Today I am regretting the heck out of wearing jeans that have been sitting in the back of my closet for over 10 years. Kidding. There could be complications. There could be excess skin. In my situation, it was worth the risk. I have a list of reasons I hated being fat. Only you can decide if it's worth the risk for you.

I use the adult liquid (CVS brand actually but whatevs). That would be my recommendation.

OMG those are ridiculously delicious!

i had to look that up! First ingredient listed is "Calcium Carbonate" and no mention of calcium citrate anywhere else.

You waited? (My patient manual says "as soon as you feel ready" ) -
taking medications post op
DonRodolfo replied to birdmadgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had to cut/crush my meds the first few weeks. i could take them whole after that. If it's the only one you take, cutting it might be okay (check with your doc to make sure it's okay to do this with this med and for how long). -
Not Sure I Do This
DonRodolfo replied to Andrew0929's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i started out with a BMI in the 60s. i'm 7 weeks out and no issues so far with leaks. -
That applies if your multi has Iron, right? Mine doesn't and I take them at the same time.

I got a bottle of liquid hydrocodone. What a unicorn-filled week that was. (kidding, I used the liquid hydrocodone for a week and was able to use liquid tylenol after that for pain)

If you are able to tolerate pills get capsules. I prefer to stick to chewables myself and take the Celebrate brand.

i had allergies too during my liquid-only 2 week preop diet. Sorry, it's gonna get worse. But by day 5 you will feel right as rain. take some liquid tylenol for the headaches and drink that water!

Why does "why" matter so much? And who here is going to judge you for not being strong enough to do it on your own and having 85% of your stomach cut out? Isn't this why we we all had it done? Wasn't it the last resort for most of us? i proved I can lose 50 lbs without weight loss surgery, I did it preop and I did it years before. what I can't do is keep it off on my own. the sleeve gives me the advantage now. I won't let anyone tell me i'm weak or took the easy way out because that's simply ignorant. Don't let anyone (or yourself) tell you that either. We're YOUR people and we get it, so keep us around maybe!

Pleasure to meet you Jess. The worst part for me was the first 4 days of the 2 week preop liquid only diet. i was hungry, angry, fighting allergies, and wanted to sue people. On the 5th day I woke up feeling better than before the diet. The first hour out of surgery was uncomfortable as I had a gas pain that wouldn't go away. They saw my discomfort, offered me pain meds, I took them and was joking with people as they wheeled me to my room. i was discharged around 11am the next day. Advice? Right now, start sampling different Protein shakes to see which ones you like. Don't go nuts, but stock up on a few liquid Proteins before surgery so you don't have to worry about going out and getting them the first few days. Right now, start learning how not to drink with meals. Eat your meal and wait 30 minutes before you drink anything. This takes a little practice. Right now, learn how to chew each bite 20-30 times. Stop eating at 20 minutes or when you get bored, whichever comes first. Shop for and start taking your Multivitamins, Calcium citrate, b-12, etc.

Is the Dumping Syndrome?
DonRodolfo replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad to hear you're better. Hathery posted a story of her dumping episode a few weeks ago (?) that sounds similar to yours. I think it's more common for bypass patients but it happens to some of us as well. -

Perhaps I should have been clearer. I used my CPAP for 6 years before surgery and am still using it afterwards although I think the pressure needs to be adjusted downwards. I don't mind it and if you told me I had to use it for the rest of my life I'd probably be okay with it. What would be nice is to be able to lay flat in a bed and not have to sleep in a recliner. That day is coming!

The two-week preop diet was worse than the surgery! Seriously, for me the first hour in recovery was the worst. I had this gas pain that wouldn't go away. They saw I was in discomfort, offered me pain meds, and I took them. By the time they were wheeling me to my room I was laughing and joking with my wife and the guy pushing me. I never had any issues with my incisions and all in all, I'd do it again in heartbeat.

Some motivation please
DonRodolfo replied to Tv22120's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Self-imposed two-week preop liquids-only diet. Remember the misery of the first few days the next time you put a carb or a food with refined sugar in your hands. And definitely what Kelly said, start tracking your intake. -
