Kidney Stones-Only 1 Month Post-Op
becogolfer replied to StefanieT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mark, how long did it take to get rid of your stone? I woke up at 4 thinking I had a strained low bak on the right side. By 7 it felt like the back and the right groin. By 730 I started vomiting. I had not vomited once since the surgery so this was scary. I didn't have anything in there so it was just dry heaving. The ER doc and staff were great and the iv torodol, anti nausea meds and the morphine were awesome. Now home the back is much better but the groin remains. I am wonding how long it takes to pass a stone and I've been reading that high protein diets can play a role in the formation of kidney stones. Is there a good way around this? I do think that over the past few days I had not hydrated as well as I have been. -

Sushi at almost 4 weeks post op ;,(
becogolfer replied to muneca1029's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I was told no sushi or sashimi till my 3 month check with my nutritionist. The reason. given was there is cooncern that raw fish can have parasites that a normal stomach can handle with enough acid. After 3 months it is safe i was told. I just ate sashimi for the first time this past sat. I had half an avacado salad with 9 thin sashimi pieces. The restaurant was so great about it. My wife and i were regulars before surgery. The gave me 4 oz of sashimmi instead of just a number of pieces. I only at 3 oz and had the remainder as a snack later. Delicious protein. -
Mine is size 38 inch pants and xl shirts. Next up will be the size 36 inch pants.woohoo. i love the way I eat now!!!

I met with my nutritionist and surgeon this week. They were extremely pleased with my weight loss especially given my lack of muscle loss. I asked what they thought about having a slice of pizza. Each said that if i got in my protein. (70 gms) and water for the day it was fine. My doc also said that having the occasional indulgence was in his opinion a better habit than trying to be perfect all the time. This was of course with the caveat that i was keeping up with everything else. The 2x i had a slice i lost weight that week and met all my goals as well. I think everyone is different. but check out what your healthcare team thinks about it and be a little leary of others on any forum whose opinions maybe moreinfluenced by their own fears of how theyare doing than on any studies ormedical practice such as your bariatric doc and their team.

Difficult question to ask.
becogolfer replied to MinnesotaDreaming52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had no problems in that regard . I have heard that dumping is much common with roux n. Y than with a sleeve. My surgeon does both procedures and in explaining diffrences he never mentioned what your friend said -
Irreversible damage? I would doubt it. You probably have lost more muscle than you would have if you had gotten more Protein. When we don't eat carbs to make sugar in the blood then we have to break down protein and fat for fuel. The only problem is that the brain can't use fat as a fuel so you will use what protein you eat for fuel for the brain. If you 're not eating enough protein during the time when you're certainly not eating many carbs then you were breaking down muscle to fill the brains needs for fuel. Talk with your NUT about it but if you're not having some other symptoms and have corrected the amount of protein you take in per day I'd think you'll be fine in the long run. Lesson learned right? Hang in there!

I have been playing every weekend since I was 1 month out so that's about 2 months now. At first I was really weak and I had lost about 40 -50 yards off my driver and was 2-3 clubs shorter. I didn't have any pain. Over the course of the first month back my distance worked it's way back. I did have some issues with some pain in my mid back that I think came from my being able to make a good turn back and through for the first time in many years. With weight loss that is as quick as it can be in the initial stages of the sleeve I think the body goes through so much change and the flexibility that we see improving might allow us to make moves to the ball that we can't really handle right away. Over the past 3 weeks now that mid back pain is gone, my handicap is back to where it was pre op (2) and my only problem is now I am hitting the ball 1+ club longer with the irons and about 10 yards more with the driver. I was worried that losing weight would rob me of my game, now I think I'm going to see it will prolong how long I can play the game and likely I'll improve as my fitness level improves. Best wishes to all who are losing weight and getting back out on the course. Hit em straight!

I did finally try a slice of pizza. I ate the whole slice crust and all. I felt fine but I was full and very satisfied. I am not saying that because I want to glamorize eating pizza. It was good, but I did not feel like I used to when I got pizza. I used to eat 3 large NY slices for one thing. I did eat a very healthy rest of the day and for the week actually as well. I lost 2.1 lbs this week even after that slice. I didn't get the surgery so that I couldn't eat, just so I could exercise better portion control. I now think of what I am eating, how much of it I am eating and if it's not something that's terribly healthy for me I judge if it's worth it and what I need to do to balance it out like exercising more or making sure I'm eating healthy as a whole. So, if anyone was wondering, I did have a slice, it was tasty and I still lost more weight this week.

You will get an idea what different percentages look like but keep in mind that for females the 'normal' range is higher than for males for many reasons including that many female hormones require a certain amount of fat to be present.

26 lbs lost in 2 weeks
becogolfer replied to dustin551's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Awesome job! It will just get better. I lost really quickly but felt weak so at 4 weeks i was told to eat more. I still lose 1.5 to 2 lbs a week while eating food again. It just keeps getting better.. -
Been there but as time passes I am much better about not too much or too fast. Hang in there. I still eat while watching tv and have made it work for me. In a 1/2 hour show i eat and try to make it last the whole show. When i eat at the table it can be boring and i get tempted to eat more quickly. Whatever works but those underlying principles remain. Best wishes.

Orange urine could be just concentrated if you are dehydrated. It could also be a urinary tract infection. Since that will not go away on its own you probably should go see a doc and get checked out.

I didn't tell and neither did my friend not even to me.......need advice
becogolfer replied to Beach Lover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should do what you are comfortable with. If you are not comfortable with disclosing you had a wls then you could just say you are watching what and how much you eat. That's no lie because it is the basis for your weightloss. You have no obligation to tell others or to have to justify you decisions. -
I am a physical therapist for 28 years. I am about 13 weeks out and about 60 lbs down. The more I lose the more active I am. I really am relearning how to eat and it just keeps getting better.

I know what you mean. Just beccause someone is overweight doesn't mean they are lazy, slow witted or bad at their job. There are even people on this forum who will even say that they won't go to a salesperson or doctor is overweight. How silly is that?

Hours away, but why
becogolfer replied to muneca1029's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will do great. There is no free ride but it really isn't bad. Wait till you are walking, feeling lighter and putting on smaller clothes. It is great. Remember you are going to be fine!!!! -
Good luck. Any pain or difficulties you might have will temporary. This sleeve i have now is awesome. You'll do great.

Best greek yogurt? Any one's blood sugar ever dropped a little?
becogolfer replied to nikkijane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the dannon light and fit. 15 gm pro and only 80 cal. Mandarin orange segments , applesauce and peaches were good for a few carbs. Good luck! -
You might try eating some protein like chicken with cheese etc. You can't hold too much and it will keep away the hunger for a few hours. You might need to eat 5-6 meals a day but if they are small and protein you should do great. It's your new way of eating. I have 5 or 6 meals a day but the are small and it keeps me from getting too hungry. Remember that many carbs will spike your hunger and are often sliders, a no no.

I think not gulping is really good advice. At 12 weeks i still have discomfort if i take too much in one swallow.

It's all good. Fast or slow just keep at it!!! -
Celebrate makes very good vitamins. You can get them with or without iron depending on your needs. you can order them online. You may want to check with your doc as to whether or not you need a liquid vitamin for the initial period after surgery.( my doc. had me do that for 3 weeks and i was glad when that ended)
