Starting out in a "stall"... has anyone else experienced this?
Lori228 replied to tamigail7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right after surgery you tend to retain fluids from the surgery and swelling, etc. I was actually up 1 pound 1 week after surgery but then lost 12 pounds in 1 week. I was also sleeved the 28th and am at 20 pounds. I was worried the first week when some people were really losing but I feel much better now. I think any loss is a good loss as long as it does not ever come back. -
Sleeved March 8....New to the group
Lori228 replied to tkhicks's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome!! I am just a week earlier on February 28th. I have not had too much trouble and just learning what I can tolerate even with liquids. I just did a half day back to work today and will be back full time next week. Everyone was so excited for me and could tell a difference already (have lost 20 pounds). I am so glad to be a part of a process that is doable and workable and looking forward to finally getting and keeping the weight off. I sometimes wish I could have what my family is having, too, but I have to stay positive and just keep enjoying what I can have and in due time I will be eating what they have, just much less of it. -
Mashed potatoes 22 days out
Lori228 replied to Lina12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What does your plan suggest? I am on the stage 2 liquids for a month after surgery and then at 4 weeks out I start on the soft/pureed foods which includes mashed potatoes, etc. What is your diet progression like. Following your surgeon's diet plan is your best bet. I don't mind this phase and having to learn a lot with what I can handle before feeling full. I will start soft foods right before Easter so at least I can some of what the family is eating then. Hope this helps or makes sense. -
One year ago today my life changed!

Congratulations and thanks for sharing. I like the different things you have learned and I believe we all have a learning journey ahead of us, in many ways just like you. I am only two weeks out and it is very encouraging to see others progress. Continued success to you. -
Oh my gosh...APPROVED! (After being told verbally I would be declined.)

Good for you for sticking with it!! Good luck! -
If you wake up a lot at night you might find it comforting (after getting used to it) to be able to sleep. I hate to admit it but I actually like my cpap because I CAN sleep and not wake up and actually feel like I slept. If you do have to use it, it may be reversed with the surgery so it may be short lived. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise.

Surgery Tomorrow 3\11 what to bring to the hospital
Lori228 replied to Nyx2891's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took a robe and walking slippers since I heard we need to walk. They usually provide shampoo type stuff, but if you prefer your own that would be an option. I was only in overnight so some of the things I thought I would take for passing time was useless--no real time to entertain myself, either walking, drinking or sleeping. And don't forget iPad charger to keep in touch!! -
3 days post op...is this normal?
Lori228 replied to pammie37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Pammie, when I had my postop followup appointment my surgeon's main concern was not getting in all the protein, or even an exact number on the fluid, just as long as it was a good amount and I was not dehydrated. His main concern was not stressing the new stomach so keep in mind this is not an exact science, we all have differences in what we can take in, but do what is comfortable and getting the liquids right now is vital. Sorry you had that trouble but try to ease up because your new stomach is your main concern. Good luck. -
4 months out & no regrets ... Well maybe just one small one :)

My hubby the garbage disposal
Lori228 replied to ChristenOnAmission's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same problem and twice now in the last week we ended up in fast food places so he can get a burger and I order a milk so I can add my protein as I am only 8 days postop. He also munches on mini 3 musketeers (as I am typing this) and can eat ice cream like no other. The reality is you have to do whatever it takes for you to stay away from whatever it is not good for you. I am praying that in the future my new habits of moving more and exercising is going to keep me from sitting and munching with him like before, and if a quiet area will work for you then that might be the place. So far I am surviving, mainly because there is nothing I can do about it as I want more than anything my stomach to heal so there is no temptation there. But even preop I was starving and he ate--because he can. The sad truth is I will never be able to eat it and I have to deal with it but it is not only going to be at home but wherever I may be, at work, social situations, familiy gatherings. This sleeve is part of the equation, the other part is my head and I am praying that with those tools this will be very successful and I will be so happy about the new me that I will not want to be eating like him. That was the old me. I may miss it sometimes, but won't miss what I am losing--literally. -
It is good you repented and I hope you are not feeling too miserable. It is amazing to me what very little it takes to fill me and I am only a week out. I just started with runny cream of wheat, yogurt, soup today and could hardly do anything compared to what I was thinking. That is okay. Learning is going to be a forever journey I have a feeling, but one I am glad to undertake. Thanks for sharing your lesson with us.

I had a very specific diet that we did, 3 shakes a day, 1 Protein bar and 1 packet protein Soup and I could hardly choke down the soup and begged for options and she said I could add something such as salsa to the soup, which was tolerable in tomato, but also said I could add something up to 25 calories and I had a serving of green Beans twice to just get me over the hump. Not sure if it was the greatest choice but it did not cause harm and gave me a feeling of "food." Again, not sure what your doctor suggests but those were rules we had and adding salsa and green beans was within my rules. My feelings of hunger during preop diet were up and down, but I am one week postop and it was well worth it having a safe surgery. Good luck. Hang in there. It is well worth it.

I am one week out and just had my postoperative appointment and talked about the "bloating type feeling" and they said that is normal to have that type of swelling feeling as you are given the fluids during and after surgery and it is your body healing itself. It does get better and glad you are doing well.
-
So glad you are doing well Pammie. I am one week out today and it just seems to get a little better every day. One day at a time. So exciting to be on the healing side.
-
Good luck!! A great adventure ahead!! I am only six days out but glad I choice it.

It was a week ago I was in your boat being the night before. Just had my surgeon followup and am doing well. Anxious for that 40 pounds down myself, but am so glad to have had it done. I feel like I now have the right tool and truly am grateful for this opportunity. Good luck tomorrow. Pleaes drive safe.

If you have any of the number of things that a lot of us in this situation needing to lose weight have or close to having, losing weight makes a lot of those easier to handle and may even eliminate them and any doctor knows that. Every doctor I went to for whatever reason, arrhythmia, sleep apnea, etc., kept saying "If only you could lose weight." I think as long as you have tried to lose the weight on your own and have fallen short you would have a convincing argument for the sleeve. Good luck. Hopefully your doctor knows about it or you have some information to share. I am surprised by how many do not know so much about it, but they are learning.

Seemed like such a long wait is finally over! Went well, had a large hiatal hernia that was also fixed. Not a bad night until IV started beeping and needing new tube, etc., but otherwise doing pretty good. One thing is getting the hiccups when I drink just a little or a little air and then the pain throughout the chest is upped about 10 fold, but they don't last long. Love my ice chips. I just hope all those February sleevers I have been chatting with are doing equally as well and will talk more soon. So happy to be postop.

What's with rating personal profiles?
Lori228 replied to katikati's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I never saw the rating until you posted this so I went to look and could hardly see it because I have no stars. I would feel something if I knew what it meant but since I never knew those stars were there I am confused and I have never rated anyone else. I have liked posts and when I like your post that should mean something, right?? Oh well. I am glad I can learn from others here and hopefully share a little encouragement to somebody else. We are all stars here to me -

Congrats Sammi--That is great I just had my surgery last week and finally feel like I now have a chance. Very excited for the future. Keep up the great work! -
I, too, thought a time or two before surgery "can't I do this on my own---again?" but it was that again that kept making me realize that I needed a real tool, not a temporary one to help. I am only four days postoperative but am really excited and looking forward to the future. Fear and wonder prior to surgery is normal but I am so glad I am not postoperative instead of preoperative and NOW I can look forward. I am excited and ready. Good luck to you and your decision making. This is a great place to hear from people. I love being able to have this forum to connect with others in the same boat.
