Way to go, Tigerbelle!!!!!!

Leftover morning coffee + Almond Roca SF Torani syrup + Premiere Protein vanilla shake + fresh ground nutmeg = delicious 30g of protein too and nowhere near the cost of Starbucks.

There's something called the "three week stall" which started for me at two weeks. Hang in there--your body is adjusting. Look at it this way--even if you don't lose until 4 weeks, that's an average 5 pound per week loss. Keeping rocking it.

smoking cigarettes 2 weeks post op? thoughts?
TES replied to miss_lalaaa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm assuming part of the reason you got VSG was to decrease your risk of (or existing) comorbidities of obesity and to help give you a longer, healthier life. So smoking would kind of defeat the purpose, wouldn't it? On the bright side, if you die young from bladder cancer, lung cancer or just suffer for years with COPD, you will probably be doing it in a smaller clothing size. So no, I wouldn't start smoking. -
Help! Need to lose 4 lbs before my surgery!
TES replied to TN_Vols_MiMi's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You could do Atkins induction, which is mostly protein, tons of water, and no more than 20 g of carbs a day. I am certain you will lose 4 lbs and then some if you do it....and it's still regular food. You will be rocking the liquid diet after the surgery, so if your surgeon doesn't require that, you might as well do something with a high success rate that allows you to eat. Just google Atkins induction sample menu and plenty will come up. You will feel crappy for a couple of days (good to start on a weekend if you can) but it will pass. -
Wontons are Pasta and most plans don't allow pasta until at least 6 weeks. As someone said, if you feel you really need to get off the liquid diet, I might ask your RD or doctor about doing yogurt, SF pudding, etc. My liquid diet did not include those things and I stuck to it, because I didn't want to develop a leak. I know that it's stressful and that's why you are probably lashing out at people here who are just trying to help you. I remember crying about 1 week post-op while I was drinking my Protein hot chocolate and I could hear my husband crunching tortilla chips for what seemed like 3 hours (it was probably about 10 minutes). And I'm not someone who cries easily. I just wanted to CHEW. But I also knew that I just had major surgery and going off plan wasn't an option. This is an amazing gift you have been given and now isn't the time to experiment. I know it's tough, but please try to hang in there and follow your surgeon's advice. It's not like "cheating" on a regular diet or even a pre-op plan--it can be literally life and death. It's great that you ate the wonton and you were fine, but next time you might not be so lucky--so I would make sure there isn't a next time like that, especially less than 1 week post op. It might help if you are having head hunger to go to a support group or seek out some counseling. Wishing you all the best. This time will go more quickly than you think.

A mother daughter thing
TES replied to determined1103's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I need to call my mom and apologize for being a selfish teenager. In fact, we probably all should. I would tell your daughter that you are doing this in large part for her, so that you can live a long life and be around for her and maybe her kids if she decides to have them. Let her know that it may be better if you aren't both recovering from surgery at once. She should be grateful that she can get the surgery at all--many people aren't covered by insurance. The 6 months also can really help you mentally prepare and she also can get a jump start on her weight loss now. Hopefully you can walk together and eat healthfully together before and after your surgery and she'll be that much ahead when she has hers. Sending you good thoughts! -
being around food/food prep
TES replied to moonlitestarbrite's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't mind cooking for my family post-op, even while I was still on liquids, bc food just didn't look appetizing. I agree about making foods that aren't your favorites. Also maybe get some stuff for now that is more food you "prepare" vs cook--like Stouffer's lasagna instead of homemade lasagna...or whatever your family likes. Maybe Boston Market for a couple of nights--etc. -
I would definitely follow your surgeon's plan.... when does it allow mushies?

Most embarassing moment so far
TES replied to Ashlee K's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think this happens to almost everyone! My PA basically told us to expect it in pre-op. Mine started just as I was leaving the hospital (surgery on a Tuesday, left Thursday evening). It lasted for 2 weeks, which the PA also said to expect. I also carried spare clothes in my car for a while, just in case. Didn't need them but it was a good sense of security. -
are you pre-op or post op? 2 ounces of black beans has 9.5 carbs and about 5 g of fiber--not a lot even if you don't subtract the fiber. I had that for lunch today and I added some cheese and Morningstar veggie "meat"balls for more protein. Topped with diced raw sweet onions and diced red pepper, fresh cilantro and some plain yogurt. Very good and lots of protein, moderate carbs that can easily be worked into my allowance for the day.

wow, I may need to give LB another try. In the past when I've bought their bras (several years ago) I did not think that they were supportive enough. It sounds like they've improved them quite a bit.

I can eat a pudding cup in 1 sitting...Normal?
TES replied to TexasRed1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't you love that now that you are post-op, a "whole" pudding cup sounds like a LOT!? -
they dehydrate you so the loss is temporary--the last thing a dieter and/or sleever needs is dehydration....

yeah--you won't start feeling restriction until you are on solids. Pudding is sort of a slider, like yogurt. Don't worry.... -
Has anyone had a conversion from sleeve to gastric by pass ?
TES replied to sprinkles13's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm sooo sorry you are going through this. But I think that you should be very cautious about your next step and I'm not sure that I would jump right into another surgery especially only 5 weeks post op. Can you get a 2nd opinion from another bariatric surgeon and/or a gastroenterologist? GBP comes with malabsorptive issues and it's even easier to get dehydrated--and your body is still healing from the first surgery. Sending you healing thoughts. -
I mix a very small amount of beans with a protein like morningstar patties or soy protein crumbles. Top with cheese and plain yogurt. Lots of protein and minimal carbs. Plus it's good to get some fiber.

Wow, that is one of the most amazing transformations I've seen yet! Way to go!

Vegasneon, good thinking--I have noticed less hair loss since I added in a little olive oil, almond and avocado. Oh and marcona almonds--which actually seem to help me lose weight in small quantities. Obviously I don't eat all of these food on the same day.

Dang it. Walked every day this week and +4 lbs.
TES replied to chickadee73's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Probably water weight--I get that when I start a new exercise plan. Keep walking and drinking your water and keep the faith. -
I would ask your surgeon. Mine allows NSAIDs after surgey but I also take Prilosec, which is a gastric-protective agent. Actually, that's one of the reasons I wanted VSG instead of GB--bc it's generally more acceptable to take NSAIDs after VSG vs bypass (though my dr does allow his bypass pts to take them as long as they take with a gastric-protective agent). You may need to ask about taking something in liquid form for 6 weeks after surgery though. I got by with liquid tylenol for my first 1 or 2 cycles after surgery. BTW lots of people get their cycle right after surgery even if you're not due for it... I did.

why some bodies are better at turning food into fat
TES replied to TES's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hahaha--and as my mom says, if there's ever a famine again, we'll be the ones stepping over the bodies (doesn't sound too pleasant!) since our bodies are so metabolically efficient.
