Who did your surgery? Dr. Pirello (sp?) at Novant Matthews. Unfortunately he's not a surgeon any more as he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. Awesome, right? lol So I haven't followed up with anyone since about 9 months out because I really didn't care for his PA and that's the only one I met with after surgery.

Just outside of Charlotte here. Had surgery March 20, 2013. Now 20 weeks pregnant with first baby Good luck to you all. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Post op FIRST time pregnancies
melissapaige84 replied to Jaime_Boston's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I haven't been on this forum in forever but I'm looking for a couple friends to go through this journey with. I'm 20 (almost 21) weeks along with my first (lil' boy). I was 11 months out when I found out I was pregnant. I still had about 30lbs to my goal. So this whole weight gain thing is starting to get to me a little bit (mentally and emotionally). I had gotten down to about 210 (from 299) and was 216 when I got pregnant and now I'm at 230. I know I'll be able to work on this again when the baby gets here but for right now, it's just challenging. Anyone else in the same boat? -
Sometimes I feel like I haven't even had surgery. I had surgery last March. I have gained a few pounds in the past couple of months because I can't seem to get myself back into an exercising routine and my eating has been crap. I feel lost. Like I'm not sure what to do even though I know all the basics and stuff. Has anyone else gone through this and gotten out of it? I've lost 88lbs (was at -92lbs) and I still have another 20-30 to go. I just feel so stuck. I guess I'm just trying to make sure I'm not alone in this. I don't look at the facebook groups I am a part of much any more because it makes me depressed to see everyone else's success stories that it never seems like they have any issues. I did c25k in the fall and got to where I could run for 30 minutes straight but then we went through a move and holidays, etc and I haven't exercised at all since November. I feel horrible but I can't seem to pull myself away from making bad decisions. Anyway. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
melissapaige84 replied to *Dean*'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
Help! It's been a week and a half since I have ran! I moved and don't have access to a treadmill right now and I had gotten so comfortable running that way. I live in a great neighborhood now where I've even mapped out a route but there's something that is incredibly intimidating about getting out there and running. Maybe it's the whole running in public thing? Maybe I feel like I will fail and won't be able to run other than on a treadmill? I have a 5k on November 30! I have to get moving ASAP. -
How long to get pregnant
melissapaige84 replied to BigFatLoser's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I am almost 8 months. I met with my ob/gyn and told her I wanted to start trying at the end of the year and she thought that was fine. Then when I had my 6 or 7 month follow up at my surgeon's office, she suggested I use some form of bc since I wasn't on the pill (we use condoms right now) and "we don't want you getting pregnant... but I mean, if you do, you do and we will work with you". So I take that to mean that yes it would affect my weightloss but I think I would be ok since I can eat 4oz at a meal and eat 1200 calorie a day. Sorry that was a long response lol but just my 2 cents -

Do you run every day? or every other day? I decided to start doing every other day and on the days I don't do c25k, I'll do the elliptical and strength training. I did that this morning and felt like I was cheating on my running program lol I didn't feel as awesome and energetic after I was done either...It was kind of a bummer. And it kinda stinks that My Fitness Pal doesn't give you credit (calorie burn wise) for strength training. -

Finished week 6 day 3 today Yay...22 minutes of jogging! Question for you guys. I've been doing about 95% of my workouts on the treadmill with a 1% incline. My first 5k is on November 30. We will be moving and should be in our new place by Nov. 16 and it's a great neighborhood for walking/running. I'm planning on doing my workouts outside on the weekends but since I have been getting up super early in the morning to run on the treadmill, I enjoy doing that and I know I'll actually get it done that way. Am I setting myself up for failure for my 5k since I haven't been doing it outside? Maybe I'm thinking too much about it.... -

3 months out & baby crazy!
melissapaige84 replied to tamarlarae's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I totally feel ya. I'm a little over 7 months out and I have baby fever bad. But I just started thinking of things that I want to do before I get pregnant and focus on those things. Like right now, I'm training to run a 5k. I want to be as healthy as possible when I do get pregnant so I'm just focusing on that. One of the main reasons I had surgery was so that I could start a family. I'm planning on trying at the end of the year (with the ok from my doctors). Good luck! -

I just completed week 5 day 3. I can't believe I just ran for 20 minutes straight. I was slow as molasses but I still can't stop smiling. -
Does anyone solely do their exercises at home? I get up now at 5am and walk down to my apartment gym to walk/run on the treadmill but I'm about to move and won't have that luxury. I don't want to join a gym because I want to work out early in the morning only and I know myself enough to know I won't drive that early. I have access to a treadmill when we move that I can have in my spare room so I was thinking about getting a couple of weights (dumbbells or kettlebells) and just making it a workout room. Does anyone else do this? Has it worked for you so far? or do you prefer using a dvd workout? hmm...

not pregnant but wanting advice.
melissapaige84 replied to betty20032001's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I totally feel ya. A big reason I had the sleeve (March 2013) was to get down to a healthy weight and hopefully get pregnant. I have PCOS as well (but there are some normal weight people that also have this too). My sister in law is pregnant with her second and it's so so hard for me to be happy for them but I'm trying. Most all of my friends have kids and I have felt very left out for years. I'll be 30 in April. I'm really praying next year is the year for me. -

This has been one of the best things I've done for myself physically (second to getting sleeved). I just completed week 5 day 1. I made it through and even jogged 6 minutes instead of 5 in the last segment but I think I'll do the same tomorrow. Not sure if I'm quite ready to move on yet but I will get there I feel awesome about myself when I get it done in the morning. And I registered for my first 5k yesterday (November 30!). -
What an inspiration! And how awesome that you could go on this journey together. You both look amazing! Congratulations on your success

I went through that dark place. No one warned me. But I went to see a counselor for a couple of months and it really helped to just talk through some things. Good luck...hang in there!

Thanks. I'll try scaling back and see how that works. I want to build my endurance and make it through the program (and hopefully beyond) so I appreciate the advice. -

Walking at 3.5. Jogging at 5. Incline at 1. I didn't really think that was too fast. I guess I should just tone it down a little until my body gets used to the exercise. I'm bad at being all or nothing. -

I just finished week 2 day 1 (for the second day in a row). Will my lungs catch on as I progress? Right now, it's all I can do to make it the 90 seconds because my lungs don't want to cooperate and I get so out of breath. Any advice for that one? -
