Sleeved today 5-13-13

Update: I am 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I am down 31 lbs and have some issues with weakness. Every day I seem just a little better. I am eating fish, some lunch meats, scrambled eggs, imitation crab meat, tuna fish. I have some belly pain in my muscles if I do a lot of things around the house but that is improving as well. It's hard to get in all the protein without shakes so I supplement with them and I have to have a bottle of water with me most of the time or I won't get my 64 oz in. How is everyone else doing? I wish you all the quickest of recoveries and the smoothest of roads. If there are bumps , may you have the strength and perseverence to hang in there till it passes. -

Best Wishes for all those just done or about to be. Update on me, now 1 Week 4 Days post sleeve and hernia repair. I mowed the lawn and cleaned the kitchen up. Life is getting back to normal slowly. I did have considerable pain from a hiatal hernia repair that prevented me from using my cpap the first 6 days post op but that subsided and now am pain free. The sleeve part never hurt. I am eating the shakes, mashed taters, thinned soups and yogurts with no difficulties at all. Down 23.5 lbs so far. If you have difficulty your first week keep you spirts up, it will improve soon. -
I asked my sugeon. He told he used a 40 but not to draw comparisons with other surgeons preferences. Size of the bougie is one facet of the sugery but how it is used makes a huge difference. My guy leaves the bougie in place and then fires his staple line right up against it. He told me some docs prefer a smaller bougie and then staple off of it. Some even take out the bougie before stapleing to take out the chance of stapleing the bougie itself. He said the final size of the stomach is a result of size and stapleing technique.

I know what you mean but don't sweat it too much. My catheter came out this motnong as did the O2. Besides being a liitle sleepy and mildly light headed when sitting up from laying down I am good. The worry before is worse than the first days, at least it was for me. -

Who knows why he picked that? We are not privy to his medical history nor should we be. I wish him well. I have enough faith in my MD and in my decisions not to feel I need to put a neg spin on someone else's decision when it differs from my own couse of action. Even if he is a blowhard politician. -
I like the Jif natural as it has no trans fats which many Peanut butters have.

I was wondering what experience those who used a cpap pre-sleeve have had post operatively in respect to cpap use. Do you still need it or were you able to sleep well without it? I use a cpap now, am waiting on ins approval.
-
I have never used an auto cpap myself. I think it's great you've lowered your pressures and know you're pushing to get off it it all together. I don't mind my cpap as I feel better with it than without it but I'd love not to have the marks on my face or the occasional rollover that kinks the hose and about torques my nose off my face.

I had my pre op visit today with Dr. Yoo and his team and then at the hospital for the usual tests. 3 weeks from yesterday. A little nervous, more excited than anything. Have lost a few pounds just with the tips they gave me and now it's the homestretch to shrink that liver a little.

Need help from men that have been sleeved
becogolfer replied to Harpo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you don't submerge your incisions you might try sitting in a shallow warm bath. My uro recommended that for me and it helped. -
I would advise the urologist as well. There are lots of possible causes and lots of treatments but you need a specialist to sort it out. My last gp always blew off my complaints but my new gp had me go see the urologist. A few tests later I was getting the right rx and my fears were relieved. The worst diagnosis is no diagnosis because you end constantly worying about what it might be. Thats my advice, that and find a uro with skinny fingers.

How is it going with the retun to work just1girl? I work as a physical therapist and am not sure if 4 weeks will be enough time. -
I am in Raleigh. I am waiting on insurance approval and then my work schedule to lighten. I am hoping by May. I am planning on vsg by Dr. Yoo at Duke. I have not been real good about pre op diet because it seems so unreal not knowing when it will be. Also, i never was real good at dieting, hence the need for the vsg. Would love to have a mentor, hope in a year i can be one.

I have not had my surgery yet but have played since I was young . I think if you start with the fundamentals such as grip, stance, posture and tempo you will learn to swing well with your new and still changing body. Taking a few lessons would be great too as you can have some guidance on what you specifically should be working on during your range sessions. Ii think the biggest istake most make is not practicing with a purpose. I hope you enjoy your golf more in your new bod. BC

I am likely getting a sleeve once I jump through enough hoops. I can't walk very much or my leg hurts. Has anyone found that now they have much less knee and leg pain and can walk without pain now?
