I think it will be coming to more and more states. Illinois just made it available for medical use but does not plan to have any state approved providers for a year. In Washington state pot is legal, and believe individuals can purchase it. Fiddle, you live there. Could you please conform. DIdn't feel like googling. Sorry. Making it legal I think will help. Look at what prohibition did for organized crime. People are going to use it regardless that has been proven. Legalization might help lower crime and end some gang violence. It would also be a highly taxed commodity which would generate revenue and reduce state and federal deficits. Not that this is a reason to legalize it nationally. I don't think that if it were legal, the number of people would dramatically increase. If t were legalized there would have to be definitive restrictions about use. I wouldn't want to fly on a plane with a pilot who is under the influence nor would I want any medical procedure performed by a doctor who had recently used it. As you said it could be a train wreck, government involvement can muck up things. They are already involved by prosecuting users and with the cartel wars and gang wars associated with drugs and violence. If legalization would allow some of these funds and resources to be used in a more positive way, then I am for it. Maybe I am looking at through rose colored glasses. Good topic and I'm sure will bring some interesting discussions.

I did mine for today. I am not resting this Friday, but will do so on the 10th and 11th of January. I have a final on the 12th and know I will be hitting the books. This is my last graduate class Now I need to follow it up with a first time pass on my PMP exam in March. Sorry I digress, that is my professional goal for 2014.

I even bought myself new shoes to use when walking. I want to have as much fun when I am working out. Makes me think of my kids when they got new shoes for the school year and were so excited.

Stephg, First, welcome to BariaticPal and congratulations on your upcoming surgery. Yes, i have heard of no pre-op diet. If you search pre-op diets you will see a lot. Here is a link. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/389-pre-op-post-op-diets/ You will find on this site, that there is such a variety of pre-op and ost-op diets from doctors. The only consistency is that everyone had weight loss surgery. The most important thing you can do is to follow the instructions provided to you by your doctor and nutritionist as far as when you can eat different foods and begin exercising. Good luck to you and welcome.

ReDbeaN, Good luck to you also and everyone who participates.

One year out.... maintaining... but fearful of gaining
ribearty replied to TP70's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
TP70, I think it is good to "freak out" about gaining weight. It keeps you on your toes and makes you aware of it so you can react sooner to get it back to where you want it. Lynda (a vet) talks about her bounce range and if she is out of that she goes back to basics to get back into it. It is easier to lose 1 to 2 pounds than 10. You have to be realistic about goals and go with what you are comfortable with and not what others think. If you are happy where you are now, then maintain now and then later try to lose more. You can always lose a little more and reevaluate where you are and your comfort level. -
What a wonderful way to start the new year. Nice both you and your husband will be on this journey. Bonus, you will probably meet your 2014 health insurance deductible tomorrow so less costs for the remainder of the year. I wish you and your husband well wishes on your surgery and hope both of you have an painless as possible recovery. Good luck.

What will you be leaving behind in 2013?
ribearty replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Since reading other posts it reminded me of all the cook books, diets, pills, and other fads I tried to lose weight. If I had all the $$$ I spent on them, I would have enough to pay for plastics when I get to the end goal. Oh well, sunk costs, but definitely lesson learned. Also as others left behind my stomach, and that is absolutely staying behind. -

What will you be leaving behind in 2013?
ribearty replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will leave behind one of the two MBAs I earned. I have the real degree which I will keep since I am still paying for it via student loans and the other I didn't plan on getting. Two degrees for one price. It came along for the ride due to not exercising and watching what I ate. It is My Big A*s. Still paying for this one too but the cost is diminishing. Education is so expensive. i also am leaving behind my doubts that I will truly reach my goal this year. I have a new lifestyle and a functioning tool to get me there. Crappy eating habits are becoming a distant memory as new ones replace them. -
Hit my goal... feeling slightly underwhelmed ...
ribearty replied to Indigo1991's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Indigo, Congratulations on reaching goal. Like you said now the work is to maintain it. I know when I reach goal l will be happy, but guarded because it is only the beginning and there will be work to stay in that range. I think to myself what will happen when I get there, but know it will be more of the same lifestyle. No one walking down the street will rush up and say "you're at goal". However, I will know it and the knowledge will add a smile to my face, making others wonder what I am up to , and give me more confidence in other areas of my life. -
Congrats Mitz and Happy New Year. I don't know if could handle a scale that talked to me. I have a love hate relationship with the scale, or maybe passive aggressive. It can be my friend and my worst enemy in the same week. Maybe weighing once a week would help with the up down trends.

Spent the evening with my daughter-in-law, husband and grand children. We played some games and then read bedtime stories to the kids. Behaved myself food wise and proud of it.

I'll try this one in February. Need time to build up to this one. Crunches this month planks next. Promise.

What my husband says about me & my sleeve
ribearty replied to McButterpants's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
McButtterpants, you are truly fortunate to have such a supportive spouse and he writes well. I really enjoyed reading this thread and how others met their spouse. Comfy_blue, there was a forum started last week for family members. Here is the link to it: http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1016-family-and-friends-new/ -
need2bthin, Congratulations on your accomplishment. Are you at goal now, or do you want to lose more?

Isn't that how it normally works? Everything fine when you see that doctor and then bam. Seems to happen to me with my car. Take it to the shop because it's making a noise, they can't find it, you drive away and it happens a block later. Please call them to see what they say. Hopefully they are open since it's New Year's Eve. Good luck.

I had some bruises from surgery. They were due to where I received shots of medicine to prevent blood clots. When you get these shots, it thins your blood and makes bruising a lot easier to occur. Hopefully, that is why you have them. Although when my four year old granddaughter sleeps with me and not her own bed, she moves a lot and has kicked me.

UnbLivable, If I were in your shoes, I would be in contact with my doctor's office. Possibly you could take a picture and send it to them via email if your doctor is not nearby. I am 9 weeks out. The only incision I had that was still oozing when I left the hospital was where my drain had been. Good luck to you. I hope it stops soon.

taste buds changing?
ribearty replied to Madelyne Bonthron's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me I noticed two changes and one has disappeared and the other seems to have diminished. The first was Water. I used to enjoy plain water but after surgery I could not stand the taste. I had to add koolaid drops or crystal light to be able to drink it. Now I enjoy plain water again. The other was that some things seemed extremely sweet to me but now it does not seem as bad. -
