Vomiting, post op 9weeks, vsg
Luchie replied to sk14712012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks SK, I feel reassured now! How are you doing?? -
Hiya, I had my check-up yesterday, and it seems although the eating issue is an issue, if you get all your Vitamins in the main thing to concentrate on is hydration.... I'm back in a month to check progress again, but no alarm bells are ringing at the moment.... Phew!!! How are you doing?

Oh and according to my nut, a pint of milk with 4 tablespoons of skimmed milk powder gives 61g protein, so if you're drinking ok, try that - then you can relax about what else you have!

Hi! I new too and was also sleeved on the 29th! I'm having exactly the same problems as you; I just can't get enough down me and I'm throwing up pretty much every day! On a really good day, I can eat 2-3 times, and 4-6 teaspoons each time, but I've only had 2 or 3 days that good. Most days I manage a couple of spoons and 500 - 750 mls of liquid, which I know is nowhere near enough but like you, if I try and force it I just throw up! I can only eat when I'm hungry too, otherwise the same thing happens. I asked my nut and surgeon about it a couple of weeks ago, and they said that as long as overall things are heading in the right direction, don't be too hard on myself, and this is fairly normal for 4-6 weeks! I've also seen a post from another member who is 9 weeks post-op and not too much further forward than us, and her Dr seems ok with it... I've got my 1 month check tomorrow so I'll see what they say then....

Harsh tone Grace! Not sure what you don't understand from the original question.... SK - I know I'm a few weeks behind you, but I feel your pain, and as I'm on 4-6 teaspoons on a good day, I can believe where you are at 9 weeks! The foaming seems to be commonly referred to on this forum as 'sliming' and most people experience it. Advice given to me is that as long as you're generally heading in the right direction, you're doing ok.... One day we will manage the prescribed intake! All I can suggest is if you're worried, keep in touch with your Dr / nut. -
OMG Im really doing this...my surgery date is Feb 27...tiny bit nervous

Good luck to everyone who has surgery this week!!! I'm almost 4 weeks out, and although everyone is different, my recovery pain and hunger-wise has been a piece of cake! I had to stay a few extra days in hospital because my internal swelling was taking it's own sweet time to go down and I couldn't drink so I was kept in IV, and I am having issues with not being able to eat or drink enough, but apparently this is quite normal and everyone gets there at their own rate. I had no real pain to speak of (minor aches in the first day or two), haven't taken a painkiller since leaving hospital. I have just started feeling our new version of 'hunger', which I can only describe as 'mildly peckish'; more of a vague hollow feeling than real hunger. I do crave savoury flavours, and had one or two weak moments where I tried to run before I could walk (surely one soft, mushy, English fish&chips style fry will be ok? WRONG!!!!!) and we all have days where we think "what the hell have I done?" But just know that these days happen, know that they pass and know that the liquid / purée / soft food stages are just that - stages. The recovery is a process, and although sometimes frustrating and boring, it is generally fine and WILL PASS! And then will come your day when you feel light, have energy, and look good on the beach! Good luck everyone, and co granulation a on the new you! -
Thanks Satchel - I'll give them a try.... :-)

Day 4 post op, burning heart?
Luchie replied to Jessie Lyons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you taking stomach-lining meds? I left hospital, finished the course I had and was then trying to sleep upright to ease the horrendous acid burning! I didn't realised I needed those meds for another month.... Call your dr. -

I'm 3.5 weeks in and still foaming, being sick and hardly managing any liquid food, nevermind anything else! My surgeon said it was fairly normal for 4-6 weeks.... -
Yeh, I'm there now.... I was loosing around 1.5-2lbs per day but for the last week, nothing! Aargh! Lots of posts here say that it happens, and it passes, so I think it's just something we'll have to put up with!

Is nausea and vomiting common?
Luchie replied to asweetypi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 1/29 so I'm 3.5 weeks out and am still sick most days, not able to drink anything near what the Dr wants and eating almost nothing (today I managed a ground-breaking 80mls of Soup - astonishing! ). My surgeon said it's fairly normal for 4-6 weeks and as long as everything is heading in the right direction overall, not to be too hard on myself. So I guess for the first 6 weeks we're still settling down from the op, which everyone does at different rates.... It's sooooo boring throwing up after everything though....! -
Oh really? I heard it was lack of Protein that affected hairless, but I'll check my Vitamins now! Thanks :-) After a bad few days, I've managed a record-breaking 1 litre of Fluid today including about 80 mls of soup! Woo hoo!!!! Sounds like you're doing great Vickyl - well done you!
-
I'm not doing well with the protein yet either - one sip fills me to bursting point and then just comes back up again! I'll try your suggestions though - thanks!
-
Thanks for the tips both of you! I'll put eggs on hold for a while..... :-)
-
I'm 3 weeks post-op and tried puréed egg mayo; I found the same and didn't stop throwing up for an hour! I'm having trouble with most food but eggs really aren't my friend!
-
Hi Vickyl and everyone else! I'm a new sleeve-er too (29th Jan - 3 weeks in) and am having a lot of the problems you mention; can hardly eat a thing, managing a few teaspoons every few days, can't get enough liquid in, freezing cold, very weak, throwing up a LOT and having low points thinking "what the hell have I done?". I left hospital with the liquid diet for weeks 1&2, but not been able to come close to it. BUT.... Those few teaspoons are going from once a week to a few times a week and so I'm hoping soon that it'll be every day... I am taking two steps forward and one step back, but even if I eat 15 teaspoons of liquid food or soft puree next week, it's 5 more than this week. Although the hospital told me not to use a straw, I read here that some find it helps so I'm giving it a go and have just managed 150 ml in about an hour - normally it takes me about three hours! I did get worried and spoke to my dietician and surgeon. The both seem fairly unconcerned as I am generally heading in the right direction, albeit painfully slowly. The advice was to not be so hard on myself, and that this is fairly normal for 4-6 weeks! I am terrified of my hair falling out though!
