    Stall ....

Depends on a whole boatload of reasons. I have found that doing something different helped break mine. If you're not doing well on hydration, hydrate more. If you're not exercising, start. If you are, increase duration, intensity, or even do something different for awhile. If you're exercising like a fiend, cut back. Up your Protein. Up your calories and possibly fat and carbs as well (or cut back on all three). My surgeon said a stall is if you don't lose weight AND don't lose inches or gain weight and gain inches within a six-week period.

    Ursodiol ?

That's about the time I got them and had to take them for 4 months for that reason. Dosage was different I think.

  5. people are holding this book up as one more reason WLS doesnt work. because, clearly, everyone who has the surgery is just like jan larson. now i am not saying its only a tiny number of people who are like her. because there are plenty of people who have WLS who never once look at their food/self esteem issues beforehand. but, really, instead of saying, "yeah, this horrible culture of worshipping the underweight woman leads to many many people believing that losing weight will make them happy," they say.... "see, WLS doesnt work and is bad for you." its really annoying. and dont read the article, which emphasizes only one aspect of the book, but read her book. it clearly shows that losing weight and recovery from food addiction/morbid obesity are totally different things. My point in posting that was not to demonstrate that WLS doesn't work. The article itself, without the book, does a good job of showing that a person can have expectations that will not be fulfilled by having surgery.

    *Gastric sleeve diet* (without surgery)

You should put this on my thread! Done!
  7. Not that Laura's wisdom needs anything added to it but I find this article compliments it well and should be required reading for anyone contemplating WLS: Woman Loses 180 Pounds & Is Bitterly Disappointed With the Resultshttp://thestir.cafemom.com/healthy_living/152848/woman_loses_180_pounds_is
  8. Stealing a few from y'all (I'll add some later if I think of more) Trying to move about during the day instead of sitting at my desk for most of the day Drinking constantly to meet my Water intake goal Eating slower like we're supposed to. I still eat too fast (and scarf down food if it's been too long since the last meal) Eliminate grazing I need to compile a collection of easy to prepare bariatric-friendly recipes. I rely entirely too much on eating out and leftovers. As a result of WLS and too much cardio, I am a skinny fat person. I need to add weight training to my week without compromising my running goals (faster 5k, do a 10k in 2014, half-marathon in 2015).

    *Gastric sleeve diet* (without surgery)

Saw this article this morning and immediately thought of you. This should be required pre-surgery reading for every WLS patient and I wish I would have seen it 30 years ago before I tried to starve myself. http://thestir.cafemom.com/healthy_living/152848/woman_loses_180_pounds_is

The veterans in this thread who have shared their experiences with you have sacrificed so much in their lives, trying to lose weight and have endured immeasurable hardships to get to the point where they are today. They have families that have sufferered alongside of them in their journey. These people who have shown concern for you and have taken time out of their lives to advise you are supposed to be okay with you saying "if you just put your mind into something you can do just about anything" and "If I follow this diet plan I can lose as much as anyone else"? Do you not see how insulting this is? You don't understand why people are being hostile or negative towards you? I understand you can't afford the surgery right now. In the meantime do a lot of reading, ask a lot of questions, adjust your attitude and don't assume for a second you know something about losing weight that we don't. We've been where you are, but you don't know what you think you do about where we are. Lastly, if you want things sugar-coated for you this is probably not a good place for you.

    To all veterans...

I am 7 months out with 171 pounds lost. It is not my intent to brag but to establish who I am and from where I came and where I am. Inside I feel I am the same person I was this time last year at 416 pounds. I am in disbelief daily when I look at the size tag on my pants and shirts or when I see a 12:30 pace or 4 miles completed on the treadmill. I get complimented often and it feels like they're talking about someone else. I am a little uncomfortable with having my picture taken these days but not as much as before. I look in the mirror and love what I see in clothes but not so much in the nude with the skin sagging. I have judgmental thoughts of other WLSers who I see eating unhealthy but i would never express anything openly as I am reminded often of the food addict that I still am. I don't see people the same way. When I lost a whole bunch of weight about 30 years ago I remember having contempt for people that were obese. Having gained twice the weight I lost and more before surgery has a way of humbling you. Now I feel pity and sadness for them and i remember vividly how i felt at their size. I never really socialized before surgery so I find myself in more social situations these days and I am VERY uncomfortable around people i don't know. Through a local WLS support group I have met an incredible group of people whom I now consider friends. I love being with them and hanging out with them. More than being told how good I look I enjoy being told that I'm inspiring someone in their journey, even in the smallest way. I will go out of my way to be encouraging to someone who is struggling although I may not always notice without a bright neon sign for me. This is not a result of WLS but one of my many personality flaws. I hope i have answered your questions.

    Orange Juice...

If you're squeezing oranges yourself that's certainly better than from concentrate but I'm thinking you should be hydrating with Water or something comparable (Powerade Zero is my favorite). Your surgeon has the final word - you should call for this one.

Hi. My name is Carlos. I was sleeved on 5/28/13. While not by Dr. Nicholson, I know people that were. I highly recommend getting involved with one of the local DFW groups - you will find support.
