    June 2007 Bandsters

Hi Junies, just got home from 2 days in hospital after banding Wednesday. Well, it has been pretty painful after, both port and gas pain so I hope tomorrow will be better. Unfortunately I am not one of those lucky souls who don't feel hungry (I'm starving) but small amounts are going down well. I can eat yogurt and soup and custard etc for the next 2 weeks, weird how the pre and post op diets vary so much. At least I didnt die ( I had myself convinced I would!!!!!)

Stop weighing yourself Kidding!! Really though it is going to be a long haul so we have to find other things to focus on besides our weight or it becomes so difficult to live life. The more I think about food, dieting and weight loss the more I think about it. :faint:I'm cleaning out my garage right now, frightening!!!:omg:

Hi gang, I get my band tomorrow. Feeling nervous, hope I'm doing the right thing, I want to be a bandster with a good story to tell!!! Well, I'll let you know how it goes, I have 2 nights in hospital so see you all Friday.
  7. HA LOL that is hysterical!!! I'm sitting here downunder killing myself, which is a tall order on day 13 of optifast!!!

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

The pre op diet varies widely according to surgeon. From absolutely nothing to 5 weeks of liquids. I am on day 10 (total 2 weeks) of optifast and it's been rough. It was REALLY bad the first 5 days then got abit easier but I've only cheated with a few bits of fruit and licked my fingers after serving choc cake!!!! I just keep focusing on the surgery and the weight I'm losing now but I'm struggling hour to hour. Good luck, if all these people can do it so can we.
  9. Hi Courtney and Mark, I'm getting banded June 27 in Melbourne. Can't wait, the otpifast is killing me!!!! Let me know how you do Courtney, GOOD LUCK!!

    ok how the heck

Go to How to get a ticker in your signature I was SO mad until someone put me onto this!!!
  11. Hi Rachel, just reading your post and feeling for you. God I know that feeling when you can't stop even though you know it will hurt you. I'm not banded yet but have eaten many times to the point of extreme pain.Alexandras advice is right on, take a HCL inhibter like nexium and also take tums (sucked) or some other antacid which will have a more immediate effect. Good luck on the liquids, you will fell better soon.
  12. Stevie W, I can't believe you have to do this for 5 weeks. I am so struggling with 2 weeks. I have been having more veges than allowed but I'm not eating chocolate!!! I think it's really weird that some surgeons require so much(like yours) and some so little or nothing at all.Where are you? I'm in Melbourne having surgery at the Epworth. Good luck with the Optifast, take one day at a time and if you do decide to eat an egg it's no big deal but just don't let it lead you astray
  13. I am on day 5 of optifast and I feel like crap too. I have stuck to it pretty well (except for a few cherries). I didn't know the optifast diet had anything to do with putting you in ketosis? I haven't heard or read anything about that, I thought it was all about low cal/kj input. Anyway whatever it sucks!!
  14. I'm not banded yet(June 27) but here are the ones my Doc and dietician drummed into my head. 1)three meals a day 2)stop when approching full, not a mouthful more 3)small bites 4)chew very well and eat slowly 5)Don't drink with food 6)Don't eat high caloric food that will pass through the band easily(ice cream etc) 7)No high caloric drinks I'm sure there are more that I want to know about too !!! Best of luck with your band Marga
  15. Thanks you guys, Jacqui WOW you are there!! How has it been, harder or better than anticipated? How long? What happens to the wanting to eat all the time, is that easier because you are not so hungry? Thanks Marga

Rhonda, I was diagnosed with insulin resistance too but the way to improve it is to slowly increase muscle mass (exercise) and decrease fat (less food-thanks to the band) and eventually you stop being resistant and your metabolism works like a normal person again(thet what the endocrinoligist said anyway!). I think it makes it slower and harder but definately light at the end of the tunnel. HANG IN THERE!! I get my band on the 27th YAY!!! Marga

    June 07 Bandsters

Hi, I'm having surgery on the 27th. CAN'T WAIT!!!! How long have you been on the pre op diet to lose 13 lbs (well done). What is your diet? I love this site too, alot more info than the surgeon gave! GOOD LUCK Marga
  18. Tracy, it sucks huh!!! What diet are you on? Well, if we were able to stick to a diet losing weight would be a piece of cake!! OMG don't talk about food, I judt made the kids yummy home made spinach, mushroom and fetta pizza and it smells REALLY yummy.

    Kinda nervous

Hey purplegirl I havn't been banded yet(June 27) so I can't give you that kind of support but I sure know what you are going through. I have been fat all my life too (I'm now 46) and high school was hell. I am SO glad for you that you have the option of getting banded now instead of dieting/failing/being miserable for the next 20, 30 whatever years. YOU GO GIRL. You will be OK, it won't be easy but it seems if you follow the rules you have a really good chance of making it work. Wait until it is free a couple of weeks won't make any difference and read all the great success stories and advice of all these people that got there. GOOD LUCK and keep safe. Marga
  20. OMG today is the first day of 14 optifast and I had to come and read some of this to know that if so many have done it before me just maybe I can do it too. I am pathetic!!!! I HATE being hungry. Well, I think I'll go and have a delicious glass of water.!!!

    What was the last straw?

Wow great question, all of the above plus my 11 year old autistic son saying "mum, you should go on biggest loser, they would take you" phew those comments don't roll off too easily. surgery June 27
  22. The hialtal hernia is perfect I've decided. The area, scars etc are the same. Post surgery you can blame not being able to eat on swelling, pain. I am telling family but I just don't want everyone else constantly looking to see if Ive lost weight and if I'll put it back on again like EVERY time before. I would rather tell everyone but I'm just so beaten down about weight issues after being fat since age 7 (47 now). Anyway here's to hernia surgery!!!!
  23. Hi everyone, I have to say thanks for all the great posts I know I will be here alot after banding (June 27) . Could someone be bothered telling me how to put the cool ticker factory thing on my posts. I went to the site and made it but how do you get it here?? Sorry, I am such a dummy with computers.:girl_hug: Anyway I am scared and hopeful and trying not to stuff my face and put on more weight before surgery!!!! Thanks again
