Am i done losing weight?
Healthier2day1227 replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It could be some excess skin in my thighs. I don't think it's muscle because I do more cardio than strength training. But you never know. Thanks for your response I will let the stall go longer since nearing the finish. Ugh! -
My Mom is up in arms about this! She's like where is a woman my age supposed to shop now! They have really nice stuff.

I have a two year old and he always wants me to go down the slide at the park with him. In the past I've never done it because I knew I'd get stuck. But today I did it and he loved it! Also at an event yesterday was able to climb up the bounce house ladder and go down the slide with him. It makes me so happy to get to play with him like this. -
How do you decide what your Goal Weight is?
Healthier2day1227 replied to yodasplash's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a great question and I've wondered it myself. My Doctor never really gave me a goal weight. I'm 5'10" and he basically asked me about a time when I looked good and felt good which I said was 190. Well now I'm at 180 and still losing. So I've readjusted my goal to 165 which puts me at a healthy BMI. That would be awesome! I think the reason my doctor was hesitant to give me a goal is they focus more on percentage of excess body weight lost. The BMI charts aren't always realistic especially with higher starting weights. And they don't take everything into account. -
I love this! I am a recovering alcoholic and this tool has helped me along in my sobriety. The act of making the list makes you realize simple things you didn't even realize you had to be grateful for. It always got me off the pity pot. I never thought of making one after surgery. Awesome tool! I would say today I am grateful for... No more foot pain Feet have gone down in size Being able to be active with my two year old and twelve year old Fitting on Disneyland rides with my kids Overall health Not obsessing about food all the time Saving money because it costs less to eat the way I do I could go on...these are just my surgery related gratitudes also grateful for so much more.

I think the feelings stay, you just learn to deal with it. My friend has hundreds of pictures on her computer and I'm in lots of them. They span a ten year time frame and range from 245-315 pounds. She had a party and had them playing on her computer in a slide show. I would cringe! I felt very sad for my former self because I remember the feelings of shame with being so heavy. I also felt a little embarrassed knowing I was that heavy. But there was also the feeling of pride and accomplishment that comes with losing over a hundred pounds, and liking what I see in the mirror, and enjoying not being in pain all the time. That makes it easier to deal with the other more negative emotions. It's not like I would ask her to remove the photos, my past is a big part of my present and I'm still the same person.

Just went to Disneyland a few weeks ago. You won't need the surgery card because they let you order children's meals regardless of your age. Disney is all about accommodating their guests and they better be for their prices! We ate at the Pinocchio restaurant in Fantasy Land and I had salad. For dinner I split a roast beef entree at Flos Diner in California Adventure with my son. Yes they let you split. Also I'm not sure if you know this, but Disneyland doesn't seem to care if you bring in food. Either that or she just didn't notice because in my backpack I packed protein bars, turkey meat sticks, cheese sticks and six water bottles. She didn't say anything to me. Also did you know that any restaurant/fast food place in Disney will give you free ice water in a cup with lid? After I finished all my bottles of water I was still thirsty so I overheard a man order ice water and from that point on every time I was thirsty I just ordered free ice water. Because with all that walking around you will get thirsty! Have fun!

There are a lot of OTC acid reducers you just have to find what works for you personally. I started with Prilosec and it didn't seem to help. I was still getting hunger and pains. I switched to Pepcid AC and its worked great for me. I take 20 mg twice a day and don't get those horrible hunger pains or the stabbing pains I was getting before. Just try different ones and you will find one that works for you.

Your band width will probably go down first, followed by your cup size. Speaking from my own experience, I lost 110 pounds. My bra size went from a 42 DD to a 36 D. But I didn't go from a DD to a D until about 90 pounds lost.

Help with slow weightloss
Healthier2day1227 replied to missyhogan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's two pounds a week and its what to expect with 1200 calories. I love my fitness pal I use it every day and I'm down 107 in 9 months. You can reset the calories to say 900 if you feel that's more realistic for 4 months out. And then farther down adjust it to 1200. I'm losing about 2 pounds a week on just under 1200. And I'm 10 pounds from my surgeons goal. But I kind of want to push that further. -
will Medical cover the sleeve?

I started at 280 and now weigh 191. I'm also in CA. Best of luck to you! I don't know if this makes a difference but the provider of Medi cal I have is Cal Optima. -

I had a bmi of 41 but no comorbidities. I'm not sure what their requirement was. It was a very easy process and I had no out of pocket. I'm very grateful because this surgery changed my life and I never would've been able to afford it on my own. -

I have Medi cal and my sleeve was covered. I started the process last Jan and was sleeved in June. It wasn't a battle at all. -
Curse these stalls....or maybe not
Healthier2day1227 replied to Recycled's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a great way to think of the stall. So much depends on our attitude. Yes a stall keeps us on our toes so why not put a positive spin on it. -
Frustrated with the stall
Healthier2day1227 replied to SuperKen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so glad I found this thread. I haven't lost a pound in three weeks and I'm doing everything I was doing when I was losing. I'm 8 months out and closer to goal so of course I knew it would slow but it hasn't moved at all. But I love the stair step analogy! On the other hand I just went shopping and went down a size so that made me feel better. But honestly reading this thread reassured me. I keep worrying that I am done losing weight and this thread gave me hope. -

15 grams of carbs/500 or fewer calories a day until I lose 100 pounds?
Healthier2day1227 replied to Mel1071's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can see why you are frustrated! 500 cal doesn't seem like enough especially down the road. I think it's baffling that so many drs have vastly different guidelines. But some of them I think are designed so they can say you didn't follow their instructions and that's why you weren't successful, sort of to cover their asses. My nutritionist doesn't suggest dipping that low but you could always turn it around and ask them why they have 500 cal when others allow higher, see what they say. Hang in there in the meantime sounds like you've lost a lot! -

Healthier2day1227 replied to Museum-Mama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everybody! I was sleeved June 19th and its been an awesome journey. My highest weight was 298 size 22. Day of surgery 270. Today I'm 198, and wearing size 14. My loss has slowed but that's ok. I track everything on My Fitness Pal and walk regularly. Sometimes I get bored with the food I eat but my sleeve keeps me on track. It's been a major motivation. Congrats to everyone on their success and keep going! -

Does anyone else think it's awfully early for Cadbury eggs?
Healthier2day1227 replied to marfar7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think it depends on the person. For me one would never be enough and i would search for more. But then I love chocolate but am ok with other candies. If you post sleeve have good restraint it should be ok but for me this is a trigger food and makes me want more. Also as long as its not in the house I'm ok. So if I buy a single Cadbury egg and eat it anywhere but my house I'm ok. I don't know why that differentiation exists for me but it does.
