Pregnancy and Breastfeeding post op
mamachef replied to alejern84's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I can't speak as to nursing quite yet... I am 23 weeks and am already leaking... the girls a prepping themselves earlier than they did with my last 2... Also you can contact your local la Leche league and they will jump through hoops to help you out. My doctors (surgeon and OB) say that I shouldn't have a problem :-) -
I use a straw and practically have a stream of water going down my throat constantly... slow enough that I don't get full but just enough that I can get it all down.
-
Focus on protein and even though it goes against everything... graze. I got pregnant 3 weeks post op and am now 23weeks. PM me whenever. Listen to your OB but do not be nervous to bring something up. This is also my 3rd and while the first 2 were super easy pregnancies this one has been a little more difficult. The grazing keeps the nausea at bay... I eat a cheese cube or 2 every hour to 90 min between meals. They watch things a bit more closely but it really isn't so bad. There are struggles that I am sure wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't so soon post op but what are ya gonna do oops happens maternity clothes fit better :-D

My doc puts his patients on 3 weeks of "pelvic rest" we waited the 3 weeks... had sex used 2 forms of protection and lo and behold I am pregnant... 20 weeks along now :-) scary!!!

Yeah my NUT, head nurse of my program and OB were concerned that the vit a and D would be too high and can cause birth defects. Ask your OB they are going to know better than your nut if your nut only focuses on bariatric.

21 y/o first time mom 7 months post op

Keep some cheese cubes or slices in the fridge and a healthy trail mix in your purse... nibble on it to ward off nausea... you don't need extra calories until about 15 weeks at which time you will only need 300 extra calories per day for the duration of your pregnancy. That looks like half a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (just to give you an image) I studied nutrition in college and took an interest in pregnancy nutrition also I am currently 18weeks... If you let your head tell you that you have to eat more you might gain weight. I am 18 weeks and still loosing and my OB is not concerned. You might not be able to see a midwife because of the surgery but good luck there are a lot of things that have to be done differently. This is my 3rd pregnancy and it is being handled very differently :-) -
Change up your workout routine and also take a look at what you have been eating... sometimes cutting back to no carbs for a day or two will jump start your metabolism again :-)

Well we are 4 days from 17 weeks! We are doing GREAT!!! doctors seem to be happy with everything in 5 days I will be 20 weeks post op and a total of 72 lb gone! ... This has not been easy. I throw up almost every day because on top of pregnancy nausea I am still learning the pouch. I have continued to lose but have managed to slow down. This month I lost 6 lb and there is no way to stop that from happening this is why we are told to wait... I am full of info on this so if you gals have any questions feel free to ask... I am an open book

Wait as long as you possibly can... This is HARD!!! This is our third child and both of my pregnancies before we're practically identical... I am having a really hard time now because it is super hard to eat and find things that I can tolerate.

So I had surgery August 2nd and went to Georgia for a family thing on the 7th of September... I remember that whole trip I was SUPER tired and thought that was strange because I had just taken a B 12 shot. So around the 11th of Sept I tested and it was positive SUPER fast... so I was about 6 weeks post op and only 3 weeks pregnant...

Pregnant With Sleeve Surgery?
mamachef replied to Essence33's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
We had a MAJOR birth control FAIL!!! First time we had set after surgery we got pregnant even with 2 forms of birth control... I am 17 weeks now and there hasn't even been a mention of the staples being a concern and I am ALWAYS emailing my surgeon and his staff asking questions. -
The reason you don't want to take double prenatal vitamins is that if you do become pregnant too much vitamin A or D can be harmful to baby... when I found out I was pregnant the first thing my docs did was cut me down to one prenatal and nothing else (except calcium) a day... I am almost 17 weeks now and have blood work frequently and my body is absorbing the nutrients very well...

How long to get pregnant
mamachef replied to BigFatLoser's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Well my OB is watching my blood super close and we have extra ultrasounds to watch babies growth. Also OB basically threw my diet out the window for now because I am super sick he wants me to "eat whatever goes down" I am trying to stay with healthier choices but I have my mini twix here and there... I see my surgeon every 6 weeks to make sure everything is still healing right and he agreed with the OB saying eat ehat goes down. I am still losing about 5lb/week but baby is growing right on track so the OB isnt worried. They think I might gain about 5lb later but probably not much more than that and after baby I will still be lower than when I got pregnant. We were using condoms and a vaginal contraceptive film as back up and they both failed. -

8 months post op...wanting baby but scared emotionally
mamachef replied to cchristiaens's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
The first thing my surgeon said to me when I told him I was pregnant was not to even step on a scale if it was going to bother me... He said as long as tou stick to the maintaining diet and only add 300 calories per day (thats all the bean needs) I would be fine... I am 3 months pregnant and have still lost weight because I was super sick. It is an emotional roller coaster but you will be ok... the weight will come off like it did before it isnt like pregnancy can reverse surgery... you will still have the same tool after the baby is born and it will be much easier to lose any weight you can gain. As long as you dont see pregnancy as an opportunity to do whatever and eat whatever, you will be GOLDEN!!! -
After VSG do you have pregnancy cravings & gain weight like a normal pregnant woman?

Oh wow is right!!! Lol this was def not in our plans but apparently was in Gods perfect plan... its REALLY hard... I cant eat like anything and since you aren't allowed deli meat while pregnant I am having a really tricky time finding things my pouch will accept PLUS I am super sick all the time. This is our 3rd baby and by far the hardest pregnancy. -
I feel ya! I am 9W thisbis my third and the first 2 were a breeze... this one has knocked me on my ass I am so sick ALL the time

3 months out & baby crazy!
mamachef replied to tamarlarae's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Take it from someone who is in the thick of it... I am 6 weeks post op and just found out I am pregnant... I am having to drastically change and monitor my vitamin intake... I have to aim for 1500 calories per day... its a HUGE amount. My restriction is back like I am eating my first meal again. Its HARD. We had a birthcontrol failure and even though I am happy because we really want another baby, I am terrified and wish it hadnt happened so soon. Plus this early I am considered high risk so I have way more Dr appts and have to juggle those with seeing my surgeon more as well. -
Hey all scheduled for August 2nd in celebration Florida :-)
-
To say I am freaked out would be an understatement... Please keep your judgement and bad comments to yourself I have enough of that in my inner monologue right now... I am six weeks post op... have been really careful both times my hubby and I have done the deed using two forms of protection and I just got 2 BFPs... I am terrified and exvited at the same time... how did this little guy make it past all of our measures?!?! I am 5 weeks along according to my last MP meaning I got PG about 2-3 weeks post op... yall im freaking out
-
I spoke with my surgeons head nurse. She emailed me a new nutrition plan with altered Vitamins and Protein guidelines. She is not super concerned. I mean they surely arent excited but she said "it happens and it just part of Gods plan" Not freaking out so much anymore. I will keep yall updated but so far it seems like everything will be alright.

He prefers the bypass because it has long term success and they know that. If you want a sleeve and you know your reasons and are fine with the fact that there isnt long term info for the sleeve he will do what you want. He will tell you what he thibks is best but ultimately it is your choice.
