Aetna PPO (Lockheed total fitness)
Tuono_John replied to miss meliss's topic in Insurance & Financing
My wife and I got approved through Aetna PPO. The surgery center that I went through did a 3 Month Multi disciplinary diet. 2 weeks after I finished the diet and it was submitted we were approved. 5 days after approval we were in surgery. That was 10 months ago. I have lost 84 lbs and my wife has lost 67 lbs. John -
I would call your Dr. That is definately unusual. It sounds like your too tight, but you should be wide open. Are you burping or having gas? Do you Start the day with Warm liquids (coffee/tea)? If not try that, it helps open things up. Definitely call your Dr. John

My wife has trouble with Chicken. She was banded the same day as me. I don't normally have trouble with Chicken. I work at a surgery center that does lap bands, and I hear of a lot of people that have trouble with chicken. John

Yes, My wife and I were banded the same day. She has not lost near as much weight as I have, but then she does not exercise as much or is not as strict on her diet. John

Romaine Lettuce of all things. I seem to get stuck everytime I eat romaine lettuce. John

I work for a Surgery Center that does the lap bands, and I see many patients. This is something that is defintely unusual. The soreness could be from the tube that they inserted down your throat during surgery so that you can breath. I would call you Dr and tell him. John

My surgery is canceled- I'm so so :(
Tuono_John replied to Whatnow24's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so sorry. I know what the disappointment is like. I work at a surgery center that does lap bands. If you PM me I can give you the information on 3 different Medical financing companies that have better rates than a card. If there is anything that I can do to help, let me know. John -

4 days till Surgery - Can I really do this?
Tuono_John replied to Firebolt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not to scare you, but if you get through the Bowel Prep, the rest of it is a "Piece of Cake". For my wife and I that was the worst. Good luck. Have fun. You'll be in our prayers. John -
4 days till Surgery - Can I really do this?
Tuono_John replied to Firebolt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As I tell all my patients, it up to each individual. I was riding a stationary bike in our living room that afternoon, with in 6-8 hours after surgery. We had surgery on Tuesday and went back to work on Wednesday(the next day). When you hear about people getting "Stuck" it is nothing like you would imagine. Everybody has a diffierent food that they have trouble with. Mine is romaine lettuce. I don't have trouble with anyother kind of lettuce, just romaine. My wife has trouble with chicken. When you get "Stuck" it is a wierd feeling that lasts from 5 minutes to 1 hour. The weirdest thing is when you feel it go through the band into the lower part of your stomach. When you get "Stuck" sometimes if you get up and walk around it helps. I've never heard of anyone going to the ER. The worst case scenario is your doctor has to take the Salene out of your band until it goes through into the bottom of your stomach. Just think about how good life is going to be, not what you are afraid of. John -
BCBS FEP: Psychological evaluation prior to approval?
Tuono_John replied to Linda Hamsing Rosen's topic in Insurance & Financing
I work for a surgery center that does just lap bands. The psyche study is a standard part of the possible approval process. The will probably ask for a Nutritional consultation. These are just standard parts of the process. If you want to PM me, I can fill you in more. John -
I work for a surgery center that just does the Lap Band. The Psyche exam is normal. If the doctor can show that you are "Depressed" becasue of your being overweight it makes it easier to get you insurance to cover the cost. You may not realize it, I know I didn't but now that I've lost 145 lbs I am so much happier. You probably don't realize the effect that being over weight has on you. John

I've been exactly where you are. Just think about how much better that you're going to feel. Think about all the new clothes you're going to be able to buy. Think about how much better people are going to look at you professionally. Think about all the people that are going to think that you got a lot smarter becasue you lost weight. Have fun with it. Don't worry about it. Both my wife and I had the lap band the same day, it besides marrying her, it is the best thing that we've done together. John -
Welcome to life with the Lap Band. You'll be able to eat chicken. It just can't be dry, and you have to chew real well, and when you're done chewing, chew some more. My bad food is romaine lettuce. Every time I eat romaine lettuce I get "Stuck". Everybody is different. Don't think about what you can't have, but how much better you are going to feel, and how much better your going to look. John

She had been warned by another plastic sergeon that she had a Heart problem and that it was not safe to have surgery. He did not do the surgery. She went to a second plastic sergeon who did not get medical clearance from a doctor about her heart. She just went for it. Maybe doctors know something after all. John

How Many Have Lost 100lbs In 6 Months???
Tuono_John replied to princesst's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've only lost 82 lbs in 9 months. I am within 20 lbs of my goal weight so that is why my weight loss has slowed down. I lost 65 lbs in 3 months on Lindora before I had surgery. I've lost another 82 lbs since surgery. I've lost a total of 147 lbs since September 18, 2006. John -
I Don't Know If I Can Do This
Tuono_John replied to nessa3678's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work in a surgery center that does the Lap Band, and I get this all the time. The first month your band is completly open, so you really don't have any restriction. Try drinking lots of water. Do extra protein shakes if you need to. Protein will be better for you than extra carbs. It gets easier every day. Take it one hour at a time. John -
Are you getting enough protein? I like the pre-made EAS protein shakes when I travel. John

Weighloss at a screeching HALT!
Tuono_John replied to finallythin@34's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Are you drinking enough Water? That will make a big difference. John -
I work for a surgery center that does just the lap band so here is our answers. Official Answer: Yes you can have chicken Nuggets if you chew them well. Baked are better than fried. I like the Sam's Club or costco ones the best. Unofficial Answer: You can have McDonalds Chicken McNuggets but don't tell any one. When I've been caught out on the road and needed some Protein I have eaten chicken McNuggets. The sauce is the bad thing for you. The "Fried" Chicken McNuggets are not great for you, but it beats lots of carbs. John
