Inability to get anything down and vision problems
Newme48 replied to SK71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sugar free Popsicles? Slow and easy I would have at least 1 Popsicle an hour. They have good ones at Walmart that are tropical flavored. I am upset that anesthesia would be so careless, YES careless with the tape. They should be picking up the tab on anything eye related. I work in an operating room and that is purely unacceptable. Please contact you surgeon if he is unable to take the Popsicles he will surely need an IV to rehydrate. Keep us updated and good luck to you! -
Absolutely! Just follow your Nuts plans. It does get easier. Protein shakes!! As your diet progresses, the protein will satisfy your new stomach. I had strong hunger for about 1-2 weeks and it subsided, calmed down as my diet advanced. Be patient. Good luck to you!

Not going to happen....
Newme48 replied to sleeveb430's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure it is approved. Then set your date. While you are waiting, practice not drinking with your meals especially 30 mins before and after. Make sure you have your foods stocked for post op. pamper yourself. You did all the work and research, please don't let someone's mistake cancel your desire to become healthier and happier. Good luck to you! -
I just love this site! Congratulations! Keep us updated!

Couple new to the whole WLS. Our details, need advice!
Newme48 replied to TandT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A lot of great advice here and congratulations on joining this website! Your surgeon will be the best advisor as to which procedure he recommends. You both will benefit from either. It is up to you to know what you can accept and really handle. I have a friend who had a RNY and she looks and is doing amazing! You do have the option for conversion after a sleeve but, if you follow your teams advice you may never need to consider further surgery. I am happy with my choice for the sleeve. I listen to my surgeon and my nutritionist. I follow the stages of my diet too. Research, research and get to know your surgeon- how many he/she has done. It is wonderful that you and your spouse are doing this together. You can help each other tremendously. Again, congratulations and good luck to you both! -
Does surgery really make you feel full?
Newme48 replied to NewAshes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best thing you can do for your self and success with your tool is to start practicing NOW not drinking beverages with your meals. You also should stop drinking at least 30 mins before and until 30 mins after your meal. This was hard for me to get used to. It is fine now. One thing that helps is keep some grapes in your freezer. At the end of a meal, eat a few frozen grapes. Not only are they delish but they will freshen your mouth so you desire a beverage less. I agree with people on this thread also- measure your food and invest in a scale. I measure all my food ahead of time whenever I can and I am actually full before I finish 1/3 cup most of the time. I am going to get the most out of this sleeve during the "honeymoon" phase especially. Good luck to you and congratulations!! -
Complications: rule or exception
Newme48 replied to sparker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great advice here! I agree. I also work in an operating room and after helping people have the sleeve done I knew I was ready and I can honestly tell you exception. There are risks with every surgery. Do your research and when you meet your surgeon always go in with questions and take notes. Make the nutritionist your best friend and ALWAYS follow both the surgeon's and the Nuts advice and instructions. They want you to succeed! Good luck to you! -
How much weight have you lost with sleeve?
Newme48 replied to need2bthin!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Including pre-surgery and 10 weeks post op I am happily 63 lbs lighter. Best decision I ever made! -
A year and 2 months ago I decided to stop drinking carbonated beverages and stopped using sugar. I was addicted to sweet tea! Especially at that evil Mickey d's! I switched to crystal light raspberry green tea and that satisfied my longing for sweet tea. I also use trivia or stevia in the raw. That change ALONE caused me to drop 30lbs. I am not kidding. Get the my fitness pal app and log your food intake so you can keep better track. It really helped me and it is so easy now that I have been on it for a while it is like second nature to me. Good luck to you!

Do anyone knowwhat surgery is best for me
Newme48 replied to rtaylorel's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree! Do some more research. The sleeve was the best option for me. Nothing is rerouted. Remember it is a tool and you must be willing to make lifestyle as well as food changes to get the most out of this wonderful tool. Check out what the NIH (National Institutes of Health) have to say about the band versus the sleeve. I can't find the link at this moment but it basically says the risks and complications from the band are not worth it. Good luck to you. -
Mine said the same at my 1 month follow up ! Congrats!

Awesome and inspiring!! This site keeps me going! I am on it everyday for the info, advice and laughter!! You all look FABULOUS!! Congrats!
-
Great advice from Laura. Don't sabotage your sleeve with the wrong foods and textures too soon. Good luck and congrats on your new "tool"!!

Mine is falling out too! I think I might make one of those hair babies people have been posting! You must check them out! They are hilarious! I have started taking Biotin which is supposed to be great for hair and nails although I am not sure of the max dose I can take. I've seen conflicting posts. I'll have to research it more! Good luck!

I wasn't hungry for like 3 weeks after my surgery! I was making treats for coworkers as well as had friends over for dinner. It was easy. I did eventually get my hunger back and I stick to my diet and Nuts instructions and it has been pretty easy so far. The real strong hunger pangs did not last long too. I do remember having them for about 2 weeks. Are you drinking with your meals? Remember not to drink 30 mins before and after. You will basically wash your food down like flushing a toilet! Then hunger will come back! Congratulations!! Good luck to you!
-
Sounds like you are doing great!! Maybe try walking twice a day until you get your energy back and can take in more vitamins and protein. Congratulations!
-
Sounds yummy!! I'll have to pick some up next time I go shopping! Thanks!

What about water aerobics? Or swimming? The pain in my knees is pretty much gone but I still plan on trying to squeeze water aerobics to my exercise regime just to be good to my joints. Good luck!

I don't know what to do...
Newme48 replied to 1stBabeBorn5th's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with MinaT. Start a habit of not drinking with your meals. Try not to drink at least a half hour before and 45 mins after your meals. That was the hardest for me. I wish I had practiced that before surgery. I am better at it now though. Join my fitness pal. There are a lot of us on there. It is a great tool. I log all my meals and water intake and find it easy to keep track and also see other people's meal logs for ideas. Good luck to you!! -
Daughter Seeking Information
Newme48 replied to SleeveDaughter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I recommend attending a local support group for WLS. A good surgeon will have info for that. It is at these meetings that you meet people who have had the surgery or are researching also. You will get a lot of information at these meetings. Meet with the nutritionist too. Good luck! -
As you know, everyone's experience is going to be different. There is going to be some pain. Pain from the gas that is used to inflate your abdomen was the worst for me. It rises to your shoulders. It went away after about a day and a half. The only other pain was at my incisions. Ask for liquid pain meds for at home, like Roxicet. It did wonders for me. Please remember to walk as much as you can after your surgery. I was up walking the halls in the hospital and it truly made a difference. I was able to move the gas out of my system so much quicker. Get a small medicine cup. They will have plenty of them in the hospital. Take them home and for a day or two, use that cup for your water intake. Have a bottle of water by your side and fill it and drink it at least 6-8 times an hour. It really sounds silly but it does work. This was the best decision I ever made and I would go through it all again in a heartbeat! Pain and all. Ask for your pain meds as soon as you feel you need them. If you let the pain become unbearable it will be that much harder to treat. Good luck to you. Congratulations on your decision!
