This is a good time to stand up for yourself and let your mother know that this is not acceptable.....Do not use you messages, make the statement like, "Mom, it really hurts me when you tell me to go get something to eat when we have an argument." Say it in a loving caring way and set a good boundary. It's hard to recognize triggers to our over eating and this is a good time to start. It's gonna be hard but say it and then walk away and self soothe yourself by taking a walk...... This is the beginning of a new journey to a more healthier relationship with family and food. You can do this. Sometimes it good to get a therapist that can teach you new coping skills and be a healthy support system for you.

I don't know...this doesn't seem very reasonable to me but I guess a lot of it depends on your level of restriction. I am only able to eat about 2 ounces at a time, so 3 meals and no Protein supplements just doesn't work for me. My nut even said that I need to set an alarm on my phone to eat every 2 hours or so, which would put me at maybe 6 meals a day? I think it also depends on the person and how they feel post-op. I am not really big on eating anymore, nothing tastes the same and I am slightly afraid of trying new foods. I have not been a limit or sleeve tester at all. I say try the doc's way and if you are having negative effects or not losing then try your own?

3 meals a day, no snacking is what my doctor recommends as well. Right now, I'm only 3 weeks out, and I can't eat enough at meals to get enough proteing/calories in. I've been told to supplement with Protein Shakes until I can eat 3-4oz of Protein at a time. I expect in a few more weeks, I'll be able to get in the nutrients I need, and cut down on the supplements.< /p>

I have to eat every 3 hours or I literally feel sick. I don't eat full meals, but I have something, like a piece of cheese or a few slices of deli meat. I eat about 1000 calories a day or so...don't really keep track. I have lost 141 pounds so far. I also exercise regularly. I think the exercise is more important then anything. I lose so much more when I get it in regularly. Good luck.

I think the main reason for restricting caffeine is dehydration. It is a big deal initially after surgery, but not that big of a deal later on.

I think it's a great bday present to yourself! I'm almost 3 weeks post-op and today is my wedding anniversary. My birthday is in a couple of weeks, and Valentine's day was about a week after my surgery. Normally we would have celebrated all of those days with dinners out, but I have sort of enjoyed focusing more on the occasions this year and not worrying about the food that goes with them (I don't really like birthday cake that much anyway!). I am thinking for my bday we will go out for Mexican food and I will eat some refried Beans and maybe a little guac. That will be my first meal out. May try it as carry out first, just to avoid any possible issues.
I hope you have a great surgery and a very happy birthday!!!!

I went out today and finished up my clothes shopping for work. I went to Salvation Army today and got 10 pairs of pants for 5.00 (usc). They were actually 49 cents each. I got some of the sizes I was missing. So if they dont fit or whatever..... I'm out 50 cents each lol

I had my surgery two weeks before my birthday. Was kind of in a funk but ended up having a sugar free ice cream bar and I was ok with that. Turned out better than I thought.

My husband had his VSG surgery ON his actual birthday (he was 41) and he will be two years post-op this coming March 7th. I thought it was kind of goofy that he planned it for his birthday but he says it's the best birthday present he could have ever given himself.
He had a couple of nurses that actually connected the dots so he got a couple of happy birthday wishes from hospital staff.

They do since its a diuretic. ... a lot of caffeine will dehydrate you is why they don't really want you drinking it.

a nice way to use tofu.....squeeze the excess liquid out of tofu. then slice it 1/4 slices. layer in a pan with a little sauce and part skim mozz cheese.bake in oven. if you want a meatier texture..freeze tofu first......

My edamame is roasted & crunchy. I buy it at the store. I get it at a local grocery store. They have it in pretty much any health food store. I am from the North East & Shoprite, Hannaford and Stop & Shop all carry them. My NUT said the lightly salted or wasabi coated ones are fine. I was sleeved November 27th so, 2 days from now is my 90 day surgiversary. During my puree/soft foods stage my NUT okayed Hummus & Tofu. Sabra even makes their Hummus in single serving containers in packs of 4. I track my food on My Fitness Pal & I seem to average around 700 calories a day. I am ashamed to say that I haven't exercised at all except for 1 yoga class. I am starting today, though, because my BF & I just booked our vacation starting April 29th. I would really like to be down 100 lbs. by then. The first few weeks post-op can be rough, but just stick to the program & you'll so just fine. Feel free to message me anytime if you have veg questions or are struggling or whatever. Best of luck to you!

Like this thread. Been exploring different foods made quinoa with vegetable broth. Got some firm tofu, going to "fry" it in peanut oil. I am excited about making this work for me. I do have some food issues I DO NOT do onion, garlic or peppers.
I am going to find a soyburger recipe (I used to make them back in day when I was "into" health food)
Please post any recipes would love to try chili.

I got sleeved on 2-21. Getting through the four days post op was difficult . Today is the first full day home and I'm not feeling too bad. I'm just learning what my stomach can fit and being diligent about my liquid intake. There was a couple if times I thought is this pain worth it? But I'm seeing the light on the other side as if today. I had an allergic reaction to anesthesia so my surgery took really long my family was totally freaked out. I can say I feel like the worse is over. Hope everyone is healing easy and happily! It's great to read about everyone's experiences .

I just had to laugh when I saw your reply, Laura. I don't remember what we were watching on TV, but I looked at my BF & said, "I'm in big trouble if I ever needed to run for my life". LOL. Soon maybe we can. My boyfriends sister lost close to 100 lbs on her own. She just started running & doing 5ks. Her husband is a Triathelete & just did The Ironman in Arizona in November. Once my weight goes down a little more I won't have much choice but to run. The two of them are already planning at what date they thing they might get me ready for my first 5k! Yikes!
