What about protein powder to Greek yogurt? Or the peanut butter powder to add to foods. Hope all goes well.

This is more of a weight related question
Newme48 replied to NewAshes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could be blood pressure. Do you have a machine. They sell them in pharmacies. Good to have so you can track it and write the numbers down to show your PCP. Hope all is well -
Congratulations!!

ROFL!!!!

Keep it clean and dry. Let your surgeon know especially if you have redness, pain, swelling or an odor at the wound. I am 2 months out and they are just about healed. Protein is especially important in the healing process. Good luck!

Small food scale makes things convenient when you get to soft stage too! I agree don't overbuy! I have a lot of broths and soups! I absolutely love sf Popsicles in the tropical flavors. I also recommend my fitness pal app. Practice entering your intake/water and exercise! It is amazingly easy. Most nuts want you to keep track of your diet through the liquid/ puréed and soft stages. MFP app will do that for you and you can print out a nice report just before your nut appt to turn in. I love this app. Plus you can friend a lot of the same people on this website and compare your diaries and get new ideas for foods to try! It is another source for encouragement and advice! Good luck!

How do you deal with sabotage and negativity from others?
Newme48 replied to DecoGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree! Get another doctor pronto. Some are so narrow minded in their beliefs that they refuse to accept anyone's opinions or research. The national institutes of health (NIH) has done research and actually frowns on the lap band because so many people are unsuccessful. The article actually recommended the sleeve or RNY over the band. I don't have access to the report but when I find it again I will post it or you can google it. With all the healthcare changes happening today, providers are increasingly evaluated on satisfaction of their patients. You should definitely let someone know about how you were treated. That was completely uncalled for! -
Surgery date! but it is 2 months away.
Newme48 replied to taurabird's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on your surgery date. I would make the most of the time you have by getting used to no drinks with your meals. Even 30-45 minutes before and after meals. Shop around for full liquid items, buy a food scale. Get your protein shakes or powders stocked. Strength train to build up more muscle, etc. this will help make things easier after your surgery. The no drinking with meals was especially hardest for me. Good luck to you it will go fast!! -
Congratulations!! Beautiful baby girl!

They offer this at a gym I belong to. I think I will give it a try! Thanks!!

Ulcers will probably be a stop sign. I had three ulcers when they did my endoscopy. I was taking a lot of prescription strength ibuprophen and they feel that was a cause. They will probably put you on a PPI to reduce the acid in your stomach and this should help the ulcers heal in time. Unfortunately this also means they will want to do another EGD to see that the ulcers have healed. Follow their instructions! The biopsy might also have been for a bacteria that is common in the stomach and can cause ulcers if unchecked. They usually biopsy every patient that has an EGD. It is that common, but easily treatable. You want healthy stomach tissue especially where the ulcers could be in the way of where they need to staple to do the sleeve. Don't worry ! Just follow your instructions and you should be fine!

Your surgeon should communicate with your PCP on recommendations regarding your liver. I would ask your surgeon for advice as to how to help your liver shrink. Your preop diet will also help shrink it. If it is in the way during your surgery it makes it that much harder for the surgeon. There is a chance that your surgeon may wait till your liver problem is resolved that is why I would make sure he or she is kept in the know about your PCP's concerns. Be patient and follow both docs suggestions. It will keep you on track. I am not sure what is causing your liver to be swollen. It is a big factor when having any type of surgery. If your liver enzymes are abnormal they usually try to correct them before surgery. I would ask if it would help to go on a liquid diet for a certain period of time to see if that helps reduce the swollen liver and they will know by doing another ultrasound. Good luck!

What are february sleevers eating?
Newme48 replied to lwilliams65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like this recipe my nut gave me: 1 cup part skim ricotta add grated lemon peel, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 Splenda packet. Mix it up and separate into 2 portions. I like this as a dessert. Good protein. I do like the eggface site. She has awesome recipes and she also recommends the SF Torani syrups which I hope to try soon. Maybe you could use the syrups with plain Greek yogurt to make it more appealing. -
Tanning will affect your scars. I was always told to put sunblock on scars for at least a year to protect them so they heal. What about vitamin e? Put it on the incisions to promote healing. I would at least try to cover the incision sites during your tanning sessions.

I bet that you are going to be an awesome resource for future sleevers on here! Good luck to you!

Laura you are awesome! You guys had me rolling on the "suing" post! I enjoy reading your advice and comments on here!

You are only one week out. This is a normal feeling for some in my opinion. I hope you feel better soon! It takes time to heal and I hope you feel differently once you are a month or two out! I was scared after my surgery, wondering what did I do. Worried about the what ifs. I think we have more of a risk for depression too( not that I am saying you are depressed) but we cannot rely on our old crutches in food that (I know for me) I went to when I was upset. Or we miss eating the holiday food and enjoying food in general. The further out I get, the better I feel! I also recently came across an article from the university of Pittsburgh about weight loss surgery patients and how exercise helps prevent depression. Fantastic article. Believe me I am not trying to put a label on how you feel. I only want to encourage you to trust in all the research you have done and continue with the support on here! I will keep you in my prayers. You set forth a plan and followed through with it, go a little further and re-evaluate how you feel again! For me, this is the best decision I have ever made when it comes to my health!! And my happiness!! Good luck to you!

I agree to all of those situations!! Mine was recently putting on socks. It is so much easier now! Today I was able to pull my jeans off without unbuttoning them!! I laughed so hard I couldn't believe it because I was so used to having to squeeze them on and off!!

Newme48 replied to Dana Tumblin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel. My son is 12 and most pics I have while he is growing up do not have me in them. I kept myself out and that was a big mistake I will always regret. I do look forward to being in all of them from now on! We are beautiful NO matter what size we wear! Yes I do look forward to smaller sizes and better looking in pics too! Good luck on your journey!! -
Present!! I live in Windber which is near Johnstown or 1.5 hours east of Pittsburgh !

How long did you research before you booked surgery
Newme48 replied to JosieMac's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I work in an operating room and was fascinated with the sleeve procedure. After watching so many people have the surgery, I talked to the surgeon I work with and then started my journey. It took me 1 year to get ready when I could have had it 6 months ago. Again, this site has been a Godsend! -
P.S. for full liquids I would have any cream soup without any chunks in it. Chicken or beef broth. Sugar free puddings and jellos. Greek yogurt is good for protein. Protein shakes!! lol
