I am in NO way an expert. I was sleeved on Monday (2/25/13) but I do have a question. If your doctor, nurse or nutritionist told you to stay on Clear liquids for 1 week post op and then to do creamy liquid drinks (no food) for week #2 and then to do creamed/mushy foods for week #3 then WHY in the world do so many 'cheat' yourselves in week 1? Or week 2? You have had MAJOR stomach surgery why would you put yourself in danger by trying to eat food before your stitches are heeled? Before your stomach is healed? You had this lifestyle changing surgery to help you to get healthy, why try to intentionally eat and hurt yourself? Like I said I am in NO way an expert, but I chose my doctor based on research and I intend to follow his directions and suggestions. I must be one of the lucky ones because I have had 'no hunger' so far. (6 days out) now maybe tomorrow I will be starving, who knows; but I am COMMITTED to making my surgery a success and I will follow my dr's orders.

LOL - I'm very new to this board, and I have received so many great tips & recipes and wonderful advice. I just realized that as I have been reading in the past few weeks, it is mostly about head hunger. I worked on that more than anything in the weeks before my surgery. I suffer from insomnia and head hunger plays into that. So in the weeks prior I drank water, ate ice, ate sf jello and the stuff I knew I could have during my clear liquids stages. IDK if it will help 7 or 8 weeks out but I'm trying my best to remain positive and to use my liquids for my head hunger. I'm not perfect and I hope I didn't offend anyone with my subject topic. I'm just trying to understand why they don't want to follow orders?

I was sleeved Monday and I'm doing great. Things that I have discovered. Warm homemade chicken Soup is good for your cold, but maybe not for a newly sleeved tummy. No matter how much I strained my broth it still had the greasy chicken fat residue. I soaked it up with a slice of bread and some of that residue was still there. My tummy hurt after I sipped a few teaspoons. Bad gas pains. Warm tea (w/ Splenda) helps to settle nausea Ice chips are my new best friend. Slow sips of Gatorade or apple juice off a spoon or from a 1 oz cup is easy. Every 15 min drink an ounce. Sf Jello allows you to chew, as does Ice. I'm not as dizzy & lightheaded as I was last night. I feel better.

I'm able to drink an oz every 15 min now. I'm having warm/hot tea right now. I have a bottle of apple juice that I want to finish by 2 pm. I'm too cold to eat a Popsicle. But I will do at least 6 today/tonight. I will do at least one snack size cup of sf jello today too. Small goals. -
Oh no! Use a gas x strip. I'm watching the clock & every 15 minutes I'm drinking an oz. I just had the best pink Popsicle. It's the kind in a clear tube. It was soooooo easy to eat it. I've got 6 oz of Gatorade down, two oz of water & a bunch of ice chips since 7 pm. I feel alot better.

I'm having a rough day. I'm struggling to drink more than an ounce an hour. I managed 2 1/4 oz in 70 minutes but I feel so full that I am miserable. I sip small amounts of Water, Gatorade, chicken broth, tea, I had Jello (all sugar free) and I have been eating small ice chips from Sonic drive in (they have soft small round cubes) but I feel weird. Very lightheaded, weak and now I think I might be catching a cold. I keep coughing and coughing. I've used my rescue inhaler twice today. My pulse is 96 and my BP is 105/72 and my blood sugar is 97 and my temp is 98.7. Any suggestions?

Sleeved wednesday - home today!
mactrio replied to cj6444's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr told me to crush any pill (tums, vitamins, Tylenol) for 3 full weeks after surgery. He told me that the sleeve won't tolerate whole pills. -

Apple juice or Gatorade is what I mix to my crushed med's. I was sleeved on Monday and can't have applesauce for 2 more weeks. -
My dr told me no protein until Monday. I'm shakes & weak and I know it's because I have no 'food' in my body. My BP & blood sugar levels are good. I'm still not getting 3 oz of liquids an hour. I'm trying, I'm just full!!! I hope I stay full forever. I don't even want to see food right now.

Just stay hydrated. And walk. I'm feeling weak today (post op day 4) and have felt lightheaded & dizzy, my tummy hurts if I drink too much. Just keep sipping small sips every 1-2 minutes. I wish you tons of success!!

I'm on day 4 post op, I've got 5 incisions, I'm down 18 pounds and 11 since surgery on Monday. At times I feel like crud and ingest weakness and shaky but I drink a bit and it goes away. On Monday I get to begin my Protein drinks so I'm sure I'll feel better then. -

No no no!!! No real food week one. You could tear your stomach or get something stuck in the stitches. Drink Clear liquids, broths, chew ice, eat a popsicle. I'm not hungry at all and have family eating around me all the time. You've got to be prepared for a few rough spots. You can do this!! -
February Sleevers how are you?
mactrio replied to sleeping beauty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Monday and I am on clear liquids, juice, water, sf jello, popsicles, broth, gatorade until Monday Mar 4, then proteins will begin. I'm not hungry at all but my tummy gurgles and makes all kinds of weird sounds so I use a gas x dissolvable strip and it settles it. -
I hope you feel better Julie. Dr B told me no whole pills for 3 weeks. I crushed my sleeping pill and dissolved it in juice and sipped it off a spoon, I did the same with my fibro med's and my hormone pills. I haven't taken anything since Sunday so my body is reacting to the med's being taken away. So tomorrow I will reintroduce my savella, prempro, flexeril, ambien & Mobic. I'm hoping everything will be ok tummy wise if I space them a couple hours apart and drink after each. Tonight I drank 3 oz in 2 hours and I'm almost finished with 2 oz apple juice and I have an entire cup of crushed ice and I just keep eating small pieces. Earlier I felt like crud, but I got up and walked a bit, then I stood and sipped Gatorade and apple juice every 1- 2 minutes and I felt better. I'm still not sleepy but I'm going to go lay down and read for a while.

mactrio replied to alexis101sleeved's topic in Food and Nutrition
I was sleeved on Monday and my doctor has me on clear liquids, water, Gatorade, sugar free apple juice, white grape juice, jello, Popsicles, crushed ice...he told me not to worry about proteins at this time, to just stay hydrated. I return for my 1 week visit on Monday and then will begin creamy proteins for a week. I think Grits & oatmeal should be week 3 or 4 not week one. -

Very little pain from the incisions, my belly button is sore, but it is getting better every day. I'm down 11 pounds since Monday morning. I'm constantly eating ice chips, I've been sipping on lemon zinger tea, Water, Gatorade and sf Jello. -
Thank you

I just had surgery on Monday and I don't regret it at all!! Good luck! -
Yesterday I was sleeved. Last night was rough. The liquid pain meds made me dry heave. So I mixed a bit with Water and sipped that. I have been taking tiny sips of water. Apple juice made me sick. I'm sipping Gatorade & in about an hour I'll try Soup broth. My pain is manageable even without taking the full dose of meds. I've been up and walking. I just had a shower (I have to use dial soap) last night I woke up every 2 hours to pee and walk. Hopefully tonight I can sleep longer.

24 hours ago i was sleeved
mactrio replied to mactrio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's honestly not that bad. It's more of an entire torso pain than incision pain. It's like when you're sick & cough until your ribs hurt. A couple times I swallowed to quickly and instantly felt nauseated. The dr wants me to drink 2oz every few hours but I'm managing about an oz. good luck!! -
OMG - 10 hours till surgery and I am STILL in the bathroom. Those 20 oz of magnesium citrate are working. I did liquids for 24 hours, yesterday I ate very little & drank a shake, Friday I ate very little and drank shakes. How in the world is there this much inside of me. Good news is that from consult to now I've dropped 17.6 pounds on my own!! He didn't give me a diet to follow. I'm proud of my self.
