Beef Jerky anyone?
DonRodolfo replied to hopeliveshere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"Non-offensive"?! I hear the kangaroo jerky is pretty obnoxious, but being Australian that's expected! Beef, buffalo, turkey - either would be a good place to start. -

Beef Jerky anyone?
DonRodolfo replied to hopeliveshere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's almost the perfect on-the-go snack. There's a beef jerky outlet store here I recently discovered that has beef, venison, alligator, elk, kangaroo - all kinds! The only downside to jerky is that it tends to be a little high in sodium. -

What you're gonna notice after losing some weight is that you feel colder in places you were once comfortable.

Had Ethiopian for the first time this past Saturday - OH EM GEE!! I imagine it will be awhile until you're able to have it again as some of it has a bite to it.

After surgery, are you still hungry?

You seem to have nailed all of the points perfectly! -
After surgery, are you still hungry?
DonRodolfo replied to sleeveddoll's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you hold steady and do your two-week pre-op liquid-only diet WITHOUT CHEATING you should not experience the same nasties after surgery that you did when you started the diet. On the fifth day of mine the headaches were gone, I felt good, and I got my energy back and it stayed this way even past surgery. -
Unless you have proof that artificial sweeteners make you gain weight what you've said is just your opinion. I've used artificial sweeteners of many types since surgery, does the weight loss in my ticker below look like I've gained any weight?

Tell them you're doing a modified Atkins plan (you got modified, what and how you're eating now is similar to Atkins).

Right out of surgery: how much walking is enough?
DonRodolfo replied to EarthyGoalie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
, Right now, this soon out from surgery, your two goals are to remain hydrated and get your protein in. If you can only do 5 minutes of walking, just do 5 minutes every day. Try to do a couple of these a day. Worry about walking longer/faster after you feel stronger again. -

Post surgery Protein shake options

Your NUT might be talking about a product like I use called GNC AMP Wheybolic which is marketed along side of GNCs bodybuilding formulas. And it clearly says "not for weight loss use" (as do MANY other brands). I wish I had the opportunity to ask your NUT how I managed to lose 80lbs in 4 months postop using my GNC AMP Wheybolic every morning. My point here is I believe your NUT is trying to get you to buy her brand. -
Meed afvice about a food!
DonRodolfo replied to kim2002's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're going to get different answers with this one. I waited until full foods to try anything spicy - it's possible trying them before that point might irritate your tummy. I'd ask your surgeon for the final word. I haven't had an issue with spicy food. -
Chew 20 to 30 times for each bite until it is the consistency of applesauce or finer. Even scrambled eggs. Don't worry about "how long", the 20-30 chews will cover that. Whatever you're eating should take NO LESS THAN 20 minutes.

There is a DFW group here at VST http://www.verticals...worth-sleevers/ it's mostly quiet, but there is a list available of all the support groups in the DFW area. I *HIGHLY* recommend getting involved in these so that you can get info and share experiences from veterans and new sleevers alike. Some of them are patient-led, some are doctor/hospital/med professional led. The list is here: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/89017-dfw-area-weight-loss-surgery-support-groups-list/

Post a typical day of what you're eating and let's see if anything can be tweaked. -

You lost an average of 4.5lbs a week and you're not happy with it? That is very good weight loss! -
Many people get their Syntrax samples from here: http://bjsbariatrics.com/product/synSamplePack.html Might be worth a look to see if they deliver to the UK.

I really need some support :(
DonRodolfo replied to a_jap21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not beating you up here, but the last thing you need 5 days out is soda crackers and sugar drinks unless your doctor has told you it is okay. For the first two weeks, I was on a full-liquid only plan which certainly didn't include those. I understand that it sucks right now but it will pass. Don't make it worse. -

Does anyone feel like this is just TOO good?
DonRodolfo replied to Mrs.RRn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It makes sense, but don't beat yourself up over it. Instead, be the light and the example that inspires people to strive in their journey. You would be surprised who has eyes on your success right now and how you influence their lives. -
A year ago today I couldn't stand for more than 10 minutes without breaking into a sweat and needing to sit down. Today I finished my first 5K. The fastest guy in my age group finished it in 22 minutes - it took me 4 times as long but I finished it! What made this even more special was being able to walk it with people from my support group for which many was their first 5K as well.
