What will be your fave post sleeve workout you can't do right now?
DonRodolfo replied to Phoenix79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Running a 3k. Then a 5k. I'll at least be doing the 3k by this time next year. On weekends, I happen to go to the gym around the time they are doing Zumba. I know, I know, it's mostly women but it's on my bucket list to try at least once. I want to be in better shape and smaller before I try it. -
Same here, but I've found it's better than just Water in most of the Protein drinks I've tried. 1% tastes a lot better to me.
-
I usually use skim or 1% if skim is not available. The only shakes I've had that are okay with just water are the GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60 chocolate and the Syntrax Fruit and Iced Tea flavored powders.

Welcome - good to have you here!

What are you doing for exercise?

At least for me, getting to the gym IS the battle! Once I'm moving, the more I move the better I feel. When I'm done, I'm so happy I went.

Read the link in my signature "100 Reasons to Work Out Today". Tomorrow walk 10 minutes. The day after, walk 10 minutes. Do this every day. It doesn't have to be fast, it doesn't have to be at a gym (unless you want), but you have to do it every day. Get some music if you think it will help.

DonRodolfo replied to Phoenix79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I *HIGHLY* recommend nasal pillows over the full-face mask or nose cup. It made a world of difference to me. I hated being awakened in the middle of the night because of the squeak of a leak using the nose cup. I find that nasal pillows seal better and stay on no matter how much I move in my sleep. -
I want to start running..... but Im scared!
DonRodolfo replied to Blugirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my first NUT visit, she said "walk 10 minutes a day every day". The first few weeks were hell as I couldn't even stand for 10 minutes without my back aching. I plowed through it and found as it got easier my body wanted to go faster and faster. As johnlatte said, I too love being able to run for 20 minutes without having to stop to catch my breath. Sometimes it's a bear just to get to the gym but I find once I'm done I'm so happy I did it. I cover the treadmill LEDs and let the voice prompt on my heartrate monitor tell me when I'm done (it tells me every 5 minutes). Music: I sometimes run to a metronome but music is a lot more fun when I can find a song that is not too slow or too fast. And when I have time I'll do my own mixes at the speed I want them. -

how to break a stall?
DonRodolfo replied to MK1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GREAT advice here! The only thing I would add is to say try changing whatever you're doing for exercise. If you're a treadmill person, try the elliptical or the stairclimber if you can handle it until your stall breaks. -

I would call him tomorrow and ask - better to find out whether it's an issue or not now than to have him test you later and find out. -

Please don't leave. -
Sorry, forgot to answer these. I would highly recommend one. The simplest ones are not expensive and just tell you your current bpm. Usually they consist of a chest transmitter and elastic band and a receiver that fits on your wrist like a watch. The one I have is a bluetooth transmitter that snaps onto a chest strap that talks to an app on my smartphone. I believe I paid $75 for both the transmitter, strap, and app. I'm on my second Polar device - I've had good luck with both and recommend them. I'm not familiar with other brands and was hoping others could chime in.

(Thanks for posting this! ) So you walk into the gym and step on the treadmill. You press the start button and the belt starts to move. The speed says it's set to 0.5 - is this fast enough for your workout? There's a girl a couple of treadmills over and she looks like she's running pretty fast - should you try to match her? The guy on the treadmill in front of you isn't going as fast as the girl, but he's going faster than you - should you be going as fast as he's going? A heartrate monitor will tell you if you're training at the right intensity for what you're trying to accomplish. You start out by determining your maximum heart rate: subtract 220 minus your age (a 30 year old's maximum heart rate would be 190 (220 -30 = 190). Unless you're training to be a world-class athlete, it is not necessary to work at 90% - 100% of this. The goal for fat loss is 50% to 70% of your maximum heart rate. So for our 30 year old, she's aiming for 90 to 133 beats per minute. You don't have to worry about the math as you'll plug in your age to the device and it'll tell you where you are. Here is a chart that might help (click on it to enlarge)
