What is it like when you wake up from surgery?
DonRodolfo replied to nickig2g's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was surprised to wake up and not be in pain. Worst I felt was a gas-like pain in my abdomen that wouldn't go away. They offered me pain meds, I took them, and it was all good. No pain at all from any of the incisions, but felt like a Saint Bernard with the On Q ball pouch around my neck. It's an anesthetic ball that has two tubes that go into your belly for pain. When the ball deflates, you pull the tubes out of you. Odd but not painful. No catheters but did have an IV line they used to inject medicine and such. By the time they wheeled me from recovery to my room, I was feeling a little groggy but great. I was walking laps around the nurses station about an hour later. -
3 months post op and stalled
DonRodolfo replied to acampbell1318's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are either of you measuring yourselves? If so, are you losing inches? If you are losing inches you are not stalled. -
First support group meeting
DonRodolfo replied to slocin12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looks like we're in the same area - did they hand out this list at the meeting you attended? http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/259587-dfw-area-weight-loss-surgery-support-groups-list/ Congrats on the door prize! -
how often to eat
DonRodolfo replied to hopeful2 be slim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
35g of Protein will stall your weight loss. At your point in the journey, it's all about getting that protein in and hydrating. I eat 6 times a day, sometimes 7 (these are small meals). You MUST plan your meals out and bring enough food to last you through your workday - it's what I have to do. If you have to supplement with Protein shakes to get that protein up then do so. I use Syntrax nectar at 100 cals 21g of protein. It's what I have first thing in the morning when I wake up and after going to the gym. -
Not only does it get easier but it could become, brace yourself, enjoyable! This time last year I was in the vicinity of 400lbs - yesterday I ran 6.5 miles. If the C25K gets too tough, do NOT hesitate to take it slower but get to that goal. The first time I ran 5K on the treadmill I cried lol! EDIT: This popped up on my Facebook timeline right after I posted the above: http://www.runnersworld.com/beginners/top-10-newbie-training-tips?cm_mmc=Facebook-_-RunnersWorld-_-Content-Training-_-Top10NewbieTips

DonRodolfo replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
How many of that groups meetings have you been to? Are you aware that they also do weekend walks, many of the local 5k/10k/half-marathons in the area, and other fitness activities? Have you been to any of the other groups in the DFW area? -
How many sizes have you dropped?!?
DonRodolfo replied to rensterness's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This time last year I was wearing a 62 x 30 pants and a 5x shirt. As I type this, I'm wearing a 40 x 30 pants and 2x shirt. -
OUCH, OUCH, OUCH! Did I eat too fast?
DonRodolfo replied to HumanMerelyBeing's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate the EXACT same thing I ate yesterday around the same time but wasn't paying attention today and had this experience because I wasn't paying attention and ate too fast. -
I am 51, was sleeved at 50. I've lost 188lbs as I type this and made the mistake of looking at my backside in the mirror. :-( That being said I am healthier, more active, and no longer taking high blood pressure or diabetes meds. A couple days ago I bought the first 1X shirt since the early 1990s. I'll live with the loose skin until it causes me medical issues.

Gurgling stomach normal?
DonRodolfo replied to Domika03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had my gurgling stomach wake me up from a nap! lol Unless it's accompanied by discomfort or issues, it's normal and happens to lots of us. It doesn't necessarily mean hunger. -
When did u start to exercise?
DonRodolfo replied to Suko75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was walking almost immediately after surgery - laps around the nurses station. I was on the treadmill one week after surgery. Not killing it, but a nice walk. -

How soon did you drive after surgery?
DonRodolfo replied to Noor1969's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
1 week to the day - I drove myself to my one week followup. It was more an issue of being off the liquid hydrocodone for 24 hours than anything else. -
Most flexible fitness monitor on the market today?
DonRodolfo replied to 2Big2Skate's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Wearing a strap is the price you pay for accuracy. I'm a Polar fan, DigiFit runs on my (Android) smartphone. A little over a month ago I started using a FitBit force and they work great together (I would trust calories burned as noted by my Polar over what FitBit says, however). -
What's are you doing about clothes?
DonRodolfo replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
People suggested going to Goodwill to get clothes while losing weight and I was skeeved out when i first heard this (wearing used clothes? ick!). After spending $100+ on pants only to have to replace them a month and a half later I went to Goodwill . After awhile I was able to fit into clothes at Wal-Mart so I get stuff from there too now. I'll save the designer clothes for after i get to goal. -
Getting nervous due to all the comments I am hearing
DonRodolfo replied to Buckfever53's topic in The Guys’ Room
I had surgery on a Tuesday at 11am and was leaving the hospital the next day around the same time so it's possible. You'll want to ask your surgeon to be sure as he probably has his own criteria for releasing you. -
The thinspiration meeting was wonderful! Several new faces and most of us regulars. TOTALLY worth the drive from Forney to Frisco!
