart before the horse. -

Why is everything on the pre and post op diet sugar free?
moonlitestarbrite replied to Ariellestarr's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
the research suggests artificial sweeteners actually lead to more weight because of how the body is tricked. its better to wean oneself off of sugar as much as possible. -

i have also found over the years... dietitians are a very conservative type people who tend to enjoy rules and dislike innovation and change. its just the kind of people who are attracted to the job. my hosp is still pushing fat free artificially sweetened products. sugar free kool aid is on the list of stuff to drink after surgery! they are wayyyyyy behind the research on what actually works for people in losing weight and regaining health. meanwhile, people using diets like autoimmune paleo and whole30 are achieving amazing things with really sick people. even just switching people to real food only is making a huge change. but i feel like a lot of people wouldnt have this surgery if they thought they could only drink Water and unsweetened ice tea post op. -

uh. i would go see whomever your surgeon's office uses for psych evals. this guy either doesnt know what he's looking for or he's just biased against wls. my psych never even mentioned actual food consumed. its the nuts job to evaluate my diet, not the psych. (hint, drink only water at your psych eval and nut appt) -

no wonder you are unhappy! did you not get sheets after your surgery? here are the sheets from my center. there is a thread somewhere with links to lots of post op plans. http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/highland/departments-centers/bariatrics/bariatric-diets.aspx good luck... any time you want you can google "bariatric post op diet" or "protein foods." -

what does that mean, "nutritional insight?" a bowl of Cereal or yogurt and an apple isnt going to give you the amount of Protein you need post op. but i would call back and ask for him to be more specific... i have found there are a lot people around here who are still poorly educated about basic nutrition post op. maybe that is what he means? do you have an idea of what you would need to eat post op to get 60-80 grams of protein per day? -

Who eats McDonalds post op?
moonlitestarbrite replied to mi75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am 11 months post op and cannot eat a whole burger bun, even a small one. half is most. i could eat 5-6 fries. more than that, its too greasy. it could make some people dump. many people vomit if they eat fast food. i have not eaten fast food in 20 years... just the thought of it makes me queasy, but that aside, when you are eating as little food as you do post op, you want to make it as high quality and nutritious as possible. that rules out fast food. we all know that. mcdonalds and wls just dont go together. "treats" are a slippery slope. its better to just eliminate trigger foods. -

you may have swallowed too much in each mouthful. try using a smaller spoon and taking smaller mouthfuls. -

moonlitestarbrite replied to Ariellestarr's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
the trick is to minimize added sugar as much as possible. for a lot of people that means artificial sweeteners. for me, i eliminated almost all the sugar from my diet. we dont do artificial sweeteners or stevia here. if we use sweeteners we use honey or maple syrup in small amounts. i also limit fruit, cause even that can be too sweet for me. -
feedback please: yoga for heavy people and/or pre WLS
moonlitestarbrite replied to Pookeyism's topic in Fitness & Exercise
i did yoga for regular people before surgery. i have done yoga for years, so i knew what i was doing and knew a lot of modifications for fat people. i would have loved a "yoga for round people" or "curvy girls" yoga class. i totally would have gone. i usually know more modifications than the instructors. to have that be the other way around would have been great!
