    Newly sleeved 2.28.13

Also vitamins are yuckies!!! I find consuming them crushed are worse than the actual surgery itself - yesterday I took them with jello - HORRIBLE! Today I crushed them up into a bowl and mixed a sugar free Popsicle into a slushy and it was tolerable - ate it with a spoon.

    Newly sleeved 2.28.13

I don't feel as much pain when I swallow - although I do find if I sip too much too fast it does cause slight discomfort. Just take intake of fluids slow. If you feel discomfort try slowing down a little. I've also read that some people have different tolerances for temperature for fluids after the surgery such as some people tolerate cold fluids better than room temperature. On second note - I've read cold liquids (h2o) increases the metabolism. I worry about over doing it too, but I try to listen to my tummy and take small, slow sips where as before the surgery I could finish a three liter bottle of Water in a 1 hour & a 1/2. Also - another suggestion sugar free Popsicles may help you too! If your MD allows them. It will increase calories ( depending on how many you are getting a day) and help increase your Fluid in take just take it slow and chew it to a slush consistency. & congrats on being sleeved on the 28th! I haven't met many people who are so I'm always happy to hear people have had it on the same day! How are you feeling?

Proton pump inhibitors such as Prevacid, etc - that's the one my Dr. Prescribed and they have them in dissolvable form.

    Newly sleeved 2.28.13

I've seen a lot of people say that Proton Pump Inhibitors help with the constant feeling hungry sensations because sometimes it really is just acid. Maybe talk to your dr about that? Personal wise - to help with gas I walk throughout my house all day about every hour and a half - two hours and find it relieves the gas pains much easier. So walking really does help. I've also read some people use Gas-X strips which I've read helps however, I have not personally tried these! Hope this helps!

Wish I did have a suggestion. I am getting close to maybe 40 oz of fluid and 30g of protein give or take some. I constantly try to sip ALL day while I'm awake. Powerade Zero has helped me increase my fluid intake because Crystal Light has changed flavor wise to me. This probably doesn't help lol but just what I do all day. I feel so full quickly now, but constantly try to push to promote healing. Perhaps flavors have changed for you as well? And if you tried something else your taste buds take a liking to you will be more apt to drink more?

    Herb Ox

Good luck to you! Please post on how you are doing! Prayers your way! I was sleeved 2.28.13 - the broth has made me feel a world of difference today. SF Popsicles has helped me so much pre-op I've only had one an a half post op. powerade zero ( my surgeon lets me have) has also helped too!

Beef broth for clear liquids is yummy and my sleeve likes it!

    Herb Ox

I've bought a couple. Didn't really care for Swanson Chicken Broth. I have a local store brand kind that is tolerable (chicken). Yesterday, after I passed my swallow study - they gave me Herb Ox Beef Broth and I really liked it. Today, my mom went to the store and found the beef and chicken kind. Almost tastes comparable to Ramen Noodles without the noodles. One packet = 5 calories and 1 carb. I haven't tasted the chicken yet. Made by Hormel and one box comes with 8 packets. A little excited because I am on the liquid diet for another two weeks.

    Im ready but very nervous.

My surgeon did explain to me the probability of getting on the freeway and risking death as opposed to this surgery. He was very comforting and I must say that plays a big factor too. Feeling the way you are feeling is normal. Frankly, just like my surgeon said - I'd be more worried if you weren't worried. This is a big step! I talked to all my friends that I have done it and they say the only regret was waiting as long as they did. Good luck to you!

    Im ready but very nervous.

A roller coaster of emotions. I went from crying about the surgery to being excited about the opportunity that lies ahead of me, to praying, to threatening to call it off, to having anxiety, to mourning food and the social events I was going to miss out on if I get it, to freaking out about mishaps that could happen before surgery, and more. I had went through the 6 months of seeing a general MD and doing a diet - importantly as you will get the hang of real quick is that this not only physical this is mental too. The mind plays awful tricks. I did go through with the surgery, with the help of prayer, family, and friends. I knew that my weight and addiction to food had spiraled so far out of control and I knew if I backed out this opportunity might not be here next year or whenever I decide to do it again and I also realized my health will only decline from here if I keep on the road I'm on. My surgery day was 2.28.13 - I was so nervous about anesthesia but once I got into pre- op I remember putting an oxygen mask on and that's it. I woke up and I said 'is it all over?' In the OR. I've not experienced any nausea thank God, pain has been about a 2-3 the whole time,I walk, sip fluids, and use an incentive spirometer all day. Vitamins tastes yuckies. I tolerate everything well, just get full very quickly. I'm 21 - 5'9", SW 326 CW 303 - co morbidities - elevated lipids, Hypertension, and PCOS. Good luck! Feeling nervous is completely normal & when in doubt - pray!

    Thursday sleevers?

I'm having mine tomorrow too! Good luck!
  12. I bought it also. My thoughts on it are no, it's not worth 5.39/bottle. The green one - apple melon I think it is was probably the best. The red one - the worst. They do have a disgusting aftertaste, in general, it is an acquired taste. However, for the calorie count & for the no carbs mixed with the high content of protein - it's pretty convenient in that sense.

    6 months almost done...

During the the 6 mos. it does seem as though you won't be approved - but once your last appointment is over with it seems like everything happens over night after that. Prayer really is a positive tool. I was approved approx. a week after 6th appointment and the next day my surgery was scheduled for the 28th. I'm on the pre-op diet! Everything will work out like its supposed to. I can so relate to where you are - I have been struggling with my weight in and out of doctors' offices for years as well as the 6 months of appointments just to get approved. Good luck!

    5 Confessions (Join In)

I'm only in the pre op stage and have confessions. I'm TERRIFIED. I want to be healthy for me, but I wish I wouldn't have let myself get this far out of control. Not being able to have the food I want when I want it has left a void I'm not sure can ever be filled. I wish that I was (bigger) than the pressure to be thin.

    Please help

I am having the same second guesses as you are! Scared something will happen in surgery, scared something will happen after surgery, scared ill never be able to eat what I enjoy again, the list goes on. I am in the pre op diet stage - my 6th day today. This stage has not been easy. I've also dieted, lost over 100 lbs - gained it all back and then some. I have numerous co-morbidities - and honestly, not to discourage - I threat to call it off every day, but then I think to myself - where will I be in a year if I stay on this path that I'm on? If I don't get the surgery, a year from now, I'll probably be wishing I would have and my condition will be FAR worse along than what it already is. I don't have children. I'm 21, BMI 43-45. Starting weight: 326. Today: 301 - and ironically enough even though I am doing just a liquid protein diet (no actual food) 2-4 protein shakes a day, water and/or crystal/wylers light, three bites of sugar free jello total, and sugar free Popsicles and I CANNOT break the 300 marker. My surgery is scheduled for Feb. 28th. Ultimately, this is a personal decision, but as I've read on here and from my own personal experience - we ALL have doubts before the surgery. You just need to determine whether the benefits outweigh the risk worth taking and always remember that prayer is a powerful tool. Hope I helped! Good luck!

    On the fence

February 28th, I'm fairly new to this forum. Sorry for two replies. But, believe me being in the pre-op stage - this is by no means taking the easy way out. I also, have multiple co-morbidities and every time I diet and am successful, I gain it back and then some. The social stigma is that overweight people are lazy, not always the case. Ultimately to have the surgery is a mental and physical journey that is tryingly hard at times. I can't tell you how many times during the day I want to back out. Ultimately, it is a personal decision. Think of a year from now? Where will you be? In my case - if I stay on this path that I'm on - I don't even want to think about it. Hope I helped! Good luck!

    Freaking out

I'm 21 years old. I was approved for my surgery about 3 weeks ago. My date is February 28. I started the pre-op diet 4 days ago (it's been the hardest battle mentally to fight wanting to eat EVER.) Two weeks before the pre-op diet I started drinking just water. I find if I use too much Crystal Light, the scale stops moving. My savior has been sugar free Popsicles. But, since last June, I was fighting and doing all the necessary steps to get the surgery. Now I'm having second thoughts. I have not cheated on the pre-op diet for fear that something can go wrong in surgery and I must say that thought has helped me a lot. I am on a strict protein liquid diet - no meals(need not mention the cravings for the oddest things like Tuna, and salad with olive oil and vinegar.) Also, I suffer from Anxiety, which has gotten increasingly worse by the day. I'm new to this forum. Any suggestions, inspiration, friends, tips are welcome. My starting weight before cutting out all liquids but water was 326. Today I weighed in at 302. This keeps me motivated, but noticed the scale had bounced backwards just a little this morning. I haven't been able to break 300 in 3+ years. Any comments are greatly appreciated. My family supports me, immensely which I thank God for because without that reinforcement - I don't know if I would be as far as I am today, but I have not told my job the reason for taking time off or any of my friends. I also have predisposing co-morbidities such as elevated lipids, HTN, and PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome). Every MD that I have spoke with has encouraged me to do it. I'm still TERRIFIED.

    Freaking out

Thanks so much! Good luck with the surgery! Praying all goes well! Believe me - sticking to this pre-op diet has been the HARDEST thing ever. Every day, I plot to call & cancel.
