Thanksgiving Challenge
Healthier2day1227 replied to Bea Amaya's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Starting weight 226.6 Current weight 224.4 Thanksgiving goal. 220 -
In early recovery my hunger pains were very, well..painful. I started taking omeprazole 40 mg (Prilosec) and the pains have subsided. I think it gets better over time, now it just feels like regular hunger. But some days it rears its ugly head and is back!

Call me <evil> but...
Healthier2day1227 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Lipstick Lady I think we have the same sister in law! Mine has made weight comments about me multiple times, such as "I know what it's like, I used to be huge too" and "even though you are big you are pretty." None of them know I had the sleeve. While she still hasn't acknowledged my 75 pound loss, there will come a point where I am no longer the big one that she can always compare herself too favorably. -

Best and worst "compliments"

Good for you! Putting it back on her. I'm gonna try that next time. It's like why give someone coon courtesy when they're being rude? -

Best and worst "compliments"
Healthier2day1227 replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My sister in law just tried to compliment me (I guess) by saying that when she used to be heavy she didn't look as pretty as me. And said even though I'm thick I still look nice. Ok, I've lost 78 pounds since January! And she doesn't know I've had this surgery so boy will she be shocked 6 months down the road when she can't say I'm pretty for being heavy. -
Pretty sure I f***ed up the sleeve. No leak, but I might as well have never gotten it.

My junior year in college I came to terms with my alcoholism. I was so afraid to go to parties and not drink! I would drink 7-up or coke but put a lime in it to look more like a cocktail. People who didn't know me didn't even notice I wasn't drinking. My closer friends noticed but they were the ones who were happy I quit. And if I was at a bar to see a friend play, nobody even noticed. I think people are more focused on themselves than the details of others. All this being said I gradually stopped going to parties and bars just because I had made new sober friends and different things interested me. I'm just sharing my experience and helping you see that people don't notice the details as much as we give them credit for. -
When people ask "How did you lose weight?"
Healthier2day1227 replied to MySleeveJourney's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I decided not to tell anyone but my very close friends and some family, so when people ask how I've lost weight I just say in a very general way calorie control and exercise. I guess this is one instance where losing slowly is to my advantage, nobody is shocked by my weight loss. I had surgery in June and have lost 44 pounds so it could have been done "on my own." -
They cause you to ingest air which can make you bloated and stretch your sleeve in the long run. I think also it's a liability issue, if your sleeve does stretch they want to make sure they've issued every possible warning.

Havent told anyone yet
Healthier2day1227 replied to Tiki's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ultimately it's your call and there's no right answer. I chose to only tell my parents, my kids and my best friend. I made my husband swear not to tell his mother because she spoke very harshly about a friend who had the lap band. Who needs that negative energy. I told a few coworkers that I was considering it and they were very negative and critical. So I never brought it up again. But a lot of people have had positive experiences. The few people I did tell have been tremendously supportive so that's been good. For me, I lose weight very slowly so I didn't have people thinking wow how'd she lose it so fast. Really I think it's a personal thing. I didn't even tell my siblings and to this day neither of them have even commented on my weight loss so they really didn't need to know. -

Just thought I'd share: our local store had a sale on bison steaks so I picked some up for dinner just to try something new. I checked the label and in a 6 oz steak it is 180 cal and 40 grams of protein! Wow! I wish they were always on sale!

Healthier2day1227 replied to k8ee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved in June and have lost 40. These last two months have really slowed down. One thing I don't get all my water. Does anyone know why drinking all our water helps u lose weight? Does it have to do with flushing out retention? If anyone knows how to help their water intake let me know, I am struggling to get in 32 oz. -
What shrinks your liver?

From what I understand its the weight loss that shrinks your liver, not what you eat. -
SLOW WEIGHT LOSS WHAT AM I DOING WRONG
Healthier2day1227 replied to Cari hernandez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lose slowly too. In the beginning 2-3 per week with stalls in between. Now at 4.5 months out I'm losing a pound a week with stalls! Averaging 3-4 pounds a month. And I am still 40 pounds from goal. I've lost 40 pounds total from my June 19 surgery. But I knew it would be this way because in all my previous attempts the loss has been slow compared to others. But look on the bright side, this gives your skin time to adjust. And even though its slow its still coming off. Don't worry about stalls, everybody has them. -

exercise motivation tips pretty please
Healthier2day1227 replied to ElyQuint's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Ok what I did is I made myself accountable to someone else. First I put as my fb status that my goal was to get in four days of exercise this week. So alot of my friends commented. Then I told my son we were getting in four walks this week. So now I have to go because he loves going with me. So it's Wednesday and I've already gone three times. Last week I was lazy so I knew I had to change this week. -
