Settie, I am now on postop day11. I am just starting to get some energy back. The first week I slept for 6 hours and was awake for 6 hours, rinse and repeat. Now this week I am slowly increasing the amount of time I am awake. I must tell u that I did have a set back at the 7 day mark. Shhhhh, dont tell anyone...I drove myself to my postop visit. 45 minute drive one way in my stick shift Mini Cooper. Yeah that didnt end well, I was in so much discomfort by the time I got home I was in tears. I havent left the house since. So yesterday I was up about 12 hours and I slept about 10 hours. Give yourself a break and a chance to recoup.

They caught it quick and it is manageable and not a game changer since it was caught quickly. You will be over this before too long and on your way.

Blood pressure question

You need to see your regular doctor immediately to reduce your BP meds. Yes it can happen that fast and with just a little weight loss. Congrats! -

You have to remember that your stomach was just cut in half, the nerve endings were also cut so you may not be experiencing much feeling but that doesnt mean things arent happening. Just take it easy and follow the rules no matter how normal you feel. Congrats! -
I wore loose cotton yoga shorts, no undies.

Omg, that is a wake up call isnt it? I am so happy that you are choosing to live! I am pulling for you, I am sure you will do great.

Btw, I am full liquids the first 4 weeks, then move to softs for next 4 weeks.
-
I also am eating good soups, soy pudding and soy and coconut yogurt.

I am allergic to whey so I use vegan protein powders. The two I like is Vega-Sport and Sun Warrior-Warrior Blend. My favorite is the last one btw. Sun Warrior also makes a sproated barley powder that gives awesome extended carbs. I mix everything with the sugar free almond milk and I am doing good getting between 600 and 800 calories a day. I am 10 days postop.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2159155/Obese-woman-suffocates-food-gastric-bypass-surgery-meant-couldn-t-fit-stomach.html Holy crap, I just read this from last year. A woman had gastric bypass and was still eating too much and kq -
This sets u up for an increased risk of infection. I would be upfront with the surgeon so u can weigh the increased risk.

I am drinking protein shakes, chocolate soy pudding, yogurt, and several different kinds of soups. I was having a severe salt craving tonight so I made a cup of an awesome smooth potato leek soup and added some extra salt to satify the craving very good. But I must say yogurt is my go to food behind the protein shakes.

Thursday staples removed
taurabird replied to taurabird's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Doctor preference as to whether they use staples, stitches or glue. No real difference. -
Staples were removed yesterday but one of them popped open tonight and started bleeding a little. I also have really sensitive skin and I am really red and itchy around the big incision that the surgeon used to remove the stomach. They said that sometimes it is the metal introducer that can cause the inflammation. So now I am fighting with this damn itching around the incision.

Itching is doing better today. I got liquid benedryl from the pharmacy yesterday and that has helped a lot. I decided to just deal with being a little sleepy from the benedryl so I can get this itching under control for the next few days. the incisions are still a little red but not infected. -

Also he does something really special to keep the nausea down, it is something worn on your wrist called Reletex, kinda looks like a watch. Once you are out of surgery they turn it on and it sends little electrical signals through your wrist that counteracts the nausea signals to the brain and boy does it work. I used it for the first 2 days solid and then off and on for the first week. It can be turned off and on and they give you a little black tube of gel that goes on as a thin layer between your skin and the wrist strap so it works properly. It was a lifesaver at home. -

U will only be given ice chips until the next morning when they do the leak test around 7am. After that you will be free to have clear liquids. Then around noonish they pull the JP drain and as long as you are tolerating the fluids you will be sent home that afternoon. I think I left around 4pm. -

Elaine, so happy to meet someone on here that is local! Dr Jawad is great, not much in the personality dept but he was awesome after surgery and I could tell he really does care. The NG tube is to decompress the stomach for the first several hours after surgery ansnto make sure that you are not bleeding inside the stomach. They took it out about 5 hours after I got to my room and it really wasnt bad at all ( no pain ). -
Who says our time can not still revolve around family time that happens to involve food? After the initial year or so I plan to experiment with what it means to be a normal weight; watch what I eat, try to eat healthy things instead of crap and exercise regularly.

Yep. I think that is the only real thing I can expect to find on the other side.....me (whoever the hell that is, lol)

I relate to everything that u are saying, the self medicating with food and other things. I am often bored, with me, with life even....though my life is good, happy and complete. It just always seems that there is something missing and that doesnt change in my experience with the weight loss I have had in the past. The thing that changed every time i lost weight was my ability to move around in the world and to experience it more easily and comfortably in a thinner body than in a fat one. So I have gone into this chapter of my life expecting only one thing to change.....the amount of work it takes me to get around and to experience life will be less than it was.

Also is used by some surgeons to check directly for leaks by having person drink something blue dyed and then watch the drain over next few hours to make sure the blue dye is not leaking out of the stomach and into the drain.
