How do you deal with head hunger??
Banded Bob replied to MissMom24's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
this is something all of us go through I think. I was really commited at first and lost 100 pounds within the first year. then I had to have an unfill and it has since been a big struggle. I regained 20 punds and am stuck there. everyday I start out saying "today I'm gonna get back on track" and sometimes it works for a day or two. but then temptation gets the best of me and I backslide. it really is like an addiction. but how do we overcome an addiction that we can't give up totally? we have to eat, its not like smoking or drinking where we can totally give it up. so the only advice I can give is when tempted, think about what you've gone through to get to this point. we've had surgery to help us lose weight. most of us view this as a last resort. is that cookie ect. worth risking failure? something else that works for me is to put a "fat" pic of myself on the fridge. seeing myself like that is a BIG deterrent to going into the fridge for a snack. the best advice though is to find something else to occupy your mind. when you find yourself being tempted, go for a walk or find something to do to get your mind off of your enemy. -
anyone have any tips on boosting metabolism? I was banded 10/2/06. I lost 100 pounds in a year. then I tried for one too many fills (some of you know what that means, yuk) so I had to have an unfill. I promptly regained twenty pounds and became angry and depressed. I have since had two fills and am where I need to be but the weight is not coming off very quickly. I am walking every day and hitting the gym three times a week but have only lost a couple pounds. I think my body has adjusted to eating less. I am tired and cold all the time. like I have gone into starvation/hibernation mode. are there any foods or supplements that will boost my metabolism? I really need to see some results as I'm scared the depression will return if I don't and I cannot fail. I've come too far, worked too hard and been through too much.

a guy where I work started the preop diet last week. on sunday he threw a blood clot and died! they said that major changes in eating habits can cause this?!? shouldn't doctors warn of this? this is the first I'd heard of this even being a possibility.

no details but I guess an existing clot broke loose. guess it could've happened anyway, but I was told the change in eating habit was a contributing factor.

is it that some foods seem to go right through? I was adjusted yesterday for the second time after an unfill. this morning I had some scrambled eggs wich sat in the pouch like they should have. I was elated, as it's the first time the band has worked in months. then for dinner tonight I had a grilled chicken salad. I kept waiting for the full signal, wich never came. I ate the entire salad! so now I'm thinking something has happened to the band. so as a test I had a slice of bread. bad move. the band is definitely still working. it took several minutes of vomiting to get the bread out. so I don't understand why the salad went through so easily?

I doubt liquids would cause the pouch to stretch. it sometimes takes three or four fills before you really feel the restriction. as long as you don't have pain and aren't throwing things back up you're probably not stretching your pouch.

I get a powder called body fortress that is 46g of protein per serving (a lil more with 8oz of milk). I get it at wally world. not the best tasting stuff, but not too bad.

if nothing goes through but ice cream and mashed potatoes you are too tight. call your doc asap and have some removed. the ideal restriction is for about 1/2 cup of food (chewed well) to stay in the band for 2-3 hours. of course if you drink something it will wash it through, so take that into consideration.

Hi robby. you will lose weight before surgery as the preop diet is very strict. they won't fill the band until 3-4 weeks post op. good luck!

My Kids were sick over the weekend with a stomach virus. I;ve been taking airborne to help my immune system, but today I feel like I'm losing the battle. I'm concerned what will happen if I start to throw up like they did (it was horrible). should I call the doctor to get some fenegrin (sp) ?

I have the same thing. my resting rate is under 60 bpm. to the point my primary physician was concerned about it. I wonder if its the bodys response to eating so much less. it may be trying to conserve energy by slowing down a bit.

being how we're here in this forum I wondered what everyones "triggers" are for going to the cupboard. I'm not an emotional eater. I attended a support meeting where the speaker related overeating to alchoholism. I didn't relate to the things he was saying. my problem is one I have a very large sweet tooth and two I find myself wandering to the kitchen if I'm bored. how do you all cope with this? I have some hobbies but there's always time when you are sitting around with nothing to do when your mind starts wondering whats in the fridge.

Hi just wanted to introduce Myself. My name is Bob I live in Hendersonville Tn. I was banded by Dr Charles Morton on Oct. 2,2006. I have lost 75 Pounds so far and have another 30-40 to go. I hope to find some useful info here and share my experiences with others. I have inspired a few friends to have the surgery as well and hope to get them signed up here too.

I think you have to answer your own question. if you can have 30g of carbs, how much is a slice of the cheesecake? how many calories? I think we can all admit to "cheating" as long as it doesn't become "habit" you'll be ok.
