A Story About Head Hunger
anniemay replied to Skinny_Krissy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost a year out and active in support groups etc and this is the without a doubt the clearest analysis and in my experience the most accurate description of head hunger I have heard. Thank you. This is significantly helpful to me in my approach to dealing with it. -
Almost 5 months out, still borderline dehydrated
anniemay replied to Seela's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
G2 was a lifesaver for me. It would hydrate me quickly because it has other things that straight water doesn't. Doesn't sound like your not getting too many calories so one g2 a day may make a difference but definitely pay attention to the kidneys. You don't want to get a stone or have other issues. -
Ideas for celebrating goals

I know someone who started a Pandora charm bracelet and added a charm at each milestone -
When y'all watch it I would love. to hear your take on it. (Ha! Y'all! Yep I'm a Texan!)

It did feel very creepy. One man told his wife point blank he would leave if she went through with if. Another took the money for the surgery and spent it. I guess what was missing for me was that so much of these women's lives centered around their size in a positive way. It was their identity and that of their friends. For me my size was a hindrance to my psyche so I didn't necessarily relate to them.

I don't remember the porn part but I was so in ah of the whole BBW world. I personally would have preferred the documentary to focus on a different group as the whole BBW undertone played so much into the psyche of these women I felt it missed the larger market of people who chose WLS.
-
Yes. Big beautiful women. I had no idea about a lot of it. Some of these women met their husbands through events and stuff organized around BBW. Well no wonder the husbands weren't supportive as they all had fat fetishes
-
so I had an opportunity to screen this film at a support group and meet one of the women.....as it was filmed in Austin....personally I didn't find it to be helpful from a WLS perspective....it felt to be more about the BBW subculture than about a group of women struggling with weight and the decision for WLS. I was actually disappointed on the focus and felt very sad for most of the women that were featured - maybe because I could not relate - because so much of their identity was tied to the BBW community - for which I never really knew anything about until this film....it felt exploitive to me. Curious what others thought

I have an appointment to chop my hair off today. I have long hair and have for over 20 years.....I lost a tremendous amount and it is starting to grow back but I am so frustrated I am chopping it off and starting over - it just looks too bad at this point. I took Biotin and tried various things - but it is just too thin for me to keep it long

Dr. Alvarez vs Dr. Ariel Ortiz
anniemay replied to cookies-and-cream's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have heard stories about complications from both - they may not give you this information because once the patient leaves there is no followup from their perspective. Just do your research - I didn't go to Mexico but the one thing I would want to ask is how many procedures they perform daily....more is not better! -
this happened to me. they gave me a topical and something similar to Benadryl - took a couple of weeks for it to go away

leak and dr wants to remove my stomach
anniemay replied to freespirit63's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can they remove the spleen and fix the leak? Removing the entire stomach is not what I have heard to be common practice. -

Question for those who had lower start BMI/under 100 pounds to loose
anniemay replied to Bluesea71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved May 2013 at 224 lbs - I have lost 75 to date - none in the last two months. I have about 20 to go which will probably be the hardest to lose. But thankfully I survived the holidays and didn't gain anything. -
You mean post op? Yes

Is there anything more depressing...
anniemay replied to Madam Reverie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did everything that was suggested - had access to the best products and I still lost almost half of my hair - which is really long - it was so thin I was afraid I would have to cut it.....luckily my connections to the hair industry helped - I did get extensions - not the kind that are sewn in but the ones that come in small clumps of hair of probably 20-30 strands - they are all individually attached to my existing hair - and it has worked wonders. Kept what hair I had from falling out so quickly - I have had a few put in over the last few months to keep it full - and now I see the new growth.....finally!!! -
So, should I be 'disappointed', 'flattered' or 'indifferent'?
anniemay replied to Madam Reverie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I noticed the loss and people would say nice things it didn't click with me until just this week - almost 10 months out. I came home and my son comes running down the hallway and suddenly stopped. He just looked at me and said wow you are skinny! Best thing ever - for my almost 7 year old to notice it so spontaneously. I had stalled for two months and just now lost five pounds - but those are the five pounds that pushed my body out of its normal comfort zone - where it has always liked to settle over the last 15-20 years....I could never lose more than that - now I have - and I get it - I feel it - and it is awesome!!! -
only your doctor can decide this. My doctor told me to quit smoking. His NP said they won't do surgery if I don't. He told me he wouldn't hold surgery up for that. I think many people gain because they are mourning the food in their lives .
