Any advice for someone in an early stall - 3 weeks post-op? I'm still in the full liquids phase for another 3 weeks, so I can't much other than protein. I've been averaging around 40 gm of protein a day.

I haven't had a drink post op, but when I asked my doctor he said to try it at home first. That way if you have a bad reaction it won't ruin your event. ie spending the evening throwing up or something else not fun

What about a stall the 2nd week after surgery? I've been working to get my protein requirements, not always hitting them. Might have been a bit low on fluids earlier in the week, but I've fixed that now. And I've been at the same weight for 5 days now!

I've tried the orange, and it tastes ok, but smells weird, if that makes sense. I think the best way to drink it is with a straw, so you don't inhale it as you're taking a sip. I agree that mixing in some low-cal gatorade would probably help it.

TSA agent questioned my ID
Jen.D replied to AliveAgain's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
As annoying as the DMV is, I think I might get a new photo, just so this doesn't become a problem. And so I don't have to look at that fat photo every time I show ID. -
This hasn't happened to me (yet) as I'm still pre-op, but I'll tell you what my kids coaches tell them. You need to hydrate BEFORE you work out. So try to get in as much water as you can before the class & maybe you won't be quite as thirsty afterwards.

Protonix (Pantoprazole) Pre-Op - Will I be Able to Take it Afterward?
Jen.D replied to Khloé's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If he wants it smaller you could easily cut it in half. The nurse at my pre-op class last night said nothing bigger than an aspirin. I think I've found replacements for all my vitamins except fish oil. Still trying to track down something that's not straight cod liver oil. -
Gallbladder problems after Sleeve
Jen.D replied to shakur154's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are meds that can help prevent gallstones. Ask your doc to give you some! -
So that is how jeans are supposed to fit! *pic*
Jen.D replied to smbergie200's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Just curious, how was the tummy tuck recovery compared to the sleeve? I'm hoping my skin will bounce back, but I'm 42 and have had 2 kids, so it probably won't. -
PRE-OP Diet: TODAY I MESSED UP, BIG HUGE MEGA TIME :-(
Jen.D replied to PatliPriya's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it bad, that I'm planning to cheat? My surgery is just a few days after Easter, and I don't want to let everyone know about. So, my plan is to eat a lot of salad, and then nibble at the rest. My main things to avoid are foods that are high in fat, high in carbs, and all meats. -
I remember all the legal trouble regarding Terry, but I had no idea that her coma came from dieting! Just remember to get your vitamin levels checked regularly and take your supplements.

Lot's of good advice has already been given. I'd like to add one more. While marriage counseling would be great, it sounds like you also need financial counseling. My husband and I went through Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University several years back and it helped us to pay off all of our debt except our house (which will be paid off in 3 more years). It has certainly made our marriage stronger to be in agreement about money, and to not have lots of debt payments to make each month. April 4th for me! After a long time waiting, it feels like it's coming up very fast! -
Selfish and Mad!
Jen.D replied to ChristenOnAmission's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My only question regarding ya'll recuperating together is how old are your kids? Do any of them still need to be picked up? That's the one downside I see to you both being out of commission. -
Home from the hospital and trying to figure it all out...
Jen.D replied to Hopeful in Rochester's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I must say that I am surprised at the variations in how long people are kept in the hospital after this procedure. My doctor told me to plan on 2 nights in the hospital after having the surgery. I would imagine that the first 2 days are probably the worst. Perhaps it depends on if you are self-paying and trying to cut down on costs? I do agree with Katie that it sounds too soon to be having Protein shakes. I've been told that the first week should be only clear liquids. That rules out all forms of milk, but perhaps the unjury chicken Soup or unflavored added to green tea might work? Good luck! I hope to join you soon. (Still waiting for insurance approval). -
I'm still waiting! It will be 10 business days today. They did say it could take up to 15, but this is driving me crazy!

6weeks out im down 42 pounds scare to try on clothes
Jen.D replied to ebonisekim's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was having the same thoughts about how your would probably go through sizes quickly and why waste a lot of money on clothes you won't wear very long. Kind of like when my kids were going through growth spurts, only this is a losing spurt! Thankfully the weather will be warmer soon, so shorts & tee shirts are pretty inexpensive. -
I here you Cherrytree! I am 5'3' and 215, and sometimes I ask myself if I am big enough to have this surgery. Then I remind myself how different life will when I'm 80-100 pounds lighter. I haven't told anyone except my husband and kids. I feel like I should tell my family (parents, siblings, in-laws) because they're pretty supportive and we have a good relationship, but I'm worried that they will tell me not to have it done. So, I'm waiting until I have an actual surgery date booked to spring it on them.

I'm wondering the same thing. I've had Mirena for over 10 years now (I'm on my 3rd one) and my kids are 13 & 16. I really don't want to get pregnant, but I've heard several people say that they did get pregnant with an IUD; though I'm not sure which one exactly. Apparently you do pump out more estrogen as you lose weight, so you're more fertile. I never had an unplanned pregnancy, but also never had much trouble getting pregnant. I can't decide if I should push my hubby to get snipped, or what.

That's a good tip! I have a popsicle mold, and I like the idea of making them myself. And I know I'll have to share them with my son.

I've never tried juicing, but I think I'd like to. Can anyone suggest a good book of juicing recipes?

9 1/2 months out and Gall Bladder surgery :(
Jen.D replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do the surgeons check (ultrasound) your gall bladder before surgery? So they can remove it if it's already having problems? I'm thinking I should ask for this if my doctor doesn't already do it. And I'm definitely asking for the anti-gall stones meds!! -
Some people on this site recommend Biotin to help with the hair loss. It's with the Vitamins. I've started taking it now, pre-op in the hope that it will minimize the hair loss. (I already lose enough hair with my hypothyroidism). You can do this!

Well I did call and they don't have an answer yet. My paperwork was submitted on the 25th, not the 21st as I'd thought. But they did put down a tentative surgery date of April 4th, which would be perfect.
