Not a happy, cheary post, be warned

Farmgirl, I am so sorry for your loss. I agree with newat52. You need to take care of yourself right now. You are healing from surgery and the loss of a parent. Those two items are a lot to deal with in addition to worrying about Christmas. The mother in us wants to take care of everyone else first.. This isn't the time. Your family is all grown and will understand. Let them know Christmas will be different this year and tell them that if they are expecting the usual dishes, they will need to come over and prepare it. The world won't end if the presents aren't wrapped and Baked Alaska isn't prepared. This is the first Christmas without your mother so it is going to be even more difficult. As you know, things will get easier down the road, but there will be times when the memories still bring sadness. I hope you have the merriest Christmas possible for you under the circumstances.

    Meal Time

My doctor's office said to have no meal last more than 30 minutes. If it takes longer than that, your body can start processing the food and this could lead to grazing and taking in more calories. They said it should take 15 to 20 minutes to eat 1/2 cup of food and no longer than 30 minutes. This is when you are 6 or more weeks out.
  4. Nancy, I am not sure what title you want to change or add to a title. Please let us know so we can assist you. If you prefer, please send me a private message. Thanks.

    Submitting to UHC

Hello want2bsleeved87, Welcome to BariatricPal. I have UHC and my claim was approved in one week. It was submitted on 9/11, reviewed and approved on 9/18. My doctor's office does not schedule the actual date until they have the letter in writing. They want to make sure the correct surgery and codes are listed on the letter. I swear they sent the letter via pony express since it took 9 days to arrive. The doctor's office called me on 9/27 to schedule surgery. I had my surgery on 10/25 due to work commitments. I have been told it can take up to a month. My employer goes through Optum, and the case manager told me they have 15 business days to respond. Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

    Excited & Nervous

Hi Britt, welcome to BariatricPal. It's perfectly normal to be nervous and excited before surgery. It is an unknown since you have not had surgery, I'm sure you are worried about how much pain you will experience, and might have doubts if it will work for you. I know I had these. I got four hours of sleep the night before my surgery. You will probably get plenty of sleep tomorrow after surgery. Good luck with your surgery, and please let us know how you are doing. You might want to go into your profile and change your surgery type to sleeve. That way you will get topics related to your surgery type. You are currently showing as a lapband patient. If you have any questions on how to change your surgery, please let me know..
  7. You might check this forum. It is dedicated to members who are having sleeve surgery in January. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/998-january-2014-sleevers/ Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Dilaudid was the pain medication I was also given. Morphine is not nearly as effective on me. I asked my doctor if he would prescribe dilaudid and he said, "yes, just remind me closer to your surgery time." I was somewhat worried about what he would think when I requested a specific pain medicine, but he also knew how many surgeries I have had and could justify the request.

    Scar tissue

I had my band in July 2007 and had it removed in October of this year. My band was removed and the sleeve performed in one procedure. The total time for everything was at 2 hours. I did not have a lot of scar tissue from my band. That was my biggest fear going in for surgery, is that they would be unable to perform the sleeve at the same time due to the amount of scar tissue. Unfortunately, there is no way to know in advance how much scar tissue is present until you are in the operating room and the cameras have been placed inside of you. My doctor told me he is able to perform 90% of his band to sleeve revisions in one procedure. Good luck and please keep us posted after your surgery.

    Post op appt today

Congratulations on your loss and moving to the next stage of foods. I remember the first food I had after my surgery, it tasted so good, and was nice to chew. Glad you will have at least one holiday next week when you return to work. The first week back can be a bit tiring.

    Am I full? Help!

Some people have problems with eggs in the beginning. I know when I add cheese to my eggs it seems to make them more filling. You will be able to eat more further out. In the beginning, when you try a food if it doesn't agree with you, wait a week or so and try it again. Sometimes your stomach is not ready for it even though your diet sheets say you can have it. You may also have internal swelling from the surgery. You will be able to take in a larger amount soon. Good luck.
  20. Hi Alex, Would it be possible to have a forum topic for each state and then move the threads into the appropriate state? If so, can you provide instructions on how to set up the main forum topic? Also, here is an example when someone was asking about support groups in Illinois. There appear to be several for the Chicago area. Can or should they all be merged? http://www.bariatric...one-in-chicago/ http://www.bariatric...-chicago-burbs/ http://www.bariatric...ago-area-group/ http://www.bariatric...llinous-anyone/ http://www.bariatric...-area-sleevers/ http://www.bariatric...icago-sleevers/ http://www.bariatric...rbs-of-chicago/ http://www.bariatric...0-chicago-subs/ http://www.bariatric...-pretty-please/ http://www.bariatric...nachicago-area/ http://www.bariatric...cago-southland/ Please let me know what you think about this suggestion.
  21. Fluffnomore, I used to live in Southern Illinois and we always felt that Chicago seemed to be the only area that mattered in the state of Illinois. I have now moved to Missouri right across the river. You might check out the sites and find people close to you for support also.
  22. Some of these threads are older and have not had activity in more than a year.
