Eileen, go easy on your self and don't be too hard on yourself. You had major surgery. You will find new outlets instead of food. We all will otherwise we wouldn't have been brave enough to get surgery and would have continued in our old patterns. You will get to eat again but not as much. You are very smart for not getting that crowd and heat. I know I am going to try to go to a baseball game today but if it is too much am leaving. It should be 90 and will be in the sun. This should be 3 hours. I couldn't imagine an all day event that soon after surgery. also, if you need your pain medicine take it. I am still taking it and my banding was a few days before yours. Hope this helps.

My doctor said no pools, baths or hot tubs for four weeks. Jeane thanks for putting a link to the recipes.

this is my first post since surgery. The day of surgery I was in pain. I was complaining at the surgery center and they called my doctor and got permission to give me some morphine there. They kept me because my oxygen level kept dropping. I was there for over 8 hours. On Saturday I was in a lot of pain and wound up calling the doctor's exchange. The pain continued on Saturday and Sunday. I called the doctor's office on Monday and got different pain medicine which helped tremendously. Went back to work on Tuesday, which was too soon but didn't really have much of a choice Walked very slow and sat very slow. Went to work on Wednesday, felt a little sick after eating broth for lunch. I did not get sick, also found it hurst to cough, laugh or hiccup. I am not able to take big sips of water or it bothers me. Saw my doctor that afternoon and he took off the bandages. On Thursday drank some water and right after felt nauseous. Took some medicine for that and it disappeared. It's hard to know if the nauseous is from pain medicine since it can make you nauseous especially on liquids. Yesterday took pain medicine before I left for work and did not take at all at work. Yesterday I was able to add to my diet yogurt, fudgesicle, applesauce and pudding. So for I am down 20 pounds since the prediet. The day after my surgery I was up but it was down the next day. Starting to walk more. It does help with gas pain which is totally gone. My doctor also prescribed liquid Mylanta which does help with this. Today I may try driving a short way. So far I have not done that. there's no way I could have done it earlier this week. Hope everyone is having a good week end.

Bobbets Mom -- I am sorry to hear about your doctor. That is terrible. I would put it in writing and give it to him. It may make it easier than speaking outright to him. This way you have all your thoughts on paper and aren't flustered by his rebuttals. If possible I would see if he would refund the portion you paid for fills if you can't work it out. I would go to lapband.com and enter your zip and see if you can find a different doctor. Some doctors will treat other doctor's patients after reviewing medical records and they are comfortable with the patient's condition and the surgeon's skills. unruhlyhd -- hang in there you can do it. Think of the long term goal versus short term I spoke with someone I work with who was banded in May she said she did not use pain medication once after her surgery. She said she could have gone back to work two days after her surgery. I only have 5 days until my surgery. Can't wait. I went through nerves but I think what helped me was I attended another seminar given by my doctor and also watched the internet site about the lap band they gave me. Between these two it confirmed my decision and I have not worried at all about it or complying. I feel that if I can't make it through the liquid preop and post of how successful can I expect to be with the band. Not listening to my body and doctor is what got me here so I am trying a new attitude because the old one didn't work. Sorry to be so long. Good luck. Look forward to hearing from you post surgery.

crazulay I am also on preop diet day 3. I feel nauseous sometimes and get bursts of hunger. What is your surgery date? I saw someone said they went to the grocery store. I send my dh. Yesterday I did attend a movie theater and stayed on track. I find myself getting headaches some. Has anyone experienced this? Also to those who have been banded? Could you please reply as to what side of your body your port was placed? Thank you.

My doctor does not allow you to smoke for 2 months prior. He says in his seminar that if you smoke you are more likely to have problems with the band. On my way you may want to check out this thread. It is on smoking with the band. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/smoking-lap-band-3137/

I am in my preop diet. Hunger comes and goes. I have been finding things to keep me busy. Went to the movie today and didn't even want p_ _ corn. Got my last preop test out of the way. Now all I have to do is eat liquids and wait until Friday. I am a big St. Louis Cardinals fan and the way they are playing lately makes it very easy for one to lose their appetite. I have been reading and doing some beading as well. Keeps your mind active and hands busy. My doctor's assistant told me the first 48 hours were the worse.

Only 6 days until surgery. I have my moments where I get hungry. I either eat a popsicle, Jello or broth. I go to day for my chest x-ray which is my last preop test. At least next week my new boss is coming into our office and we will be learning a lot of new procedures that will keep me busy and my mind off food. Trying to get 2 1/2 days of work into 4 1/2. Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Good luck to the people having surgery next week earlier in the week. I know Phyl and I have the same date.

I think a cruise in Alaska sounds great. There are only about two months out of the year where it is a good time to go. No hurricanes, no hot weather.

    No restriction after first fill

I am to be banded on 7/20. It seems to me that after you get a fill that you have to go on liquid diet again for a short time? Has this been the case for most? Or does this kick in after you have more Fluid in the band and not on the first couple of fills. Thanks for your replies. :help:

I went yesterday and signed the release. It was quite long and I have never signed a release that lengthy before. When I commented to the doctor's assistant she said it is because it is bariatric surgery and it's a whole different game than other releases. I also received my diet from my doctor. It is amazing how different each person's doctor's preop diet is. I can only do clear liquids with no protein supplements or dairy products. I had my endoscopy and stress test today. All were good. The only thing I have lest for preop testing is my chest x-ray. I can't believe that it is almost here. I also got awesome news that my insurance is covering the surgery and surgery center at 100%. :whoo:

    Non Supportive Family

I have shared this with my family and coworkers. My family has been very supportive. Several of my friends are asking "are you sure this is what you want to do?" Called me crazy and a couple of them have even told me "you're not big enough to have this surgery". I know I was more scared last week wondering if I could deal with the lifestyle changes. I think what put it into focus for me was reattending my surgeon's seminar. He told stories he had heard from other doctor's about patients who did not follow the clear liquid preop diet and then they were opened and the doctor could not do the surgery because their livers were too big. I also watched the internet presentation again and felt at peace with my decision. I went in today to sign all the paper work. Believe me I had never signed such a long surgical release about ten pages. I feel if you can't follow one week of prediet how can you expect to be compliant after the surgery with the band? Barring any preop test complications my surgery will be on Friday, July 20.

    UHC Choice plus-won't cover?

I have UHC through my husband's insurance and my doctor's office sent in my paperwork on 6/18 and UHC approved me on 6/22. I was surprised at how quickly and smoothly the process went. I am now waiting on pretests and have a date of 7/20 set for my band.

Good luck. I'm sure some of it is just the unknown. I know I start on my preop this week and am scared that I won't be able to stick to liquids and will get hungry. I am also worried about liver size as I have had hepatitis in the past which has caused permanent increased size. I'm sure you'll do fine and it will all work out. I know I look forward to hearing from you and the others who will be banded this month. It will be nice to have some support from people who are experiencing the same thing.

I just had the first of my preop tests done yestercday. Finish up on Tuesday. I attended the seminar again yesterday so my husband could get more information about the surgery. Go to the surgeon's office tomorrow to sign papers and get prediet and post surgery information. Start liquid diet tomorrow. Can't believe it will be over in 12 days.
  17. I received approval from my insurance company earlier this week I was out of town but my doctor's office called me. I am set for 7/20. I am so excited but scared at the same time.

    New to the site!!!

I am at a BMI of 35.4. I have been over 200 pounds for over 5 years, I have several years of unsuccessful weight loss attempts. The last was with a doctor. I also have been on Weight Watchers and have 2 person trainers. I do not have diabetes but have been put on medication for it. I am pre diabetes and/or insulin resistant, I have high blood pressure which is managed by medicine, I have had my gall bladder out, I have had back surgery 5 years ago, I now have pain in my lower back, knees and hip. My cholesterol has gone up in the past few years as that I am on medicine. My insurance is with United Health Care. My waist is 40+ inches. I would like to know your thoughts if this is enough comorbid obesity related items to get the surgery approved.
