I've thought about buying some miso Soup from the local Japanese Hibachi restuarant and then freezing it into 1 oz servings. Then just defrost when needed, but I can't seem to get an accurate number for Proteins. The calories range from 35-150 per serving (most servings shown are a cup) but the Protein goes from 1.5 all the way to 11 grams and so does the carbs. This is on the my fitness pal app. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/nutrition-facts-calories/miso-soup Any ideas?

Thinking of food makes me nauseous
mactrio replied to Readyforthisjourney-Jen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not alone. I was sleeved on 2/25/13 and food is the last thing on my mind. I have to force myself to eat and I only take a few bites. I barely get 100-200 a day. I drink about 40 -50 oz Water a day, no Protein drinks because I swell, bloat and vomit after 2 oz and then I can't drink anything for the rest of the day. I am not ever hungry, thirsty yes but sipping is hard. I want to drink but I get that weird pain in my chest if I drink or swallow too hard. My stomach was inflamed & the dr put me on Pepcid & mylanta daily. It has helped. Intake mylanta before I eat anything. I've only thrown up twice since I started the Pepcid. Good luck. -
I feel 100% better today!! I got sleeved on Monday. I would totally recommend Dr. Borland and the staff at the New Iberia Surgical Center (in New Iberia, Louisiana) they are all so nice & professional but friendly at the same time. I needed to be there by 8:30 Monday morning. I arrived about 8:15 and filled out some paperwork, put a bracelet on my wrist, then they called me to the back about 8:45 and and I was given a gown, the nurse asked asked my name, birthdate & reason I was there, then I was put on a stretcher, they did the IV, blood pressure cuff, and gave me a dose of stomach acid neutralizer (tasted like a very tart sweet tart) I was given an anti-inflammatory shot and something to dry out my mouth and then the anasteologist came in and talked to me and then the 2 surgical nurses talked to me and then the asst surgeon came in. They each asked if I had any questions or any concerns. Like I said they were very friendly & professional. I was wheeled to the OR and they put the mask on my face & next thing I know I'm waking up in recovery. I had a hard time staying awake and they kept giving me something for pain and it would knock me out. My surgery was finished by 12:30 but I was in recovery until 4:30 and I started waking up and I needed to pee really bad. I got up and was able to walk to the bathroom. I stopped at the sink and I rinsed and rinsed my mouth. It was yellow & gross. My cheeks were sticking to my teeth. The nurse gave me a cup of Water and I'd rinse and spit. My husband drove to the front of the surgical center and they wheeled me out to him. We checked into the Candlewoood Suites Hotel and Dr. Borland was there in about 10 minutes and he checked on me. Took temp, BP, checked incisions and gave me his beeper, home & cellphone numbers and told me to call if there were any problems, if I felt bad or had fever to call him. He told me to begin sipping around 9:00-10:00. I took tiny sips and managed ok that night. I had liquid lortab for pain, but it made me nauseated to take it. I got bad dry heaves. I had to wear the massage stockings on my legs (to prevent blood clots) and I had to get up every 2 hours and walk and sip water. I had to pee every couple hours anyway due to all the fluids they pumped into me. I walked around our room often and sipped slowly. The next morning I felt ok and the surgery center called to check on me. She told me to sip chicken broth, Gatorade, water, Clear Liquids, apple juice and ice chips. I tried chicken broth from a can and it was gross, I gagged on it. The apple juice was way to sweet, but the Gatorade was ok. My husband got me some ice from Sonic Drive In.They have soft small round ice and it practically dissolves on your tongue. I hurt a bit but was able to shower and I felt better. My stomache kept gurgling, making sounds and I felt like I needed to burp but couldn't. I used a gas x strip and it settled my tummy right away. The most pain was and still is in my belly button and my ribs hurt quite a bit. Day 2 was better than day 1. The ice chips make taking in my liquids easier. I used a spoon and would sip Gatorade & eat ice off the spoon. Also chewing the ice makes it feel like your eating. I am not hungry at all. In fact I feel full after a few spoons of ice. The doctor released me this morning and when I got home my mom had made a pot of chicken Soup and I sipped a bit of broth and I feel so much better. Day 3 really is a good day. I'm a bit sore but I am able to walk and move and sit up with minimal pain. This is the BEST decision that I ever made and I do not regret it one bit. If anyone is considering self pay I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Borland. I'm very satisfied and I have my follow up on Monday. I can't wait to see how much I have lost.

I had to have blood work, h pylori test, 2 chest x rays, EKG test. I brought the orders from Dr. Borland to my family doctor and he sent me to the local hospital to have the testing and that way my insurance paid for it.

I paid $200 for initial consultation, I had to pay $9,600 by cashier checks at least 1 week before my surgery date. I stayed at the Candlewood Suites with my husband. It had 2 beds, a lot of pillows, tv, recliner, desk, coffee pot, toaster, pots, pans, microwave, stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, ice maker and plates, bowls, utensils...they provided dish soap as well. The bathroom was nice size and very clean. My husband was able to heat up canned items or tv dinners for himself have to eat out every day. The doctor came to the hotel every day to check. Plan to stay until Wednesday morning at least. You will need to see him 1 week post op so it might be better to stay in town the full week instead of driving home & then driving back 4 days later. After that I had to see him 2 weeks after the first appt. and I will see him again on 4/1. I live 35 minutes away. A friend who lives in Mississippi had surgery the same day and for the 3 week post op appt she did a conference call with him. Good luck!!!

Surgery - What to expect? :/ TMI!
mactrio replied to HOLLAND's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had a c section because my big baby (9 lbs 4 oz) was stuck (feet in ribs) and they had to keep cutting. My scar is 14" long. I've had gallbladder surgery I have pins, plates & screws in my left ankle I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed (I was out, iv and all) And this was by far the easiest surgery I've had. The worst part for me was the nausea. The liquid lortab made me throw up so I had no pain meds after I left Hospital that night. (I did out patient) I had trouble drinking because of the nausea but the pain was minimal. And I am a big baby!! I do not deal with pain well at all. It's not bad. My tummy was sore & bruised but I wasn't in pain. A twinge here & there and my belly button was sore but on a scale of 1-10 I'm honestly saying a 3. I suffer from RA, fibro, Sjögren's syndrome and osteoarthritis and those pains are far worse than this surgery pain. -
On Monday I was 35 lbs down. So I lost 5 this week.

3 weeks and I'm still on soft foods, salads, lettuce, seeded veggies & raw veggies are on my after 4 months list. Check with your doctor or nutritionist but I think 3 weeks is way too soon for raw veggies.

My Top 5 "No No" Foods @ 1 Month Post Op
mactrio replied to EweLewz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 25 days post op and I had soft scrambled eggs once, I chewed until it was mush, I had about 4 bites but they sat heavy for hours. I've had chicken salad a couple times but its not my favorite, the chicken is hard to eat even when shredded. I have not tried bread or crackers yet. I made home made beef stew for my family last week & I mashed up a chunk of potato & carrot and blended with gravy really well and I ate that. I can handle refried Beans ok and I've had chicken broth... My doctor put me on 2 more weeks of soft mushy foods because my stomach is inflamed. (I threw up everything for over a week) He took me off Prevacid and put me on Pepcid and told me to take either mylanta or pepto before meals. It has helped and I'm even able to drink more liquids now that my tummy is being coated. I'm sticking to my doctors diet and I haven't cheated at all. I'm not eating anything that isn't on my list. In 25 days I've lost 35 lbs. I keep sipping Water all day. -
I'm 23 days post op and I am in the middle of a fibro flare and my RA is in overdrive. I can not take any of my medicines (pills are too big to swallow) and after I grind them and try to take them I vomit them up. I've just been doing ice/heat and using arthritis creams as well. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

20 days post op food/liquid intake problems
mactrio posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm hoping that I still have a very swollen stomach and that is why I can't eat/drink a lot. I've tried 5 different Protein drinks and after 1 or 2 ounces (takes over an hour to drink) I am so full that I can not drink or eat ice chips for hours afterwards. If I try to drink anything even an hour later, I vomit and it is not easy. It's hard, forceful dry heaves and then foamy Protein Drink comes back up. Protein powder, premade shakes...they are all the same reaction. I'm on creamy Soups, refried Beans, chicken salad etc..this week. I have not cheated or eaten anything that isn't on my list from my doctor. I am not hungry at all and nothing even looks appetizing. This is what I've had today & yesterday and that has been basically what I've had everyday for 2 weeks. One day I had shredded chicken mixed with plain greek yogurt & eggs to make a runny chicken salad. 1/4 cup mashed potatoes & gravy 16 oz bottle of Water (working on bottle 2) 3-4 spoons (reg size spoon) of creamy tomato Soup (blended with Greek plain yogurt & a piece of babybel cheese) 16 oz cup of ice chips 3/4 of a sf Popsicle (the type in the plastic tube) Yesterday I ate 1/4 c refried beans with 1/2 tsp shredded cheese 2 bottles water 1 cup of ice chips 1 chunk of carrot & 1 chunk of potato mashed and mixed with gravy from homemade beef stew 5 spoons of Greek vanilla yogurt I can't take any of my medicines (they still need to be crushed) I mix with applesauce and nibble slowly but I have thrown up every time. I quit everything last week and I'm hoping my doctor will allow me to swallow pills tomorrow. I'm having bad fibro flares, my RA is acting up, I have Sjogren's Syndrome as well so being off meds is really bad. -
20 days post op food/liquid intake problems
mactrio replied to mactrio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Saw my doctor today. I'm 21 days post op today and I'm down 35 lbs. he told me my stomach is inflamed (which is why I'm throwing up so much) so I need to take Pepcid and mylanta or pepto liquid and then try to eat and drink after my tummy calms down. I still can not take whole pills, I either have to grind them or take dissolvable or liquid. I will stay on Clear Liquids, creamy foods, runny beans, thinned yogurts etc for another 2 weeks. He said not to worry about meeting protein requirements that my body will feed off itself and will get what it needs during the next few weeks. The good news is that I'm down 35 lbs (31 since day of surgery) and I'm only 16 lbs away from my first goal. -

20 days post op food/liquid intake problems
mactrio replied to mactrio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you. I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow so I hope he says all is fine. -
Who did your surgery? Did your dr tell you to take Prilosec or another acid reducer? The cravings are probably head hunger, but I am in no way an expert. I'm 20 days post op and I've had no cravings and I haven't been hungry at all. I get lots of tummy gurgles but the dr told me its stomach acid and its my new stomach waking up and getting feelings back after being cut. He prescribed Prilosec My problems right now aren't being hungry (thank goodness) it's not being able to drink enough fluids or eat enough to maintain my protein requirements. The protein drinks make me so full and bloated & gross feeling, after an ounce or two that I can't even sip water or eat ice chips for several hours afterwards.

How far out are you post op? I'm in Louisiana too and my Dr is in New Iberia and my food plan shows seafood weeks 4-5. Crawfish will probably be 3-4 tails depending on size and amt you normally eat.

how many pounds at 5 weeks?
mactrio replied to SunshineGirlG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 weeks 6 days post op (2/25/13) and I'm down 34.4 lbs. I go to the dr on Monday so I'm hoping I've lost more. -
I was sleeved on 2/25/13 (33.6 lbs down) and I still do not get 60-70 oz of liquids in. I've tried 5 different Protein drinks and after I drink an ounce or 2 I am so full and bloated that I feel sick and I can't drink or even eat ice chips for hours. Then I end up getting dehydrated so I quit the Protein Drinks. I have been adding unflavored Greek yogurt to my food. I mix up 4 tbsp refried Beans, add a bit of cheese (about a teaspoon) and then add a tbsp of yogurt to the beans. Then I heat a bit at a time and eat on it slowly. I mixed unflavored Greek yogurt into oatmeal, I drink skim milk, I know potatoes are carbs but mix some yogurt and skim milk into mashed potatoes and eat slowly. Buy flavored greek yogurt and thin with milk. I made chicken salad too, I used canned chicken in Water and put it in my food processor to shred really fine, I then added a couple of boiled eggs and shredded them too. I mixed it together with the unflavored Greek yogurt and made it kind of runny. I haven't made tuna salad yet, but will make it the same way. I made beef stew for my family and I mashed a carrot & a potato chunk in a bit of the gravy and ate that. I haven't made this yet, but a friend did and she raved about it. Baked ricotta 8oz ricotta 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese 1t. Italian seasoning 1lg egg Salt and pepper 1/2 cup marinara sauce (I used 1/2 cup sun dried tomato alfrado sauce 1/2 cup low fat mozzarella cheese Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese, beaten egg, and seasonings together. Place in oven dish pour sauce over top then top with mozzarella cheese. Bake 450 for 20-25 min. 6 servings 88 cal. 4 fat. 3.3 carbs and 9.2 protein Here is another recipe (I haven't tried it yet) Lemon Ricotta Creme Take one 15 oz. container of part skim ricotta cheese, add the zest of one lemon, juice of half the lemon, 1.5 teaspoons of vanilla extract and 4 packets of splenda - puree until smooth I hope you feel better soon.
