Thanks for the article. I never knew this. I will never buy their brand, EVER. My son has some of their shirts that were hand me downs from a friend. I think I might burn them. Ha ha.

It does get much much better! Attitude is key! Take any and all suggestions on here! Everyone is awesome and everyone has all kinds of advice! Most importantly talk to your NUT and surgeon. Please go to a WLS support group in your area if possible! This is the best thing I have ever done! I hope you are able to look ahead and realize how your life can benefit from the decision you made! It is hard to change our lifestyle and eating habits. The sleeve is a wonderful TOOL! Use it wisely and you will begin to see the possibilities. I hope and pray you will soon see the positive side of having your surgery. You must have researched this and come to the conclusion that you want to be healthier and live better for yourself and your family. You came this far so do not be discouraged by anything since you are so newly out of surgery. Awesome people on this website! Please keep us updated on your progress! Good luck and good health to you ALWAYS!

Benefits of increased Protein intake
Newme48 replied to Newme48's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry for confusion. Actually my surgeon has been recently talking about the increase in protein. Fortunately I also work in the same operating room with him. He has brought up the subject of the increase in protein. I MAY have misinterpreted the total amount and will double check this with him. I do know he says a significant increase will help boost the weight loss. I already plan on extra water intake because I am worried about kidneys etc. my next appointment is this Wednesday. I plan on leaving that appointment fully informed by my surgeon and NUT. I will repost everything they are recommending as soon as I can. I trust my surgeon he is totally devoted to his patients and really takes his time with everyone. He recently attended a conference for non surgical weight loss and I think he came across research regarding WLS patients. I will definitely find out exactly what he is recommending. I brought this subject on here to see if anyone else has heard of this. Thank you for your responses!! This is the only site I truly love because I know I am not alone and enjoy everyone on here!! -
I believe exercise does make a difference. I also am hearing things about sleeve patients and our basal metabolic rates. I was recently told that if I want to boost my weight loss I need to take in a lot more protein. I think somewhere around 160 a day. I was also told I could check my BMR at every appointment with my surgeon or NUT. It has a lot to do with muscle loss. I just posted a question regarding protein and BMR today. So far I have been averaging 600-700 calories a day. I have lost 70 lbs overall and 60+ of that total is after surgery(2/5/13). I honestly have not had much time to dedicate to exercise because I work 2 jobs. I am planning to change that as soon as possible though. I think my weight loss has been great and I am happy with it but i will investigate any chance I have to safely boost the weight loss even more. Good luck to you!

Newme48 replied to Sassafras's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
My surgery was in February. I am active logger and enjoy scanning diaries for ideas. I am 37doreen on MFP. Thanks!! -
I have not had gallbladder trouble and hope not to. May I ask if you took anything after your sleeve in regards to your gallbladder like Actigol? Did you take it everyday as prescribed? Just curious so I know what to watch out for. Thanks and good luck and speedy recovery to you!

Yes I often feel down. I have been getting a lot of compliments from coworkers on my weight loss and how different I look. I really don't see it. Yes I can notice clothes not fitting and I am able to pull my jeans on and off with out unbuttoning them. But when I look in the mirror I just don't see it. Hoping that changes though. I am determined to lose as much as I can during the first 6 months of my sleeve. I wish you luck in your journey. Keep your chin up and try to be positive with your eye on the goals you set for yourself!! Good luck!

Showing Excess skin on video & denial by insurance
Newme48 replied to brol1k's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What if you talk to your surgeon and they were able to submit reasons such as inflammation from the excess skin and possibility for skin break down from the rubbing. My insurance so far has been approving WLS patients for plastic surgery to remove the excess skin. Good luck and congratulations!! You look awesome! -
Congrats!!

My Bowels - I Have NONE
Newme48 replied to TiASleeves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely stool softeners and not laxatives. Drink plenty of water and I do believe in the chia seeds, I have a lot of friends that use them. I am going to make it a point to start them by the weekend. Someone posted a good suggestion about soaking them first? Because they can dehydrate you if you are not taking in enough fluids. Good luck to you! -
Congratulations! I too weighed in this morning at 223! My highest weight was 290's! I am down over 50 pounds since surgery. So happy I had the sleeve. My surgery was on 2/5. Good luck to you!!
