i hardly ever had heartburn until after getting sleeved. That being said, i started taking the PPI again that I was taking before surgery and it's helped some. i may need to ask for a different PPI. For the record - I *STILL* don't regret having surgery.

My suggestion? Keep up the good work!

Has anyone actually purchased/used a sippy cup?
DonRodolfo replied to pinkowl00's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As I understand it, there is not a lot of functionality built into the phone app to make changes to your profile. You'll have to do it from your PC, unless someone knows something I don't (which is completely possible). -
How was the hangover? I haven't had alcohol yet.

So far, not loving my sleeve

Listen, there are enough of us in the dysfunctional weigh yourself everyday club, we are not looking for new members. You are torturing yourself needlessly by doing that. Commit to weighing once a week AND NO MORE! You're a week and a half out and wondering why you're still on full liquids? I was on full liquids for two weeks and lots of people around here don't get to full liquids until they've done 2 weeks of Clear Liquids after surgery! Slow down please, there's no fire. Fantastic job on the protein, the fluids, and especially the walking. Keep up the good work! It's gonna be okay, hang in there! -

Are you using the phone app or a computer? -
I believe the correct term for me to use here is "yowza"! Well done - you look amazing.

Lapband wasn't an option and gastric bypass looked way too complex and I didn't want to deal with malabsorption issues. Sleeve was the only way to go for me and I'd do it again in a heartbeat INCLUDING the two-week preop liquid only diet.

Hi Amanda - welcome! Not mincing words here, but you said GB twice in your post. I assume this means "gastric bypass" - you realize that this is a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy board and these are two different procedures? The people who frequent this board are mostly pre or post op Sleeve Gastrectomy folks. Anyway, I'll try to answer your questions: How long did it take to get everything completed for surgery? I started the process in January of this year with a "meet your surgeon" visit. Insurance required 3 months of Nutritionist visits (also called "supervised weight loss) where I could lose weight, or stay the same, but under no circumstances gain or I could lose coverage. My surgery was May 28. What types of medical testing was required? It was required that I have a cardiac clearance so I had to have an EKG and some sort of ultrasound done on my heart. It was maybe an hour visit and I was cleared. I also had to have a psych eval. Again another one hour visit that seemed pretty routine. I had to have about 12 vials of blood drawn the week before surgery for presurgery labs. What kind of diet are you on pre op? I had no prescribed diet beforehand except the two-week preop liquid only diet and Clear liquids the day before. Other people here had different requirements than I did as you will see.

Oh good! -
you want to consult with your doctor on this BUT i take a multi first thing in the morning and one right before bed. I take a 500mg calcium citrate first thing in the morning, one at midday, and one before bed i take a 500mcg B-12 sublingual first thing in the morning.

Wouldn't using a sippy cup be pretty much the same as using a straw? Some folks were advised against using straws to avoid getting air taken in with each sip. -
I'm imagining ham salad the same consistency of chicken or tuna salad - not sure i'd want it any other way.

Has Anyone Managed To Keep Surgery Completely Private?
DonRodolfo replied to bettyboo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started out wanting to tell no one - I learned who the bigmouths were in my life very quickly! Fortunately, everyone that has found out has been really supportive. -
I was on soft foods at 3 weeks, OP might be as well.

That really is a reflection on who he is and not at all who you are. You're worked hard to get to where you are now - we here understand it, we've been through it, and we get it. He's an outsider, he may never get it but that's not your problem. You keep doing what you're doing - sooner than you realize they'll be asking for a date instead of how pregnant you are.

Remember that scene from Aliens where the creature pops out of... Just kidding - I had egg salad/chicken salad at 3 weeks out, but I'm just some yahoo on the internet. Ask your doctor for the final word.

I have an android app called "Tom's Multi timer" > I created two timers, one for 2.5 hours and another for 30 minutes. after I eat, i set the two off at the same time When the 30 minute one goes off, I know i can drink Water. when the other one goes off, I know it's time to either eat or have a Protein shake. I eat then repeat.

What's the pain like?
DonRodolfo replied to Melissa1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i woke from surgery with no pain but what felt like a persistent gas cramp. They saw i was uncomfortable and offered me pain meds. I took them and they helped immensely. I felt the most discomfort in the recovery room. I was cracking jokes as they wheeled me to my room. in a few days that pain turned into what felt like the soreness of having done too many situps the day before. i was given liquid hydrocodone to take home and that helped too. i started out only being able to drink half an ounce of Water every 15 minutes but was quickly drinking 1 ounce and more in a few days. Edit: forgot to mention, I had NO issues with my incisions and no pain from them. I did have one of those medicine balls (i forget the name) YMMV but the root canal I had years earlier was a worse experience. -
