it always makes me chuckle (in total irony) that the places i worked where there was the most and worst food were hospitals and the research institute on addictions. i gained so much weight in these places! its a real problem... my H has food allergies and is constantly confronted with FREE Cookies, donuts, etc. etc. at work. its constant. my daughter has been allergic to red dye since she was a toddler and the amount of PURE JUNK in all her activities and classes is astounding.

i would highly recommend this book: http://www.soundstrue.com/shop/The-Enlightened-Sex-Manual/2996.pd its worth way more than 13$ plus shipping. -
i belong to the JCC (like the Y), but mine has a private spa. for 10$ you can get a pass. so we (my girls) all went to a yoga class, then did the hot tub, sauna, and steam room. then went to the lounge and hung out and had tea, coffee and chocolate. spent the afternoon together, yakked and laughed and had a great time. next year wr are going indoor rock climbing. (my birthday is in jan) one of our girls is moving this summer, we are going to pay someone to come give us all foot massages and someone to do tarot readings. it will still cost us less than dinner out would. and we get to spend time together and yak and hang out.

Fecal Blockage- Warning: TMI Subject
moonlitestarbrite replied to kpay10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am a former LLL leader (breastfeeding support) and this kind of thing isnt all that uncommon with postpartum moms. (for all kinds of reasons) my recommendation is the same.. the problem with most fiber supplements is they require EXTRA Water to actually help. if you dont drink extra water, they can make you worse! so focus on fiber that doesnt require extra fluids; oatmeal, sweet potatoes, apples, lentils. take Probiotics. yogurt and kefir is best, but some prefer a supplement. as much Fluid as you can get in. i take a "konjac" root supplement. its a fiber supplement from a plant that doesnt require extra fluids to work. (i take 2-3 capsules a day) this will be something you need to learn to manage the rest of your life, so stay away from taking any laxatives daily, ad that can make you dependent on them to go. it took me a while to figure it out, one thing i learned.. better to prevent than have to treat. -

even after all this time... struggling with the whole "you eat like a bird"
moonlitestarbrite replied to CowgirlJane's topic in The Gals' Room
there is little difference between "you eat like a bird" and "you eat like a pig." both are judgements about how you are eating. which is a boundary violation. unless someone is an intimate and is actually expressing loving concern about what you are eating... its not anyone's business. but as a former nursing mom and the homeschooling parent of 2 high needs kids... i can personally attest to people's fondness for commenting on things that are none of their business and that they usually know nothing about, to complete strangers. -

moonlitestarbrite replied to CowgirlJane's topic in The Gals' Room
the real issue is, its a boundary violation to comment on what someone else is eating, regardless. this bothers some people, some not. some people are more bothered by it than others. i personally dont give a rats ass about what others say. i know what people say is about them, not me. but to some people, it really bothers them. everyone is different. -

i guess i am not sure what that means, "at that point yet ." again, i dont think this is necessarily about weight, but instead, changing power dynamics in your relationship. a counselor can help with that. the sooner you address it, the sooner your relationship can improve. -

this may actually be more of a marital issue rather than a health issue. have you considered couples counseling? if ones spouse is acting in a way that creates feelings of disgust but they cant discuss it, counseling might be appropriate at that point. esp if one has left over feelings from the past that is influencing the situation. -

he would get what a big deal this is for me. went for my yearly physical today. my lovely PCP closed her practice in feb and i started with this new doc. i have lost 85 pounds since last july. i had major surgery. my medical status has totally changed since summer. did he ask me one single question about my surgery? about my goals? my physical changes? concerns? upsets? NOPE. not. one. single. question. didn't even mention my weight loss. and i have lost 15 pounds since i was last there. he didn't even congratulate me on my loss. not one single word. it baffles me that he cant even see a little bit how big a deal this is for me. how important WLS is in my life. nope, he tried to talk me into a tetanus shot. wtf?? are these doctors so clueless??? my 6 month follow up at the hospital was the same. except the nurses aide raved about my weight loss before she took my blood pressure. i can't believe he offered me so little support for these changes. it's so disappointing and frustrating.

I'm considering having gastric sleeve surgery
moonlitestarbrite replied to laiovyn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
there is no pouch in VSG. a pouch is created out of the stretchy part of the top of the stomach in REY bypass. in VSG the stretchy fundus (top part) and side of the stomach is removed leaving you with the part of the stomach that is not stretchy. (about 80% of the stomach is removed) it results in a stomach roughly the size and shape of a hot dog. hence the name "sleeve." (cause i guess hot dog stomach wouldnt fly!) my doctor discussed possible complications with me very throughly, including GERD. if you are going with the sleeve, choose a doctor that is very experienced in performing it. my doctor does 3-5 a week. some docs do way more bypass and not too many sleeves. better to pick someone who does a lot of them. this minimizes complications. (but certainly doesnt remove the risk) -
my H will take my son to get junk at the corner store in the evening...i dont eat that kind of chocolate or candy. i am a chocolate snob. lol. and the artisan chocolate place is stupid expensive and closes at 6. so win-win for me! i get my super dark chocolate at trade joe's and eat small pieces of that. only time in last year i actually got in my car at 8 oclock at night to drive to get chocolate... i had super bad PMS! took me four days to eat 2 bars. so i think i am doing pretty well, considering. lol i am an impulsive person when it comes to food. that is one reason i got fat. so its good we usually dont have any extra money. what a crazy thing to say! :/
