Probiotics For Constipation?
ribearty replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why are you up so early? I had to fly at 6 fricking am. What's your excuse? I woke up and wasn't able to get back to sleep. I have been dragging all day. Hopefully, I get a better night of sleep tonight. -
Before And After Pictures
ribearty replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
I posted using this and it made an album. My before picture had been on my profile prior to the merger into bariatricpal. I just reuploaded my picture late last week. I would like to be on my profile and not in an album. Thanks. -
I believe one of the reasons most of us wound up having weight loss surgery is because we weren't in control of what we ate, eating the proper portion sizes, and made bad food choices even when we knew it isn't the healthiest choice. We didn't follow the rules and look where we ended up prior to surgery. It takes discipline to follow the pre-op diet and post-op diet. Think of this as the first of many challenges you will be faced with for the rest of your life in making good food choices. Listen to your doctor and nutritionist. If you don't,as many others have said, you will not be as successful after surgery. This is major surgery. If you do not follow the pre-op and post-op diet the results could be fatal. Is it worth risking your life to eat whatever it is you want to eat at this time? When I was in the hospital a tech told me about a patient who wanted to eat something and he was told his body was not ready for it by staff at the hospital. He went out and ate the food before he had healed enough and wound up back at the emergency room and died. You are having this surgery because you want to lose weight and to get healthier. Keep your eyes on the long-term goal and don't give in to short-term goals and distractions preventing you from reaching the finish line. As Laura Ven said about food funerals, "you eat the food and it's gone." After it's gone all you have is extra calories and an empty container. Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Medicalert Bracelet-Yes Or No?
ribearty replied to Noor1969's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wear one. I bought the medic alert charm and had it engraved with four rows of text. I then added the beads myself. I plan on restringing the beads and attaching with lobster claws so I can swap out different bands with it. Here is a picture of the one I made. On the back side it reads: On the back side it reads: Sleeve gastrectomy No blind NGs No NSAIDs List of medication allergies. -
Probiotics For Constipation?
ribearty replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it was seela that said that. I don't have issues with fiber, and smooth move is senna which I take from time to time, but that one can "over correct" the problem somewhat. I still do take it once in a while. Proof, I shouldn't be posting at 4 a.m. in the morning. -
Thoughts On Drinking Through A Straw?
ribearty replied to Seela's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor's office and nutritionist also said no straws. The reasoning behind it is that it can cause you to gulp and take in larger amounts of Fluid. It can also cause you to take in air which can cause you pain. -

ribearty replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to use this... great stuff but tons of cramping. . Wouldn't even think of using it now Gamegirl, Which one caused you cramping; Benefiber or smooth move tea? -
Follow A Sleever From Night Before Surgery All They Way Through Recovery

Probiotics For Constipation?
ribearty replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor's office recommends Benefiber and not laxatives. I thought probiotics were to be used to help keep the good bacteria in you GI system in balance. I have taken them in the past for this reason, but not to help with constipation. I have friends who swear by Smooth Move Tea. I believe it can be found at Wal-Mart. I have not tried it myself but from what they say, it is not the best tasting stuff but it does the job. -
Getting Sick (Cold) Postop...what Do I Need To Know About Vitamins?
ribearty replied to throwaway557's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a cold about 3 weeks out from my surgery. I took Zicam as soon as I felt it coming on, and it helped with the severity and duration. It seems to be most effective for me if I take it within 24 hours of the symptoms first appearing. -
Beginner Questions
ribearty replied to daniellefay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Daniellfay and welcome to Bariatricpal. What type of surgery are you planning to have? If you provide some more information on what fears you have regarding psychological effects of the surgery, many members may be able to help you. A couple of things I can tell you that apply regardless of the type of surgery you are planning to have is you will need to make permanent changes in your lifestyle and eating habits in order to be successful. It is not an automatic guarantee or magic wand that you will lose weight, and keep it off permanently, if you don't make changes. I had a lapband, but had to have it removed. In October I had sleeve surgery performed. -
You over achiever you. lol. I got my 25 in for today.
-
If I were a true over achiever for crunches, I could do both. I will try to add some of the items to my routine since I got rid of the cold. I will work toward a 60 second plank by the end of the month. Calling this Saturday, 12/7, as a rest day since I have a mid-term exam. Rita

Got 1.8 miles in on Sunday. Wonderful weather almost 60 and a nice walk with my granddaughter. By Wednesday a cold front and snow by Friday. Gotta love Midwest weather.
-
I got mine in today. Not too bad today. I am measuring to see inches lost by the end of the month. I may take Saturday off instead of Friday since I have class from 8 to 5:30 plus an hour commute each way. I have my mid-term this day also. Then only two more sessions with my final on January 12.
-
I'll do the regular crunches for now, that is enough of a challenge for me at this stage.
-
I'm in. Looks like it iwill be a good challenge for me.
-
Gamegirl, I am holding you to the last sentence.

Having had a lap band that failed and now having the sleeve I feel I can say something on both surgeries. The band worked for me for a while. I never got to the goal I wanted to be with it, but by lapband standards I was considered a success. I never found the "sweet spot" with the band. In order for me to feel restriction my band was too tight. I disagree with 5.0 about bands not needing to be filled or adjusted. I spent more than three of the six years with heart burn and on prescription medications from my band and vomited more in the 6 years with it than I did in my entire life. I am 56 so that is a lot of living. My lap band failure was not from noncompliance. I followed the pre and post-op diet to the letter so I would not risk my surgery. I had all the Fluid removed from my band in August of this year. Even after it was unfilled, I still continued to experience severe heart burn. The prolapsed position of my band was causing problems with my esophagus and was enough evidence for my insurance company to waive the six month medically supervised diet. I can say since I have had my sleeve surgery I no longer experience heart burn and have not thrown up once. I am much happier with the sleeve. The band did not work for me, but has for a lot of people. This post is not meant to bash the band, but to say that for me it wasn't the right surgery and I now have a new opportunity to succeed with the sleeve. I find it aggravating also to see people post incorrect information on this site or to say "you're wrong" because you say something and it isn't what they do. If nothing else I have seen from being banded and sleeved, is one commanality is that we had weight loss surgery, but that is about where it ends. Different doctors for the same surgery have different preop and postop diets and people start different phases at different times.

My goal is to walk 25 miles, ride 25 miles and get my basement picked up and painted to prepare to lay down the laminate flooring.

Computer games makes a lot of sense with your profile name. I make baskets and also bead jewelry. Sometimes I string beads and also use stitches to make creations. I also enjoy reading. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time to do hobbies. Baskets and beads keep your hands busy and you don't tend to eat a lot when doing either.

I have not met my goal for this month. Between surgery #2 and a cold I have not been as active as I planned. Cold is still hanging around but getting a lot better. Will be walking today outside and hopefully tomorrow if the weather cooperates. I get to resume bike riding on 12/16 so that will help. I also am back in school with a mid-term next Saturday and a final on January 12. After the 1st of the year I will use my company's wellness reimbursement to pay for my gym membership.
