Transitioning to regular foods?
DonRodolfo replied to Miss Piggy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're probably going to get some great advice from the others but here's a thought: why not go back and try some of the foods you may have tried earlier that you didn't tolerate well back then? -

Im home...now what?
DonRodolfo replied to AutismMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
An incentive spirometer is a medical device used to help patients improve the functioning of their lungs. It is provided to patients who have had any surgery that might jeopardize respiratory function, particularly surgery to the lungs themselves,[1] but also commonly to patients recovering from cardiac or other surgery involving extended time under anesthesia and prolonged in-bed recovery. The incentive spirometer is also issued to patients recovering from rib damage to help minimize the chance of Fluid build-up in the lungs. It can be used as well by wind instrument players, who want to improve their air flow. The patient breathes in from the device as slowly and as deeply as possible, then holds his/her breath for 2-6 seconds. This provides back pressure which pops open alveoli. It is the same maneuver in a yawn. An indicator provides a gauge of how well the patient's lung or lungs are functioning, by indicating sustained inhalation vacuum. The patient is generally asked to do many repetitions a day while measuring his or her progress by way of the gauge. On the right-hand side there is a tube with a mouthpiece that flips down. You have to inhale through the tube until that blue disk at the bottom reaches a preset determined at the hospital. You're supposed to inhale at a rate that keeps the little blue bead between the two arrows. It's quite the task. -
Im home...now what?
DonRodolfo replied to AutismMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd start the day with a Protein drink. I would sip (not drink not gulp) on it until it was finished. I was able to get more in faster as the days went by. Then I got my bottle of Water, my 1oz shot glass, and the log they gave me to fill out. The log has the time on it in 15 minute increments so I would do half a shot and check it off on the log. I also did my incentive spirometer 5 times on the hour and half hour. It took effort and time. I'd also get up and walk as often as I could remember. -

What does caffeine do?
DonRodolfo replied to Linkin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never really had issues getting enough fluids after surgery so I went straight for my quad espresso at work. Sleevie Ray Vaughn did not like that much at one time so we've agreed that doubles were okay - again only because I get enough fluids in per day. -
Where does everyone buy their protein shakes?
DonRodolfo replied to marfar7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a fan of Syntrax Nectar (the fruity flavors) - I like them because I can mix them with Water. My favorite is GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60 chocolate - I mix it with fat-free milk but it's the only brand of chocolate that is okay with water. I also like unjury Chocolate Splendor but I will only mix it with milk. As for the unflavored, I use Unjury but you have to be careful not to mix it into anything that is over 140 degrees or it will clump. -
Happy Birthday to you, sorry you're having to spend it there. It'll all get better, you'll see.

Somehow I thought you'd say something like this and I'm glad you did. I'll keep what you said in mind. What did you encounter that made you believe the numbers above for men?

May sleeverss ONLY !
DonRodolfo replied to kristyyy21's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sleeved May 28 here. I am supposed to be on soft foods right now - mostly it's chili, refried Beans, and (still) lots of Protein shakes (they're so convenient). Seem to do okay with bananas, but only a half at a time. I've also had egg salad, chicken salad, and some egg salad avocado smush (recipe that someone here posted). I made a scrambled egg the second day of soft foods and made the mistake of eating the entire egg - it hurt. Later, I tried lentil Soup and didn't stop at half a cup like I should have - it hurt worse than the egg. Sleevie Ray Vaughn also reminded me that Trisquits, no matter how well chewed, are not soft food by keeping me bent over in pain for the better part of an hour. My surgeon said I could have tilapia so the other night at Applebees I did. I could only finish half of the tilapia but none of the veggies or the roasted potatoes. We went to a Mexican restaurant before that and I had the inside of a soft taco (barbacoa) and about a spoonful of beans and that's all I could handle. Forget the rice, I gave that to my wife. -
I used Isopure RTD during my clear liquid phase - it was also one of the two drinks they gave me at the hospital. Remember to only drink half the bottle as 40g of protein is more than our bodies can take in at one time. I would continue to use it as a meal replacement but not for every meal every day. You're right about it not being very filling tho, never thought of that.

how do you have spicy stuff without water?
DonRodolfo replied to ********'s topic in Food and Nutrition
Water is a joke for relieving the burn. What you want is milk because it washes the oil off of your tongue. You can build up a tolerance for spicy food, you just have to keep eating it. -

Does surgery = Money savings?
DonRodolfo replied to megancd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would definitely say so. One restaurant order usually results in 2 (sometimes 3) meals in leftovers. My wife started taking home more leftovers as a result of me doing it. -
Now i have to work out even harder!? Wah!
DonRodolfo replied to amytug's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Um, yeah Amy, sorry, I guess I should have mentioned that. You're gonna burn less calories at a lower weight than you did when you were heavier. The more you lose, the faster/more intense you'll have to work. I got reminded of this just recently - when I was over 400lbs I was burning 100 calories every 5 minutes at moderate intensity. Now I'm only burning 80 or so. However, I'm seeing benefits now that I wasn't then so that's something. -
Ever been called fat by a kid?
DonRodolfo replied to a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I could send you a hug - kids are little reflections of their parents and some of them are assh*les. Besides, you being fat is temporary. -
Unjury chocolate splendor or classic?

Of course you do! (sorry - in a silly mood today)
