Sleeve surgery with broken ankle. Seeking advice
BrandNewMe17 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello All. I'm in month 1 of my supervised diet that my insurance requires. According to the Surgeon, I should expect to have surgery around December. The "issue" is, I broke my ankle last November and am still walking with a crutch because of the way the surgeon "repaired" the break. Now I am scheduled for a 2nd surgery with a new Doctor to correctly repair my ankle. This surgery is set for November 13th. I chose to wait until November because that's when my FMLA Coverage starts over since I used all my available coverage during the first surgery. Here's where I need advise; would you suggest having the ankle surgery first, or the sleeve? I know with the ankle surgery I won't be able to put any weight on my ankle for about 1 1/2 -2 months. Any and all advice is appreciated -
Sleeve surgery with broken ankle. Seeking advice

Thanks beautysleeve559. Much appreciated. I'm so ready to be sleeved and it feels like I've been waiting forever. I was thinking the sleeve first because in my mind, a lighter me would be helpful with healing my ankle. But I didn't know about the walking after surgery. Guess I'll have to see what they suggest. Good luck to you too! -
Has anyone NOT received any follow up care in the U.S after surgery? Is following the MX doctors' post op instructions enough? I'm trying to schedule in early June and my primary doc is just not on board whenever I discuss WLS with her. I've discussed this with her over my last 2 annual checkups, and the conversations always go back to her telling me that people sometimes gain the weight back, and wanting to refer me to a nutritionist, or suggesting Weight Watchers. Been there, done that. Now I'm afraid that if I have the surgery and return home, I'm on my own, and this is my reason for not scheduling yet. I have struggled for so long with the ups and down of my weight / weight issues, and was once so excited to get this done. Now I feel like I'm back at square one, because I'm feeling like I won't have any support once I get back home and that scares me.

I have Cigna too and they told me 6 months. I'm tired of all the red tape and considering self pay.

If you don't mind, can I ask who was your doctor and how much they charge? -
Does anyone here know if a passport is absolutely required since the flight will be local? Has anyone went to MX without a passport? If so, did you have any issues?

@ Kristina J...I'm looking to go the latter part of May or 1st week of June.

The coordinator also told me that the BC and ID SHOULD be fine. I would just hate to risk it and get stuck with a " by the book" Agent. I may look into the passcard since I have some time before I leave. That would be one less worry. Thanks guys

Wow. That's great nurseghana! Congrats. Would you say your experience there was nice? -
I too have Cigna and they told me that they require a 6 month supervised weight program before they will approve.

I'm in the south burbs, Richton Park. I'm considering having surgery in Mexico as self pay. I have Cigna insurance and they're requiring a 6 month supervised weight program before they will pay. Has anyone had there surgery in MX? -
Does anyone have Cigna insurance? If so, can you advise on how your approval process went? I'm being told that they require a 6 month weight loss program before they will pay for the surgery. BTW, I'm in IL. Thanks in advance

My Life 90 days Post-op

Wow. Your story is so inspirational. Your 2nd paragraph above describes me perfectly, as I'm going through the initial process of seminars and Dr. consultations. I cannot wait to "live my life" again, as I feel I'm currently just existing and not living. I personally thank you for your candor. I'm sure others have been there too. Keep up the good work and best of luck to you! -
Hello all. I'm new to the group. I stumbled across this site via a google search and knew this is just what I needed. I've thought about WLS for the past couple years but always let others talk me out of it (people who have no weight issues and certainly couldn't understand what I go through). Well I'm tired of being tired and tired of being unhappy and feeling like I have no control over my life. I'm scheduled for my 1st seminar this Saturday and hope all goes well because I am super excited to get back to me. I live in the Chicago, IL area and have Cigna insurance. So if anyone out there has any tips, suggestions, etc. I can sure use it. I have read so many encouraging remarks and stories on this site and I know this is where I need to be. Looking forward to future posts
