Jessiebear replied to NJChick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Had it before for years. Happy to report that it is gone since banding!! -
Got my personal mixer yesterday! Made my very first protein shake this morning! It was good! Thanks DeLarla!

They are really good! I found them at Wal-Mart around the pharmacy.

I hiccup a couple of times when I am done. And praise God for that! I had much rather have a hiccup than a headache! LOL!

I'm with Loopy Lou here. If you feel short of breath (not just pain or soreness when deep breathing) and/or you feel panicky, get to the ER! Pulmonary embolisms are nothing to play with! If it is just soreness when deep breathing, cough & deep breathe a few times every hour holding a pillow firmly across your abdomen & the soreness should subside soon. It amazes me how the nurses don't pass out the incentive spirometers after someone has had surgery. They are very important! I still didn't get one after asking twice! & I'm a nurse! LOL!!! I had the soreness too for a couple of days after surgery & the coughing & deep breathing worked for me.

I can't speak for everyone but here is my story. I am 8 months out & have lost only 30 lbs. There are a number of factors to explain this for me. First of all my port was tilted & my doc was unable to access it for a fill. I had some traveling to do & was unable to get it repaired for a few months. Once it was repaired it was another 2 months before I was able to go in for another fill (traveling again). During the inbetween times I became discouraged & was not following any kind of diet plan. I was basically eating anything I wanted (because I could). Since finding this site & gaining much insight & knowledge from the other bandsters, I am now back on track. I will be going in this week for another fill. I think this next fill will be what really gets the weight loss going for me. I think I was in denial about needing another fill until I visited another web site link that was provided by another bandster. I think the band journey is different for everyone. Not only am I new to this, my doc is new to this too. If you decide to do this, which I would recommend it to anyone even with all the setbacks I have had, I would say be informed, do lots of research, & be the best advocate for yourself that you can be. This is much slower for some of us, but soooooo...... worth it!

After I had my surgery in January the gas pain was horrible!! I tried everything from walking to over the counter gas pain relief pills. Then I remembered having to call a doctor one night at work about a patient who had had lap. gall bladder removal & was experiencing gas pain so bad that nothing was helping (I'm a nurse - we had already tried gas-x with no results). The doc gave me an order for "GLYCERINE SUPPOSITORIES". They worked!!! They also worked for me after my LB surgery. I didn't think of them until about 3 days post-op. It was immediate relief!! I had to use them for about 2 days. I wish I had thought of them before the surgery. I know, noone wants to use suppositories. But they really do work! I promise! LOL!!...........

Hungry, Really hungry! Please help!
Jessiebear replied to Lisa Marie C's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I stayed with my Mom for the first couple of days after surgery. She fixed me some ham soup base. She just made it up like broth. The difference is that it was thicker & had the tiniest bits of ham (which we strained out). It was heaven. It filled me up & I had no more hunger pangs. She also had a chicken soup starter but I liked the ham better. Good luck & hang in there! It WILL get better!!........Jess -
Yes it is! & yes she is! She is awesome! & she also can't stand whining. LOL!!
-
LOL!! I will confess......... My Mom did it for me .

Don't be embarassed! I also had my surgery in January & I am only down 30 lbs. & 10 of that was in this last month. I too am a sugar/chocolate addict. I think one of the things that has made a difference in this last 10 lbs is that I discovered Well's Blue Bunnies fat free, sugar free, white chocolate & almond icecream bars. They are so good & don't really taste diet! Keep your chin up! I think the weight loss is just a little slower for some of us. I look at it this way - At least I'm losing!! Keep up the good work!

Finally some NSVs! I have been putting off going through my clothes for some time now. I finally decided to take the bull by the horns & get it over with. 3/4 of my clothes were too big for me! & I've been putting this off? :rolleyes I also shaved my legs last night & didn't feel like a contortionist!! Well now the issue of buying more clothes. Tell me what ya'll did please. I need advice. I hate to spend money on clothes & then turn around & not be able to wear them. Any ideas are appreciated! I was going to call my doc to schedule another fill today. But when I got up I weighed & I had lost another 10 lbs. I was plateaued for a month. I guess it was a true plateau & not just needing a fill. Anyway, thanks in advance.......Jess;)

NSVs: Gittin rid of clothes & Shaving!!!
Jessiebear replied to Jessiebear's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for all the ideas! I will definately try ebay. And we do have a big consignment shop here. I can't believe I didn't think of that. I wish we did have a support group for WLS here. I have been thinking of approaching my doc about starting one through his office. My Sister-in-law had GB surgery & that is how she got rid of her clothes & found new, smaller ones. The only problem is she's in Oklahoma & I'm in Arkansas, or I would just go to that one. Anyway! Thanks again.........Jess :banana :banana :banana Oh & Jack, I would like to see that too! LOL!! -
Welcome! & congratulations! 50 lbs is awesome! Keep up the great work! See u around!....Jess

Hello fellow bandsters!!
Jessiebear replied to Jessiebear's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you everyone! Glad to be here! -
:banana I am so sorry!! I could have sworn that I introduced myself right after I was banded. I searched all of my posts because I wanted to see what I had been thinking at the time (I have an awful memory) & I couldn't find my introduction! So here it goes. My name is Jessica. I was banded on 1/26/05 by Dr. Rex Luttrell in Little Rock, Arkansas. I was one of his first LB patients. The surgery went well with the exception of my port tilting. My doc repaired it in March. I have had 2 fills since the repair & I am currently at 2ccs. So far I have lost 25 lbs. I have been plateaued for about a month & I am calling Monday to set up for another fill. I am a nurse but have not worked for a year due to a back injury which lead me to have this surgery. No surgeon would touch my back due to my size. My pre-band weight was 350 lbs. I also have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) which was a factor in my being overweight since puberty.I have been married to my DH for 13.5 years. In all of that time we have been unable to have children due to the PCOS.When I finally break the 250 lbs mark, my docs are hopeful that the PCOS will be controlled. This was another factor in my being banded. Plus being diagnosed with high blood pressure right before being banded. But, I am happy & feeling good! & things can only get better!! I hope by joining this site that I can be an inspiration to others & make some new friends! Good luck to everyone!!..............Jess:Bunny

Banded 11 days ago...woohoo!
Jessiebear replied to Carrie22803's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome! Hang in there! The liquids will be over before you know it. I rushed it too & paid the price of severe pain & panic! It passed, but I didn't do it again! :cross-eye The mushies will be like heaven!! I was so sick of broth though. My Mom bought me some soup bases (chicken & ham). The ham was like nectar from the Gods! She also bought me some Knorr boullion cubes & they were far superior to the other stuff. Those 2 things made the liquids more tolerable. My doc made me stay on liquids for 3 weeks for some reason. Good luck! & Best wishes!.......Jess:banana -
Wow! The sister thing is awesome! Welcome! I have been banded since January & I still meet opposition when people talk to me about being banded. You're right, there is a great misconception about the band being the same as the bypass. Hang in there! Only you know what is right for you! This was the best & the easiest thing I have ever done! Keep us posted! Best wishes! .....Jess

Questions re: Flying post-op??? Binging???
Jessiebear replied to loopylou's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Loulou!! I wish you the best! I was a binge eater / emotional eater too! I'll be honest. :rolleyes I still have occasional bouts with it. But it's nothing compared to the way I was preband. I find I just don't have an appetite. My stomach actually growls at me!! And when it does growl, nothing really sounds good to me. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. At least I hope you will! I'll be keeping you in my thoughts & prayers!...........Jess -
How long did you have to wait?
Jessiebear replied to MerryHearted's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
