  1. I am a band to sleeve revision. The band works for a lot of people. Bandista and Carolina Girl are examples of successful bandsters. You ultimately have to do what you and your doctor believe is the best procedure for you. I had my band for almost three years before I started having problems. I was a compliant patient and followed my pre and post-op diet to the "T". Things happen sometimes and I was one of the people for whom the band did not work through no fault of my own. I have to say since I have had my sleeve surgery, I have not had one instance of food being stuck and have no heart burn any more which was a constant in my life for more than three years before sleeve surgery in October. Good luck to you in your decision and your weight loss journey.
  2. MacMan, so sorry you experienced this, and very glad you are here to tell your story. It goes to show you can do all your home work and sometimes things happen over which we have no control or through no one's fault.

    Missouri sleevers

Lovinglife there are several people from Missouri. I live in St. Louis County. I was a band to sleeve revision in October 2013. I had my surgery at Des Peres Hospital.

    Where are the 50s ???

I am a band to sleeve revision. I am 3 months out now. I have no regrets and I was 56 1/2 years young when I had my surgery in October. Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery.
  6. I was nervous and excited at the same time. I knew that my past attempts had not worked and if I wanted to be healthy, I had to have the surgery. Right now the surgery is an unknown for you. I'm sure you're worrying about how muc pain is there afterwards. Will I be the one for whom it does not work? I'm scared. This is so extreme. I can lose weight on my own. Only you can decide if surgery is the correct option for you. I have no regrets and am very glad I decided to have the surgery. Good luck.
  7. See what the diagnosis is first. If it is positive, check with your surgeon to see what he thinks. Here is the website for vanco info. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a604038.html Good luck.
  8. If you have c-diff one of the worst things you can do is to take immodium or something to prevent you from having bowel movements. I hope you do not have it. I have had it twice and it is nasty sh**. It can be difficult to get rid of hence the name difficile. Good luck. Flagyl is one antibiotic to treat it. It is one of those pills that dissolves very quickly and tastes pretty bad. You cannot drink any alcohol with it. I forgot and took a sip of communion wine and got sick. I am allergic to flagyl so have to take vancomycin when I get it. Vanco is avaiable in capsule form. The first time I got it, it was only available in oral suspension. Vanco is very expensive prescription. In 2005 the last time I had to take it was $1,600 for a two week supply. If the test comes back negative but the symptoms still persist, ask for a retest. I have had tests say negative and then retest shows positive.
  9. Nancy, the fusion Vitamins have Iron and Calcium in them and do not have to be taken separately. They explain how on their website. They offer a sample pack so you can try them. Any other Vitamin the calcium has to be taken at least two hours after iron. As Misty says, calcium citrate is the type of calcium we absorb the best after surgery. My nutritionist said that the two doses need to be about 12 hours apart because your body cannot absorb more than 500 mg in one setting so if you take more than that in, it is not doing anything for you. Celbrate also offers samples. I take a multi with iron in it and an additional iron pill. I do not take calcium with my surgeon's approval because of a history of kidney stones. This is monitored with labs and if it drops then I will have to go on calcium. Good luck.

    STL sleeve scheduled 9/25

The 6 month diet, 3 month most times is a requirement by the insurance company to pay for surgery. If they're paying the majority of the bill, you have to do what they say.

    Almost at a Goal 7 Months Post-Op!

Curvy, I don't want to sound like a broken record, but you look amazing and fabulous. Fantastic job. I know you'll keep it up.

    Glorious!

Congratulations on your approval. I remember how I felt when I found out I was approved. It had been a unknow date in the future, but upon hearing I had been approved I knew that date was going to be happening within 6 weeks at the most.

    Drank ice water

You may have drank the Water too fast or taken in more than you should at one time. You are not that far out. I was fortunate that I could drink cold, room temperature or warm water. Take small sips.

    Nail polish off before surgery?

I had to take my polish off. Sometimes the pulse ox does not read correctly with polish on. I was told that red polish can cause issues. I didn't want to take a chance of them refusing my surgery so had no polish or acrylic nails on.
  17. I had no problems after surgery I felt great by Tuesday with surgery on Friday. I had so much energy the first week. I saw a lot of other people posting about pain, nausea and having difficult to swallow and almost felt guilty talking about how great I felt.
  18. I am a big fan or Premier ready to drink. They have 30 grams of Protein and are so convenient. You can add torani sugar free syrups to the chocolate or vanilla shake to vary the taste.
  19. I am no longer obese, now overweight.

  20. I had surgery on 10/25 and a second surgery nonsleeve related on 11/4. I started working part time from home on 11/5 through 11/8 and returned full time on 11/11. I wound up getting a cold later that week so the first week was a little rough. I think the second surgery was too much too soon, but everything is good now.

    Gaunt and an Amazon, really!

RJ, I wish I could say I am surprised that your friend did this to you. I have a friend who has been heavy for most of her life and right now she weighs less than me and has made a couple comments to me that surprised me. I have been friends with her for over 20 years and hope that it won't ruin our friendship. Also, I tried to find a picture of a gaunt amazon and couldn't find one. If you can't find it on the internet, then it doesn't exist and can't be true.
  22. ProudGrammy, Congrats on your two year plus post-op. Happy birthday. I too don't look or act my age. I Celebrate every birthday. My philosophy on birthdays is I'd rather be over the hill than under the hill.
  23. I ran out of time before surgery to have my husband take pictures of me before my surgery, so I had the nurse take a few. The one on the right was taken on 10/25 and on the left was 7 weeks and 1 day later on 12/15
  24. Thanks Bella, and you'll be there also in less than two months.
  25. Hi Proudgrammy, Since both topics had replies in them, I merged them into one thread. Here is the url for the remaining thread. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/294146-60-years-young-today-2-yrs-po-goal/ Thanks, Rita
