Surgery scheduled for June 27th 2008
davies replied to gluon's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome & congratulations on your impending life changing surgery. I share your fear as I have deep set veins & the nurses & even anaethetists took 4 attempts to get my IV in. I know its easy for me to say as been banded 11 months now but if you can see past the needle to your new you then it makes the thought a lot more promising. Good Luck Paula -
Hiya, I dont take Vitamins in tablet form but do drink Multivitamin juice. Goes down easily & no heartburn. I have been banded 11 months now & lost 56 pounds & went through a stage where my hair & skin were crappy. I did try the evervescent Vitamin C that my surgeon gave me but it just made me gag. Sounds crude but the juice serves its purpose in more ways than one as since banded I cannot digest fruit. Good luck with your ckoice Paula

U must be Psychic, I am having the same, but was told that post surgery pre-fill is just like not having a band there coz theres no restriction. The changes happen when the band is filled, hopefully xx

Hi, I am from Worcester. I was banded 26th May 2007 in Birmingham. xx

I was worried too about lifting as I look after my 8 month old nephew twice a week. I didnt lift him for a week but found if i lifted from my tummy not my chest, if you understand what i mean, then i didnt pull my wounds. The hoovering is still a problem as i tend to twist. Try & do a trial lift, i did with a buggy, to know how much & how long you can stay upright. Good luk xx

Anybody have a BMI of less than 35 before Lap Band Surgery?
davies replied to ReneeMarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I was banded on 26th May 2007 with a BMI of 30.7. I have lost 18 pounds since & will have to wait for my first fill end of July to get any restriction. I didnt think my consultant would agree to do it but he did. Please bear in mind I am a self pay & it has cost 8000 which has included all fills, diet plan, advice & 24 hour bariatric nurse assistance for a year. -
Funny you say that, i'm the same, I am 10 days post op & my nurse said as I heal v well & feel v settled I can try some mushies, in moderation, I immediately went back to the shakes & yoghurt after trying a bit of Pea & Ham soup!! Must be psychological but i am airing on the side of caution xx

Peppermint tea & a hot bath to soak ure lower tummy, never thowt it would work but itr really really does!!! I suffered between 2-6 days post op to the point i cud barely stand up. 10 days post op now & not even a rumble!! xx

How soon can my husband & I be intimate?
davies replied to annielkd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I waited 2 days n that was only coz i cudnt move properly with the trapped wind, Hmm thats attractive!!. You have to be a little careful of positioning, if you know what i mean. I cudnt bare my husband to lie on me coz my scars were sore, but hey, where there a will, theres a way, hee hee. -
Dont let him make you feel like that, his loss not ures!! U are doing wonderfully well & I would b so chuffed to lose 28 ounds, thats a massive acheivement. As for the binge, its gonna happen sooner or later but what a massive difference your binge would have made to a pre-band binge. Keep smiling, men come & go, you choose who you want to keep!! xx

On post-op diet but have NOT stuck to it HELP!
davies replied to livinitup's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 26th May & my port is still swollen, I agree totally with Jachut, the chances of any damage are minimal as you would have brought back everything & been in terrible pain, but i would fess up to your surgeon & see what he/she says. I too am struggling on liquids but too scared to eat normal food & to be honest dont feel hungry enough for anything except a youhurt, mousse or soup xx -

Should I be able to feel Port outside skin?
davies replied to sweet_thang0792's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My port is sticky out, I was banded on 26th May & my nurse says its normal as can stay swollen for a long time. Mine is placed high up nearly under my boobs & when i breathe in its like something out of Alien!!! Happy with my Alien tho xx -
Miso Soup is like a stock based soup. I have vegetarian & vegan friends who use it regularly as a soup or to add to other meakls. No lumps or floating food in it. completely safe xx

Hi Audree, I was banded on 26th May 2007 with a BMI of 30.7 which is usually unheard of in England but i did have contributing factors. Its wonderful to see everyones progress & massive amounts of weight they have lost. My loss will not be massive in pounds but will be massive to me. Thank you for reaching out - its a lifeline amongst the liquid diet, wind, ports hole & over all crappiness feeling - but I know its gonna be worth it. Paula xx

1 day post-op and the gas PAIN...
davies replied to jeejee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pepermint tea worked for me as I had wind for 3 days post op & i honestly thowt i would never stand straight again!!! -
Please dont worry about the enjoyment of eating issue, I was banded 26th May & i am actually enjoying that i am not thinking about food 24/7 & even if i was i coulnt have it. If you have been obsessed about food like forever then it is sooooo nice not to be hungry for a change & focus everything around whether you should eat or not then feeling guilty. Its no walk in the park having the surgery & recovery but you would not belive how much more time you actually have when food isnt the goal. I wish you luck as its certainly worked for me so far xx

davies replied to cyndilou29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hee hee dont we ever!! I rarely drink cold drinks a i find them really obvious to swallow if you know what i mean. try warm drinks, i have tea, peppermint tea, soup & hot chocolate, remember I live in england so i need my Hot Drinks for warmth, lol. If i have a sore mouth sugar free icepoles or popsicles are gr8 & they also have about 1oz Fluid, better than nothing eh. keep smiling -

davies replied to cyndilou29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please dont be too scared, i was banded on 26th may & I can barely get 2 ounces a sitting down. I have 2 ounces of shake 10am, the same about 3pm, half a cup of Soup at 5pm, half a cup of hot choc at 10pm. i can manage 2 or 3 half a cup of tea during ther day & virtually no Water. I am not uncomfortable about my intake & as long as you are not feeling light headed or sickly dont be too afraid. Treat your band as a new child/pet & learn from its restrictions dont push 2 hard 2 soon. Hope this helps xx:) -

I was banded 26 May 2007 & I am in the full liquids stage. I kinda liquidize everything, shakes with ice cubes, banana, strawberries & yoghurt. My surgeon told me as long as I can get it up a straw I can have it. First couple of days I havent really wanted anything as ive been too scared but things settling down. I have been eating frozen yoghurt & ice poles, they help me with the sore mouth. Onwards & downwards (weight wise) :clap2::clap2:

peppermint tea is good & massaging the ribs. My nurse told me its wind & the tea has done it for me. I was banded 26th may & so far so good xx

Need suggestions on liquids....
davies replied to Melanie_in_MN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
have you tried chocolate shake with banana & bio natural youghurt liquidized with ice cubes. If you leave it 2 stand 4 10 minuets it goes like a thick mousse. I was banded on 26th MAY & also eat icepops by the dozen, they help with the sore mouth.
